Every year, Neil and Pegi Young host the non-profit Bridge School Concert, benefiting the unique learning complex which assists children with severe physical impairments and challenging communication needs. The first was held in 1986, and the event is known as a totally unique musical event. Over the years the line-up of participants reads like a history of rock & roll.

Three years ago, Apple’s iTunes began offering live recordings from these legendary shows, and the first three volumes feature some of the most popular musical artists in the world. Since the concerts are basically acoustic presentations, the performers perform versions of some of their biggest songs like they never have before. It has turned the Bridge School Concerts into a yearly highlight, and offers a chance to hear truly original performances.

Volume IV, 22-track collection of live performances is available digitally at iTunes now and features a wide range of artists including John Mellencamp, Josh Groban, Trent Reznor, John Mayer, Tom Waits & Kronos Quartet, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ministry, My Morning Jacket, Norah Jones, Tegan & Sara, Death Cab for Cutie and Band of Horses.

As always, the proceeds from the iTunes digital downloads will be donated to the Bridge School, where one of the thrusts of their learning program is the use of advanced augmentative and alternative communication systems and assistive technology. Over the history of the concerts since 1986, some of the most exciting and surprising performances of live music have become a hallmark of the shows, and most of them are now available for the world to hear and purchase.

“Kisses Over Babylon” is the second installment of SALVO!, a 12-part feature-length music video series from Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. Kisses picks up in the same desert wasteland world, ravaged by drought. Edward is arrested by two Minors (police from Ursa Minor) for the murder of his own father, and taken to a water-labor prison. There he reunites with Brother, his long-ago friend, and rallies the prisoners to a frenzied prison break. Edward and Brother escape, followed closely by the the mysteriously recalcitrant prison guard Croc.

A few weeks ago Weezer performed a private concert for contest winners and special guests at the PC Richard & Son Theater in New York City. The show, in promotion of the band’s latest album Raditude, was sponsored by IHeartRadio.com. The band would rock a five song set that included a cover of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” with a full backing string section. The band wore matching grey tracksuits and when asked about it by a fan, frontman Rivers Cuomo responded “They give them to us. We just wear them.” It’s odd seeing Rivers perform without a guitar (on most songs) now. With the audience requesting songs off the band’s critically acclaimed (yet commercially unsuccessful) album Pinkerton, the band appeased the crowd by playing “Why Bother?”. The band also sprinkled in two songs off of their newest release Raditutde playing the infectious “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To” and the second single “I’m Your Daddy” while also playing classics “Say It Ain’t So” and “Buddy Holly.” There were some limited edition Weezer posters handed out after the show. We grabbed one for you guys. You wanna win it? email us your name and we’ll email you back if you win! (U.S. entries only, sorry!)
