Halestorm’s been one of the hottest new bands in the hard rock scene for the past year and a half though they’ve been rocking out for far longer. We recently had the chance to chat on the phone with the dynamic frontwoman Lzzy Hale on a rare “off day” for the band (no concert but plenty of press). We chatted about what type of music she heard at home growing up, the challenge in the band being seen as a whole, the band’s extremely diverse fanbase (those especially devout Lzzbians!) and more. Check it all out below and be sure to pick up Halestorm’s music on iTunes, Amazon MP3, or on CD. Quick note: The band was driving in the middle of the country so Lzzy’s phone cut out a couple of times, sorry!
The music one hears as a child can shape the type of music they’ll listen to later on in their life. What type of music did you hear at home when you were growing up?
Halestorm’s pretty unique. Does the band have a difficult time finding good touring partners?
At your shows, there’s a large female audience that really feeds off your energy. How does that affect your performance?
What’s the most difficult part in being a woman in a band full of guys?
Since you do attract a lot of the attention, is it ever a challenge for the band to be recognized as Halestorm as a whole instead of just Lzzy and the guys?
You and your brother have been making music together since you were kids. Was it a goal back then to become a successful band or were you more into making music and having fun?
At your live shows, the band will perform a drum circle. How did that come about?
Do you ever feel that you have to prove yourself in what seems to be a male-dominated industry?
Your fanbase is a very diverse crowd: young and old, men and women, gay/lesbian and straight. Do you take pride in the fact that your music affects so many different people?
Each band member has their own distinct style in terms of what they wear. Do you guys design your own clothes or have stylists?
A few years ago you sang on a version of a Shinedown song, “Shed Some Light”. Are there any plans to release that?
You really extend yourself on stage when you perform. What do you do to preserve your voice and how do you prepare for a show?
What do you sing at karaoke?
What’s next for you guys after this tour?
You guys are having a lot of fun and are appreciative of everything that you’ve accomplished. Does it all seem surreal to you at times?
Buy Halestorm’s music on iTunes, Amazon MP3, or on CD and go to HalestormRocks.com for the latest on the band!
