Joshua Homme’s Rekords Rekords, through a partnership with Ipecac Recordings, will release three albums this fall: Alain Johannes’ Spark (Oct. 5), Mini Mansions self-titled debut (Nov. 2) and a reissue of Queens of The Stone Age’s self-titled debut with three additional songs (Nov. 26).

An artist-driven label, Rekords Rekords’ newly formed affiliation with Ipecac Recordings actually dates back to 2003 when Homme’s ongoing Desert Sessions series released an installment on Ipecac, re-connecting Homme with longtime friends and Ipecac co-owners Mike Patton and Greg Werckman.

“Reports on the death of the record label have been greatly exaggerated,” said Werckman. “Record labels like Rekords Rekords and artists like Joshua Homme continue to wage an assault on mediocrity and complacency in the music industry. We, at Ipecac, are stoked to work side by side with unique talents like Alain, Mini Mansions and el jefe Homme. Keep art in the artists hands.”
Rekords Rekords releases slated for 2010:

* Alain Johannes Spark (Oct. 5) – Johannes, co-founder of Eleven and collaborator with Queens of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan and Spinnerette, penned this heartfelt album in dedication to his late wife and Eleven partner Natasha Shneider. Spark showcases Johannes’ impressive musical dexterity moving seamlessly from coveted rock guitarist to soulful songwriter. “Alain’s record is the total embodiment of what the label stands for,” explains Homme. “The war against endorsing mediocrity and the uncensored attempt to take a leap off the musical cliff. Spark is a stunning examination of figuring out what you do when someone’s gone, and it’s utterly breathtaking.”

* Mini Mansions Mini Mansions (Nov. 2) – The Los Angeles based trio of Michael Shuman (Queens of The Stone Age), Zach Dawes and Tyler Parkford have spent the past eighteen months touring with a number of bands including The Dead Weather, Autolux, Them Crooked Vultures and Grizzly Bear, have released a limited edition EP and collectible 7″ all while writing and recording their full-length debut. Recorded at Homme’s Pink Duck Studios (and with Homme lending a hand on mixing several songs), The LA Weekly described the band’s first single (“Monk”) as “a mercurial slice of vintage-sounding psych-pop.” The Seattle Weekly said of the band, “Mini Mansions is the side project of Queens of The Stone Age bassist Michael Schuman, and as far as offshoots go, it ranks up there with Jack White’s The Dead Weather.”

* Queens of The Stone Age Queens of The Stone Age (Nov. 26) – A highly sought after, out of print album, the debut release from Queens of The Stone Age has been recreated by Homme as it was initially envisioned, with three tracks that were initially cut from the record reinstated. Queens of The Stone Age will be reissued on Black Friday as a 180 gram double-gatefold, colored vinyl release packaged with a CD version. The straight CD release arrives in-stores on Dec. 7.

Kid Rock will release his 8th studio album, “Born Free,” on November 16th via Atlantic Records. The record was produced by Rick Rubin and mixed by Greg Fidelman. The first single from the album will be, appropriately, “Born Free” which hits radio September 14th. “Born Free” is in many ways a transformational album for Kid Rock. While there is still the edge, wit, and swagger of previous albums, he doesn’t rap, there’s no metal – there isn’t even a parental warning sticker. Says Kid Rock, “The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit. Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul.”

The bulk of the album was recorded live in a two week span in Los Angeles with a stellar cast of musicians including Heartbreaker Benmont Tench, Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith, David Hidalgo from Los Lobos and Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney. Studios in Detroit, Nashville and Atlanta were used to incorporate collaborations with Bob Seger, Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown, Trace Adkins, and in a pairing surely never to be replicated – T.I. and Martina McBride on the track “Care.” Kid Rock and Rick Rubin, as friends, have spent many hours talking about their respective histories – starting in hip-hop, crossing into and creating new territories – as well as the need for a great new American classic rock record that challenges the field. “Born Free” is in part the result of those conversations – an album that is meant to be played from start to finish.

Kid Rock’s last album “Rock ‘N Roll Jesus,” released in 2007, debuted at #1 and stayed in the charts for 100 weeks, becoming the biggest selling Rock album of 2008. His hit single “All Summer Long” hit #1 in 8 countries and provided Kid Rock the opportunity to expand his huge touring base outside of America. Kid Rock has a unique ability to genre-hop, marking his territory everywhere. He hosted last year’s CMT Awards (whose ratings rose 19% over the previous year) and performed at events ranging from the Grammy’s to the VMA’s, EMA’s and CMA’s to the Hip Hop Honors. He has performed for and visited troops overseas numerous times, and remains one of entertainment’s most vocal supporters of our soldiers abroad. In the past year he has entered into a unique partnership with Jim Beam, while at the same time expanding his philanthropic efforts through his own Kid Rock Foundation.

