TAP SXSW Exclusive Interview: Stone Temple Pilots’s Eric Kretz

stperickretz350During the hectic week of SXSW, we somehow managed to snag a hold of Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz a few hours before his band’s performance at Austin Music Hall on Thursday night (March 18th). We asked Eric about starting the tour at SXSW, the band’s upcoming album, Stone Temple Pilots, recording the new album at his own studio Bomb Shelter Studios, plans for a STP live CD/DVD and much much more. The Audio Perv: What made you choose SXSW as the starting point of your tour?

The Audio Perv: With the album being self-titled, would you say that this is the definitive Stone Temple Pilots?

The Audio Perv: Does this Stone Temple Pilots album sound like any one previous STP album in particular?

The Audio Perv: Which song off the new album are you looking most forward to performing live?

The Audio Perv: You recorded the new album at your studio, Bomb Shelter Studios. what was it like recording your band there?

The Audio Perv: With everyone in the band having outside projects, how long did it take to complete this record?

The Audio Perv: Scott (Weiland) had mentioned in a previous interview that you were looking to put on your own festival.

The Audio Perv: Are there plans for a live CD/DVD release?

The Audio Perv: When you had reunited a few years ago, you had performed at the Houdini Estate. There were reports that the performance would be released on DVD. Are there still plans for that?

The Audio Perv: Would it most likely be supplementary to a future release?

The Audio Perv: The cover artwork for Stone Temple Pilots was recently released using the design “Peace Fingers Red.” What made you choose that?

Eric Kretz

The Audio Perv: The band’s music translates well acoustic and the band’s performed Unplugged and on Storytellers. Are there any plans on doing an acoustic tour?

The Audio Perv: The band is also known for their takes on covering some classic songs like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Can we expect to hear some more on tour this year?

The Audio Perv: With the anniversary of Core coming up in a few years, would you consider performing the album from start to finish live?
