Brandon Boyd has just released his first solo album The Wild Trapeze. The Incubus frontman took a few minutes to discuss with us about all about how he created the album, what his expectations are of it, about how playing the guitar helped him deal with his leg injury, the status of his band Incubus and much more! Check it out and be sure to pick up The Wild Trapeze at www.thewildtrapeze.com or on iTunes/Amazon MP3
You just released your solo album The Wild Trapeze. What was your main intention in creating and releasing this album?
Did it feel really different or weird in creating this album with mainly you and a producer compared to your previous times in the studio working with a full band?
You played every instrument on every song on your solo album. As a singer who’s usually behind the microphone, which instrument was the most challenging for you to play and experiment with?
Well then the guitar playing must’ve been very therapeutic
Whenever a singer in a band creates a solo album, there are always rumors of dissension within the band and of a possible breakup. Incubus is still together, right?
Do you have a timeline on when the band will be writing, recording and releasing the next album?
After having completed this album, do you think that your role in Incubus will change, whether it implies that you’ll be playing more instruments in the studio or on stage when performing live?
Will you be touring at all behind The Wild Trapeze?
In addition to being a successful, accomplished singer, you’re also a talented artist. In regards to your artwork, would you say that they’re reflections of themes from your songs or do they draw inspiration from another place?
In 2008, you had a brief art exhibition called “Ectoplasm”. Would you ever consider doing another exhibition, maybe on a larger scale?

Am surprised that BB was as open as he was about medical marijuana usage. I don’t know how smoking a joint will help a gimpy ankle, but having been in Venice Beach recently-there are plenty of “doctors” standing at various storefront waiting to sell you a “prescription.” Wish Brandon well with this latest endeavor-he is most certainly uber-creative!
This was a very good interview. Many things I hoped would be asked were addressed. Kudos on your research and well thought out questions. Happy to hear new music from the Incubus front man, I look forward to a new project from the band as well
I love that Brandon is getting older and is still as creative and curious as always. This is a wonderful thing that he has done-The Wild Trapeze-and is surely a personal milestone for him as both an artist and musician. Congratulations on that!
I am very amused by all the comments seen on his (and Incubus) fan page. It is a constant recitation of LOVE, MARRY ME, I WANT YOUR BABY or endless COME TO MY TOWN,COUNTRY, Etc. I have something different to offer.
I LOVE that Brandon is maturing. He is no longer just a pretty-boy rock star. I adore the sniffles, bum ankle & lactose intolerance issues. I am very attracted to that skinny body! I even like that stinky, poop-eating dog of his! I will take Brandon for better or for worse, unlike a lot of other mindless fans. For every flaw, nasty pet or health problem he develops, my love grows exponentially! xxxxx