The appearances scheduled to promote “Born Free” will be revealed shortly, in addition to tour activities.

Emerging as the new standard from Massachusetts’ storied musical legacy, FAR FROM FINISHED have announced August 31, 2010 as the official release date for their highly-anticipated Old Shoe Records’ debut, ironically titled FORGETTABLE. Vocalist Steve Neary explained the title, “…being cocky just never seemed to fit with this band. Forgettable is just that. It’s an attempt to acknowledge and move on. Its a effort to be happy.” Spending the better part of a full calendar year refining the details, FAR FROM FINISHED combined everything from a string quartet to a children’s choir to craft their most ambitious collection of tracks to date. These seasoned songwriters combined unconventional instrumentation, a general disregard for expectation, and a well-rounded ear for a timeless tune, to prove once again, FAR FROM FINISHED is so much more than punk.

With two studio releases under their belt, FFF’s ability to harness a real sense of melody, meshed with an infectious delivery, has established the band as a true to form diamond in the rough. The band talked about how this go ‘round musically would be received. “I think whenever you release anything there’s gonna be that feeling inside you that maybe rejection’s on the horizon, but honestly you can’t think like that. In the past, anything we’ve released has been quite different from whatever came before it, so in a sense we’re ready for whatever. Fear’s not your friend, so we could give a fuck if people don’t approve of the musical direction we took with this record,” Neary emphasized.

Going to work with legendary producer Jim Siegel (Dropkick Murphys, The Unseen) at the famed Outpost Studios, FORGETTABLE is anchored by the band’s proven ability to turn punk rock disposition into a dynamic 3-minute piece of music. In addition to being the band’s most diverse collection of songs, FORGETTABLE also remains one of the band’s most personally revealing efforts just the same. Guitarist Oscar Capps detailed the therapy of it all, “Lyrically and musically we tried not to hold anything back this time around. We’ve got stories about drugs, fathers, wives, and mothers…The good, the bad, the ugly. It’s not so much where a song came from, but where it goes and the experience of sharing it with someone else that might relate. Punk rock shows have always been a hell of a lot more fun then seeing a shrink.”

FAR FROM FINISHED will spend the duration of 2010 on the road to support FORGETTABLE. Recently wrapping their triumph of the 2010 Vans Warped Tour, the band will celebrate the album’s release with an epic hometown show on September 4th, 2010, before heading overseas to spend the fall performing throughout Europe. Bassist and all around good guy, Pesky, talked about the kind of thinking the band values during such a critical time, “We just bought a new cargo van and on the dash in sharpie is written “dream big, worry little”. It’s amusing to think of a 45-year old plumber driving around with that written on his dash.” Primed to share what could arguably be called the band’s finest hour on record, hesitation, for this band is just not an option. FAR FROM FINISHED is just as the band’s namesake suggests and as for FORGETTABLE, well…hardly.

Producer and musician Cisco Adler, best known for his work in alterna-rap duo Shwazye, is preparing to debut his new solo project. Adler recently finished work on the albums of Mike Posner, Big B, G Love and Dirt Nasty. He will be introducing previously unreleased solo music as well as some new material he has started writing for an upcoming album. Adler says to expect “hip hop to its soul, rock to its core; jazzy-reggae-folk-tronica with a little Frank Sinatra thrown in.” In other words, a little of everything.
Cisco Adler and the Pigeons will play their debut show on Saturday, August 28th at legendary Roxy Theater in Hollywood, CA, as part of the 3rd annual Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF). The festival runs from August 26th-28th and will include established headliners such as Slash, The Smashing Pumpkins, Kid Cudi, and Common. It will also serve as a platform for up-and-coming artists.

Adler recently released “The Rough Demos”—three brand new solo songs, online for free on his bandcamp page. All of the tracks feature Adler’s ever-present California sound and distinctive production style. “Body Language” has a catchy, classic vibe to it, showcasing upbeat piano and horns. “California King” invokes the laid-back, SoCal theme that Adler is proudly known for. He mellows it out with a stripped-down, acoustic alt-country love song, “Maybe Never.” The range of styles and influences continues to demonstrate Adler’s breadth as a musician.

“I’ve been making music since music made me, and I’m going back to my roots and creating music simply for the love of it. I look forward to releasing some of my old stuff, as well as writing new material for my fans and I can’t think of a more appropriate venue to debut this project at than the The Roxy Theater,” Adler said.

Fans can download the demos free at: http://ciscoadlerpresents.bandcamp.com/.
