Continuing the spirit of giving back, in conjunction with the recently released Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album for Malaria No More, RED Distribution further draws on the power of music to save lives by donating autographed guitars from four rock legends-Elvis Costello, Carlos Santana, Steve Vai and Third Eye Blind. Guitar bidding opened on May 25 at the Dads and Grads charity auction on www.charitybuzz.com and continues through June 16.

An autographed guitar makes a memorable gift for dad or a recent grad and opens the door for fathers worldwide to empower fathers in malaria-stricken areas of Africa. All proceeds from guitars and Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album for Malaria No More help families in the fight against malaria.

The heartfelt intention and positive effects of Indie Rocks! brought this project to the attention of Elvis Costello, Carlos Santana and Steve Vai, who joined album contributor Third Eye Blind to offer their support to Malaria No More by signing guitars for the Dads and Grads auction.

About RED’s Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album for Malaria No More

In its commitment to giving back, RED pooled together like-minded indie artists to create a compilation that would raise awareness of and assist in the fight against malaria-related deaths by donating 100% of its proceeds. Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album for Malaria No More features 14 songs from artists such as Juliette Lewis, The Walkmen and Youssou N’Dour, with an exclusive live track from Third Eye Blind and an exclusive cover track from Peter, Bjorn and John. “The Indie Rocks! album is a great way to show how easy it is to help save a life,” says Scott Case, CEO of Malaria No More. “For just $10, music fans receive a one-of-a-kind compilation and send a mosquito net to help families protect their children from malaria. The generosity of the artists and their fans will have real impact in the lives of children in Africa-showing how music has the power to change the world.”

The compilation is available at such digital retailers as Amazon, eMusic, Shockhound and more. One Indie Rocks!download = One Life-Saving Net.

Widely recognized as the industry leader in independent distribution and artist development, RED Distribution handles sales and marketing for 47 independent record labels, as well as repertoire from parent company Sony Music Entertainment. Three years since the release of their second LP Grand Animals, the Robbers On High Street have moved on from delicate, early ‘70s balladry and grown confident and unabashed in their grasp of mid-60s anglophilia a la the Pretty Things & Status Quo. The Brooklyn outfit will release the “ELECTRIC EYE” vinyl single on June 8 with b-side “Face The Fog”via Engine Room Recordings. The single will release digitally on June 22. The two tunes are pulled from a collection of songs comprising the band’s forthcoming still untitled third album, a new sound that harkens back to the brash, instantaneous pop appeal of their debut Tree City.

Fans of the Robbers’ previous single, “The Fatalist,” will recognize the calculated strut of “Electric Eye,” a song packed with enough soul claps to fill even the most discriminate dance floor; while “Face in the Fog” bounces playfully between a Gal Costa backing track and a soaring chorus dripping with vocal harmonies.

You can stream both tracks from the 7-inch here

Always an exciting live act, coolly walking the line between syncopated bursts of song and Miller High Life, the Robbers on High Street will be taking their vinyl on the road for four Northeast shows to celebrate the 7-inch “Electric Eye” single release with their Engine Room label-mates The Bloodsugars.

June 10 – Philadelphia, PA – The M Room – 9pm – w/ The Bloodsugars, The Fleeting End
June 11 – Washington, DC – Velvet Lounge – 9pm – w/ The Bloodsugars, Kaiser Cartel
June 12 – Brooklyn, NY – The Knitting Factory – 8pm – w/ The Bloodsugars, Israel Darling
June 13 – Boston, MA – TT The Bears – 8:30pm – w/ The Bloodsugars, Israel Darling

Recording started in October of 2009 on the boy’s newly purchased Tascam MS-16 1” tape machine, which was lovingly dragged to several studios across Northwest Brooklyn before settling at Tommy Brennick’s (Budos Band, Menahan Street Band) Dunham Studio for mixdown. While the veterans of the band, Morgan King (bass, vocals), Steven Mercado (guitar, vocals) and frontman Ben Trokan still remain, they have been playing as a five-piece for the last three years with drummer Mikey Post and keyboardist David Sherman. Produced by Trokan and engineered by Matt Shane (Flight of the Conchords, Rosanne Cash) this was the current line-up’s first foray into a proper recording session, drawing little help from the outside save that of a horn section borrowed from the Daptone House of Soul.

As if nine, special tour dates to usher in the release of Deth Red Sabaoth wasn’t enough, the Danzig June concerts trek just got even better. Deth Red Sabaoth will be released on June 22, but those fans who have a ticket to any of the east coast dates scheduled prior to June 22 (see below) will be able to buy the new album at the show, before it’s available in stores. But wait, there’s more – those who purchase Deth Red Sabaoth at one of these special Danzig shows will also receive – as long as they last – a collector’s edition CD single with two versions of the album’s first single, “On A Wicked Night,” complete with exclusive art work. Only a limited number of the CD singles will be available, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.

