There is a plethora of reasons to be stoked that it is finally 2010. End of the decade lists, SXSW, the summer festivals and NEW a new record from on of Australia’s strongest bands. These are big things. To assist you with sharing your love for music we are arming you with the above widget, which includes mp3s, video and artwork from The Middle East‘s debut EP, The Recordings Of The Middle East—> all in one place!

The Middle East is Timothy Barwise, Jordan Ireland, Rohin Jones, Javed Sterritt and Bree Tranter. Individually, each of these artists bring their own adept talent and strength to the board, together they are a fierce thing to behold. Breaking out after four years of exploration and growth they have all ended up back in Queensland, Australia. The Recordings Of The Middle East was originally self released 2008 and in 2009 Spunk re-issued the mini album for the first time with new packaging and a new tracklisting. The band’s next step are their first shows ever on American soil at this year’s SXSW Music Festival in March. Their EP should really come with a warning label of affecting the desire upon its listeners to want to travel to Austin…don’t say we didn’t warn you!

“We’re enamored with the thoughtful, meticulous arrangements and finespun melodies that bathe these Recordings, songs that may sound a little like a more subdued Arcade Fire at time but still maintain their own inspired originality. Expect major stateside buzz when The Middle East invade Austin in March for SXSW.”
-Direct Current

“The band’s songs are varied and stretch to cover a lot of popular indie sounds. Fans of Iron &Wine, Fleet Foxes, Nick Drake and Bon Iver take note.”

Acclaimed multi-platinum pop-rock group the Barenaked Ladies and their label Raisin’ Records have signed an exclusive worldwide deal with EMI Music Label Services unit and are gearing up for the March 30th release of their 11th studio album, All In Good Time. The band and longtime producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda began recording the album last spring at Canterbury Studios and Jimmy C’s in Toronto and recently finished mixing with Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, David Bowie).

“This is a really important record for us and we’re really proud of it,” says guitarist/vocalist Ed Robertson. “We’re redefining who we are, and how we communicate as a band, and as friends. The album has an emotional rawness to it that we may have shied away from in the past. I think we pushed ourselves to heavier places, and also allowed for some really spacious moments. We can’t wait to play these songs live.”

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with The Barenaked Ladies on a global scale,” says Dominic Pandiscia, Senior Vice President & General Manager EMI Label Services & Caroline Distribution. “We look forward to using our complete service platform in key markets to help connect their music with core fans and beyond.”

The first single from All In Good Time, “You Run Away,” impacts radio in January. The band (Robertson, bassist/vocalist Jim Creeggan, keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Kevin Hearn and drummer/vocalist Tyler Stewart) gave fans a sneak preview of the track during their recent string of live dates in the US.

On Saturday, February 6 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the Barenaked Ladies will perform at the 2010 “Taste of the NFL,” a Super Bowl culinary extravaganza that supports hunger relief organizations across the country. Tickets are available online at www.TasteoftheNFL.com or by calling 952-835-7621. On Tuesday, February 16th, the band will be among the headliners performing at the Olympic Winter Games as part of the Vancouver 2010 concert series. Acony Records is proud to announce Dave Rawlings Machine West Coast tour dates. Fresh off a hugely successful and highly regarded national tour that ended at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry with Emmylou Harris, the Machine is ready to get back on the road in support of its critically acclaimed debut record, A Friend of a Friend. Released in November 2009, this is the first record by Dave Rawlings, the guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter best known for his work with Gillian Welch and Old Crow Medicine Show. These long time compatriots made the record with Rawlings as did newer friends Benmont Tench from the Heartbreakers, Karl Himmel, and Nate Walcott of Bright Eyes. The touring Machine will include Rawlings and Welch along with Ketch Secor, Willie Watson and Morgan Jahnig of Old Crow Medicine Show.

