Our Lady Peace at Irving Plaza 7/21 Review (Setlist/Videos) | The Audio Perv

There was a cool eerie feeling at the Fillmore New York Irving Plaza last night. It felt like the late 90s/early 00s again as Our Lady Peace returned to New York City for their first full band show in nearly four years. The band played to a sold out crowd as it ripped through a set of about sixteen songs with a good mix of the tracks for the just released Burn Burn and the classic Our Lady Peace songs we’ve all grown to love. After heavily crowd-sung versions of hits “Clumsy” and “4am”, lead singer Raine Maida declared that specific instance as one of the “ten best moments” in Our Lady Peace’s history. Maida was amazed at how enthusiastic the crowd was at several points especially with fans immediately recognizing hits like “Is Anybody Home?” off of the first guitar chord strummed in the song. He even remarked that the band had gone far too long without playing NYC. Maida was spot on throughout the set and was pleasantly surprising as he did not abandon his infamous falsetto vocals on some of the songs live as he had done on previous tours. The new material was very well received especially tracks “Monkey Brains,” “Paper Moon,” and the first single off of Burn Burn, “All You Did Was Save My Life.” On the latter song, Maida climbed on top of a speaker on the side of the stage and up onto the railing of the second level of Irving Plaza where he proceeded to shake hands with fans, grab a fan’s camera and tape the crowd and start the last chorus before returning to the stage. Guitarist Steve Mazur and bassist Duncan Coutts were solid all night long and played with the same high energy enthusiasm all night long and it was great to see Jeremy Taggert behind the skins rocking out just as hard as he did when The Audio Perv first saw OLP back at Hammerstein Ballroom back in 1998 (wow.. I feel old). The lone complaints about the show is that it didn’t last longer (Hey, we waited four years for OLP to come back to NYC, give us more than 75 minutes!) and that more songs from the highly underrated concept album Spiritual Machines weren’t included. Judging from the crowd’s reaction to the show, however, Raine Maida and Our Lady Peace will be sure to not to disappear from NYC for very long. Check out the setlist and videos below. Did you go to the show? If so, comment and send us your pics!

  1. [...] energy, their effect on you is infinitely more pronounced when you see the band perform them live. Read our review of OLP at Irving Plaza in NYC! Check out Our Lady Peace on tour (dates below the video) and be sure to order the new album here [...]

Great review. Wish I had been there. Thanks!

First song was Monkey Brain I believe. Been to hundreds of shows. Crowd taking over 4AM ranks up there. Cool to know a somewhat obscure tune I thought was personal to me was personal to so many people and they all knew every last word. Very cool…

I was there last night. Our Lady Peace has always been one of my favorite bands. I have seen them perform many times and I have seen Raine doing his solo stuff as well. I don’t think anything compares to the energy that I felt last night. I do wish the show lasted longer. Hopefully they will be back soon!

what song did he climb up the balcony? looking for that video.

He climbed up for “All You Did Was Save My Life.” It’s the second video. I only have it recorded from when he was already up on the railing

  7. James says:

We drove from Pittsburgh to see the show and my god was it worth every single Penny! This was my 5th OLP show and by far the most intense. I couldn’t have asked for better performances from the band and the energy in that room was enough to level the entire Irving Plaza! Keep on rockin’ guys! I’ll see you all in Cleveland!

  8. I’ve seen OLP around 10 times (my first was also at Hammerstein in 98, my last at Hammerstein in 02) and this was hands down the best one. Not only were they amazing, but the energy from the crowd was incredible as well. The good thing about catching them now is that everyone there is a diehard fan. I seriously can’t get over how awesome of a show it was. I wasn’t incredibly pumped before the show since I didn’t like Burn Burn as much as past albums, but then they blew me away with their performance. I heard Raine say on the radio the next day that they should be back in NYC in the fall. I will have tickets the day they go on sale.

I was also pretty excited because i got to meet them afterwards and gave Raine and Duncan a copy of my band’s demo (http://www.facebook.com/conflictinthesky for anyone interested)

This show solidified them as my all-time favorite band. I also think they are the most underrated/under-appreciated band.

But overall, good review of a great show.

  10. [...] So when we found out that the band was on tour this summer, we had to go see them. (Our review here). We would’ve loved to see them again in the fall but we had another show that night that we [...]
