MeTalkPretty 7/14 Bowery Ballroom Review

When a band goes a year without playing in their hometown, they may start to wonder if their core audience has dissipated. Such was not the case on this special night (July 14th) as MeTalkPretty returned to their home New York City for a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom. Unfortunately, the band wasn’t headlining. Instead, they were opening for Civil Twilight, Neon Trees and Paper Tongues (not a bad lineup!)

Fronted by the sexy yet mysterious Julia Preotu, MeTalkPretty rocked Bowery as if it were Madison Square Garden despite the fact that doors had opened merely minutes before the band took the stage. Julia has a huge stage presence, and an edgy, unique voice to go along with it. You’d never guess just from hearing her sing that she has quite the endearing romanian accent. Between songs, she engaged the audience in some chit chat, talking about the band’s new We Are Strangers EP and opening up to speak about her late mother.

To the unfamiliar ear, the name MeTalkPretty might sound like a cliche emo pop punk band. But it is not! MeTalkPretty’s an energetic alternative rock band with stadium filling potential. Check them out next opening for Filter at the Bowery Ballroom on Saturday August 21st. You can get your tickets here
