TV On The Radio recently played outside on Broadway for the Late Show with David Letterman. Unfortunately, it won’t air until Friday night. They played “Dancing Choose” from their new album Dear Science. It’s up on Spin.com and those bastards won’t let us embed the video. So go to spin.com and yell at ‘em for us.

Contrary to rumors started by homeless people, Sammy Hagar didn’t leave Van Halen because of his Cabo Wabo tequila. It turns out that guitarist Eddie Van Halen was being influenced by his then manager (in 04, Irving Azoff?) and by alcohol and drugs. Sammy says that Eddie was threatened by Sammy and his leadership in the band. It’s a shame. The Perv had a chance to see the band back in 2004 and they put on an excellent show WITH Michael Anthony. Screw you Eddie for getting rid of him and bringing in your son Wolfgang Puck. As we all know now, Anthony and Hagar are in a new band with Joe Satriani and Chad Smith (drummer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers) called Chickenfoot. I hope it kicks VH’s ass.

We all know that every year the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame votes in five nominees from their eligible list. While it is a good idea to keep the club exclusive, they’re clearly neglected some of the biggest artists/bands out there. Jeff Miers of The Buffalo News recently wrote an excellent piece on those artists that have been snubbed. Looking at his list, I’m puzzled as to why Depeche Mode, Kiss and Iron Maiden haven’t been inducted. Now, I don’t love Iron Maiden or Kiss but I respect them and their place in rock history. Seriously, what the fuck is going on Jann Wenner (founder of the HOF and Rolling Stone Magazine) and the other music critics. Hell, even rock critic Joel Selvin refused to vote because of the lack of quality candidates. F you Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. You need more relevant people on your “nominating committee”. Each one of you is over the age of 55 and probably wouldn’t even know a good band if it slept with your daughter or even better granddaughter.

The Audio Perv used to listen to Smashing Pumpkins back in the day, you know like when Z100 (NY) used to play alternative and hard rock music. We loved Gish and Siamese Dream, endured Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness, tolerated Adore slightly less (because of how awesome Perfect was), couldn’t listen to you during either of the Machina records and welcomed them back again with Zeitgeist. The Perv even spent hard-earned money working at the mall to see the Pumpkins live THREE times despite the fact that Billy Corgan plays his songs in such an unrecognizable way it makes you regret paying to see them. So when we heard that the band was going out on their 20th anniversary tour, we became a little apprehensive. Is there a chance that they’ll sound more like what they do on TV shows and on the record, or will they proceed to make us wish that we had spent the money in a better way, like on throwing a kickass party or on Horatio Sanz memorabilia on eBay. Go 20th anniversary tourhere for more on their upcoming DVD and Kimmel appearance.

Chris Cornell has always been the cool guy everyone’s loved from the Grunge Era. The guy who survived and kept it going. Sure there’s Pearl Jam but they got old, became political, tried to become relevant again and sorta failed. Cornell ended Soundgarden when they were at its peak, put out a really cool solo album and joined Rage Against The Machine. I mean he joined RATM without Zach and called it Audioslave which was really cool. The Perv had a chance to check out Cornell last summer when he played Starland Ballroom and it was one of the best shows ever. So when news came out that Cornell would be putting out a new solo album, everyone at The Perv became excited. Then we found out that Timbaland would be producing it. We became a little sad. Then we heard today that he cowrote a song for someone on American Idol; we became sadder. Now we find out from MTV that he’s going on tour with Timbaland where he’s going to play only his new album from start to finish and we’re just really annoyed and pissed off. Dammit Cornell! Play Soundgarden, Audioslave, “Billie Jean”, some Temple of the Dog and “Can’t Change Me” and thats it!

UPDATE:Chris Cornell will be playing a fundraiser for Barack Obama at the Edison in downtown LA on October 4th. Hilary Clinton will also be there so expect them to duet on Temple ofthe Dog’s “Hunger Strike”

The Perv isn’t the biggest fan of Kings of Leon. We remember The Bucket and those shows opening for The Strokes but we liked the Kings better when they were in the movie Almost Famous. Regardless, the boys played Sex on Fire last night before their sold out show at Webster Hall. Apparently celebrities love the band too as groupies Drew Barrymore, the dudes from Gossip Girl and Danny Masterson were all there to look hip, I mean enjoy the band. Here’s a better review and videos of them on Letterman and from their show. Enjoy.

Saving Abel, who you may not have heard much of if you live on the coasts, have one of the biggest rock hits of the year with their song “Addicted”. They’re on tour with Buckcherry and Shinedown right now and on Friday will play at the University of Mississippi, site of the first Presidential Debate. The Audio Perv does not like to talk about things that The Perv doesn’t understand like politics, women’s rights, carrier pigeons and why people watch Law and Order. So we’ll just talk about Saving Abel who we.. know .. nothing about. Ok, next story.
