Melbourne Australia psych-electronic group Miami Horror have just released a brand new video for their track “I Look to You” off their debut album Illumination, out this week.
The video and track feature the Melbourne-based chanteuse Kimbra, who, just last week, was praised by Perez Hilton, comparing her to the likes of Nina Simone, Florence & The Machine and Bjork. Throughout the track, she brings a dreamlike, wistful quality to the funked-out, horn-laced jam.
Directed by Phillip Sage, the clip finds Kimbra wandering a sweltering, mostly barren landscape, as the video gradually descends into a string of psychedelic mirages. As Kimbra engages in a Tai Chi-esque dance and the sun beams down, surreal camerawork begins to take over, echoing the psychedelia-infused track. Water dissolves into clouds, images are mirrored and intersecting, as steam rises from the scorching ground.
While the band began as just one synthesizer-obsessed producer huddled over a laptop, Miami Horror has since become fleshed out into a full live band, playing unmissable sets at Australia’s biggest festivals, not to mention some A-list support slot call ups for everyone from Phoenix, Friendly Fires and La Roux to a hand-picked hook up from Lily Allen.
Be sure to catch Miami Horror when they make their way stateside in September!
