The Audio Perv

It’s Valentines Day eve, and the Sunset strip in L.A was on fire. Los Angeles natives Saint Motel brought their explosive indie/pop music to The Roxy this Saturday, and did I mention that they ‘BROUGHT” it? Walking up to the roxy there was a line out the door and half way down the block of people dressed to the 9’s in zombie prom gear. Once in the door there were festivities all around happening. A “prom –like” photo booth, the room was decorated like it was Halloween night, and after some great other local bands got off the stage, the Prom king and queen was announced. Finally the moment we’ve all been waiting for… Saint Motel comes out, and from start to finish it was a non-stop party. The sold out Roxy was on fire. Everyone jumping up and down, dancing like it was 1999. The place got crazy. During the encore the crowd took to the stage like an actually zombie mob wanting to eat the bands brains… but no, they did not feast on any human flesh, they feasted on the music that the band didn’t stop bringing.

Generally when you think local band, you think, crappy garage band. The great thing about LA, is most of those crappy garage bands are actually really good. Saint Motel goes above and beyond that statement. Their not just good, they have the actual potential to surpass the “local” scene, and that’s exactly what they’re on the path to do. Their music is a good mix of “cool indie” and pop. So the two completely separate groups of music listeners can come together to enjoy them. And whatever stage the band takes, you can bet your ass that their going to give you your moneys worth.

Personally I left this show feeling like I got hit by a truck… did that band really just rock me that hard? Yes they did. Yes they did. Their next stop is SXSW in March and well, their presence is sure to make that festival a hell of a lot better. Los of buzz is sure to come of these guys very soon, so keep your ears and eyes on the lookout for Saint Motel.
