2009
Brooklyn-based band Bamboo Shoots hit the road on October 9 on a two-month long North American tour in support of it’s buzzed about new album, Armour. Like a real life Cinderella story, the boys were saved from a boring life of medical school and professionalism by their own unique brand of rock & roll. No fairy Godmother necessary. The winners of MTVu’s Best Music on Campus are bringing us a sound that’s space age chic, retro cool, and ridiculously contagious. The quartet will be showcasing their danceable sound and energetic live act to venues along the East Coast, with a pit stop at New York’s CMJ Festival, before taking cities in the Midwest and Western US by storm.
Jersey-born and with Indian roots, the boys of Bamboo Shoots got their big break in the music world when they were chosen as the winners of MTVu’s Best Music on Campus contest and offered a deal to sign with Epic Records. The four band mates immediately set all other plans aside, and within days, found themselves performing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Since then, the band has shared the stage with acts like Plain White T’s and Soulja Boy, bringing its one-of-a-kind, memorable sound to enthusiastic audiences around the world. The members of Bamboo Shoots have been praised for their ability to connect with live audiences, and their innovative sound, which combines urban-inspired beats, catchy sing-along verses, and a hint of world flavor, certainly makes listeners want to get up and dance. It’s no wonder that Bamboo Shoots’ performances have been described as “all-night dance parties.â€