On this special nine-date trek, Glenn Danzig will be joined onstage by long-time Danzig cohort guitarist Tommy Victor (Prong, Ministry), drummer Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative), and former Samhaim bandmate, bassist Steve Zing. Danzig plans to dig deep into his career-defining catalogue and perform tracks from Danzig, Lucifuge, How the Gods Kill, and on up to the present, including several new songs from Deth Red Sabaoth. Support for the east coast dates will be Gorgeous Frankenstein, the band of original Misfits member Doyle, and Seventh Void, the band that includes Danzig/Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly and Type O guitarist Kenny Hickey. The west coast dates will feature All Shall Perish and Toxic Holocaust as support.

If this is still not enough Danzig for you, the Deth Red Sabaoth Limited Deluxe Edition – only 666 are being manufactured – is now available as a pre-sale exclusively online at http://ter.ly/danzig_dlx. This box set, which is being sold for $66.66, includes the Deth Red Sabaoth CD, a limited edition “On a Wicked Night” 7-inch, an instant download of Deth Red Sabaoth available on the day of release, an autographed poster, and a stunning porcelain-like urn with exclusive artwork on all four sides.

Athens, Georgia-based quintet Dead Confederate is excited to announce the release of their sophomore record Sugar, due on August 24th on TAO Recordings/Old Flame. The anticipated follow up to their debut Wrecking Ball, this album explores new styles beyond the aching, bleak psychedelia with which the band originally made their mark.

Recorded by John Agnello (Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) during a record-setting blizzard in New Jersey, the sessions focused on the malleability of the freshly written songs. The start to this progression was shaped by tours with legends Dinosaur Jr. and Meat Puppets, and gave Dead Confederate an increased appreciation for the early underground bands of the 80s and 90s that laid the foundation on which their sound is built. The album also features a special guest appearance by J. Mascis on the single “Giving It All Away.”

Splitting songwriting duties between bassist Brantly Senn and singer/guitarist Hardy Morris, each songwriter picked their favorite of the other’s contributions, creating a complimentary collection of songs. Instead of touring the newly penned tracks, the band (Jason Scarboro, Walker Howle, John Watkins) spent two days learning 20 songs and a week reworking them, then laid half of them down.

Dead Confederate is currently touring Europe, with a return to the US in June for Kentucky’s Forecastle Festival. Be on the lookout for more tour dates as the release of Sugar nears.

“Dead Confederate’s alt-country/grunge hybrid doesn’t just feel like a compelling debut, it feels like a compelling new genre.” – The Onion

“Artist To Watch…a raw howling take on Southern rock…” – Rolling Stone

“Although southern Civil War soldiers may remain six feet under, Dead Confederate’s sincere versatility drives home rock’n'roll that is damn well alive and kicking.” – SPIN.com

“Known for its notoriously insane live show, this dramatic band forges a distinctive style…” – Paste

“Dead Confederate’s wall of sound feels cinematic and atmospheric, loud and beautiful.” – NPR

Infused with smoky, psychedelic instrumentation and slow-burning swells, Jonneine Zapata delivers a definitive grand-slam with her debut release, ‘CAST THE DEMONS OUT’, a record that luminously captures the musical essence and prowess of this one-woman army. Featuring the tantalizing, come-hither single “Good Looking”, each song on this ten-track collection is laced with dark overtones and an arresting magnetism reminiscent of PJ Harvey and Patti Smith.

A polished performer, she has previously toured with Jack White’s The Raconteurs and Soulsavers (with Mark Lanegan). This past spring, she played a three-day stint at South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX where she shared the bill with notable acts such as V.V. Brown, Fitz and the Tantrums, Banjo or Freak Out, Yacht, Fool’s Gold, and Bear Hands.

Before the end of the year, she plans to debut new music, including material recorded with legendary audio engineer Steve Albini (The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Nirvana).

We’re just starting a new feature over here on The Audio Perv called Unsigned Spotlight where we’ll try to let you know about an up and coming band or artist who’s ready to explode or they just make some really cool music. Today, we focus on Scarlet Grey. Learn about Scarlet Grey below:

Pieced together from the states of California, New York and Washington, pop-rockers Scarlet Grey now collectively hail from Los Angeles. Members Benjamin Grey (lead vocals/guitar), Keith Cooper (drums/vocals/production), Pete Emperador (bass/vocals), and Cole Martin (lead guitar/vocals) released their debut album “Black” in US and Japan in 2008, but are now gearing up for the release of their newest product, “Fancy Blood.” Boasting the same signature classic songwriting, larger-than-life melodies and pop resonance as its predecessor, “Fancy Blood” embodies all that has made Scarlet Grey a southern California powerhouse, and an online global commodity. Not only does the new record feature guest appearances by AFI’s Davey Havok and production work by Jade Puget, but the four-piece have been supporting AFI on tour in preparation for the summer release of “Fancy Blood.” Having previously played with the likes of Saosin, Yellowcard, Rooney, After Midnight Project and others, Scarlet Grey are no strangers to the stage, and are poised to win over all who lend them an ear.

Pick up Fancy Blood on iTunes, Amazon MP3, or buy the CD at any Scarlet Grey show or at their merch store
