Active Child is excited to announce that he will be touring the US in support of Islands and Steel Phantoms. Beginning at the Northside Festival at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY, on Sunday, June 27, and culminating in a performance at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, on Saturday, July 10, Active Child will be touring the States for the first time to showcase the songs that have allowed him to garner critical praise from the likes of notable outlets such as NME, The Guardian, LA Weekly, Pitchfork, The FADER and many others. Active Child recently toured the UK with White Rabbits in support of his recently released debut EP titled Curtis Lane (June 1, FILTER US Recordings).
Active Child is the new project from choirboy-turned-indie pop musician Pat Grossi. The influence of chorale singing, along with the sensibility of non-secular music, is as apparent in Active Child’s work as the influence of cherished pop bands like New Order, Joy Division and Tears for Fears.
“an ideal soundtrack to icy winter nights and stumbling around messy warehouse parties, Grossi’s new wave synths and dreamy vocals soar above lo-fi detailing to produce echoey pop anthems.” – NME
“… all very glacial and gloomy in the best possible sense.” – THE GUARDIAN
“These songs feel climactic, durable, far greater than the sum of their parts. If this guy can almost get you to dance to harp songs, just imagine what he might be capable of creating.” – PITCHFORK
Active Child’s debut collection of songs features the skilled use of various ’80s-tinged synths to create ethereal, soaring soundscapes punctuated by crisp electronic drum samples and handclaps. All of this lays the groundwork for Grossi’s exquisite vocals which, with their unearthly sound and evocative lyrics, take on an enchanting, hymnal quality that would not be out of place amongst the richly colored sunlight of a church’s stained-glass interior.
Active Child’s songs are an intriguing study in contrast. The organic elements of Grossi’s angelic vocals and the occasional delicate strumming of a harp cast light on the eerie darkness created by the haunting synths and cavernous reverberating of percussion.
