Not your usual rock band, Crash Kings have been ascending rather rapidly in the modern rock scene. Without a guitar and only rocking a clavinet, bass and drums, Crash Kings are currently on a headlining tour and about to hit the road supporting JET. A few weeks ago, we had the chance to speak with drummer Jason Morris about the band’s unique sound, what type of music he was listening to growing up, working with Linda Perry and much more. Check it all out below and after the last question, check out how to win an awesome prizepack!
1. The band’s music has a bit of a classic rock feel to it with a bit of modern twist. Which bands were you listening to growing up?
2. The band has opened up for a lot of major bands like Chris Cornell and Stone Temple Pilots. Who did you enjoy opening for the most?
3. Linda Perry first discovered the band and signed you to Universal Motown. How did that come about?
4. Dave Sardy produced this album. Did you consider having Linda produce it?
5. Why do you think Dave fit in so well in making this record with you guys?
6. (Frontman) Tony has mentioned previously that the band wanted to create a “The Big Rock Sound” without guitars and not too many bands can rock out with a clavinet. Was there any apprehension in creating something that’s not as popular in the current modern rock scene?
7. A lot of bands that use keys and piano tend to have darker, moody music.
8. Have you all quit your day jobs yet?
9. What was your last job before the band signed?
10. What exactly is the meaning behind the band’s name?
11. What are your plans for this year? Are you playing any of the festivals?
12. The band’s been pretty busy and successful rather quickly. Has the whole experience been overwhelming?
THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER!