The fall 2009 tour saw the band focusing on the southern and midwestern parts of the country. Reviews were stellar across the board, most notably the Chicago Tribune, which said, “The Dave Rawlings Machine allowed Rawlings and Welch to focus not on the message or the mood, but the sheer joy of the music,” and the Wisconsin State Journal which exclaimed, “The band flew through the set with that elusive combination of abandon and precision…it was hard to miss the big smiles on the faces on stage as the almost overwhelming energy from the crowd poured over them.”

The reviews for A Friend of a Friend have been equally stellar:

“Songcraft as soul-baringly timeless as Twenties Delta blues.” 4 stars – Rolling Stone

“In his debut as Dave Rawlings Machine, Gillian Welch’s better half proves he can hold center stage with a reedy voice that ranges frm raucous bluegrass to soft potency.” – Time Magazine

“For nine songs over 40 minutes, Rawlings proves fascinating company…Rather than delivering a dry seminar on Americana, Rawlings keeps things lively and raucous thanks to energetic performances and a light touch on the production…he’s already been everywhere, but this debut suggests Rawlings is really going places.” – Paste

“This admirably self-effacing ‘friend of a friend’ and fondly regarded virtuoso has more than earned his 15-minutes plus in the musical spotlight.” 4 stars – Uncut

In a recent segment from NBC’s Nightly News, Nikki Yanofsky sat down with anchor Brian Williams for a glimpse into the young singer’s life. In the clip the two discuss everything from Nikki’s musical influences and the details of her upcoming album to balancing the pressures of high school with her growing stardom.

Candid and refreshingly down-to-earth but with a voice that rivals legends like her idol, Ella Fitzgerald, Nikki is set to take the world by storm in 2010. Look for her US debut album later this year, which will feature covers of classic jazz, folk, and pop tunes as well as original material (including collaborations with famed songwriters Jesse Harris and Ron Sexsmith). Her cover of Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” is available for purchase now on iTunes, and be sure to visit her official website at NikkiYanofksy.com for more information on this rising star.

Thirty Seconds to Mars set out to do something that had yet to be done when it came to releasing their latest album, This Is War. Jared Leto and fellow band mates asked their fans to send in pictures of themselves for a chance to be displayed on the cover of their new album. The forward thinking of Thirty Seconds to Mars has enticed fans to purchase the album not as another CD, but as a collectors item. Fans have been swapping the new Thirty Seconds to Mars album ‘This Is War’ the way peopled used to trade beanie babies or sports trading cards. Jared Leto told Spinner Magazine, “I heard that one was selling on eBay for $2500 or has already sold.”

The experiment has been so successful that the band is hoping to continue it on the next pressing of the album. If it does happen, Leto believes the next round will be even better.” Now people understand what it is and how it’s just been in good fun and good spirit,” he says. “So I think next time will be an even wider group.”

Over the past year Adelitas Way has spent countless days on the road, touring with Cavo, Breaking Benjamin, and Shinedown, all in support of their major label debut. It’s no secret that life on the road can take its toll, but the hard-rocking Las Vegas five-piece managed to find an escape of the road’s monotony through a video camera and well choreographed van video! In what can best be described as comedic genius with a splash of amateur directing, Adelitas Way brings fans a digital short of life on the road.

On Friday night (1/8) at 11pm (EST), VH1 will be airing Muse’s hometown performance in Teignmouth from this past September. The concert, dubbed A Seaside Rendezvous, featured the band performing seventeen songs all mixed from Absolution, Black Holes and Revelations and The Resistance. The airing on VH1 is only scheduled to be a half hour long. Fortunately, Palladia will be airing the special for an hour the next day (1/9) at 7pm (EST). Hopefully, we’ll see most of the set.

In other Muse news, the band has won three awards at Denmark’s Gaffa Magazine Awards. The band was honored for Best International Band, Best International Album and Best International Song (“Uprising”). All this comes after “Uprising” was announced to have broken a record for the longest run at #1 on Mediabase’s Alternative Rock chart (18 consecutive weeks) and Muse considering to writing the soundtrack to the upcoming motion picture Clash Of The Titans.
