Neil Young just released his new solo album, Le Noise, Sept 28th on Reprise Records. The eight-song album is a collaboration between the acclaimed rock icon and musician/songwriter/producer Daniel Lanois, known for his work with U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, The Neville Brothers and many others.

Young has just wrapped up his Gulf Coast tour, in which he teamed up with Tyson Foods to fight hunger in communities affected by the April oil spill.
He will appear at Farm Aid at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI, on October 2nd, and will reunite with Buffalo Springfield members Stephen Stills and Richie Furay for this year’s Bridge School Benefit concerts.

The shows, which also feature Pearl Jam, Elton John and Leon Russell, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, and others, will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, on October 23rd and 24th.

Funeral Party, a five-piece alternative rock band from the East L.A. suburb of Whittier, are fresh off a UK tour that included stops at the Reading and Leeds Festivals as well as their home city of Los Angeles. Now Funeral Party are pleased to announce January 25, 2011 as the new U.S. release date for their debut album Golden Age Of Knowhere.

Rising out of the East L.A. party scene, Funeral Party has made their presence known worldwide, earning a spot on NME’s 50 Best New Bands of 2010, a spotlight feature in UK’s famed Q Magazine and added to BBC Radio Zane Lowe’s “Hottest Record in the World” playlist. The Los Angeles Times also proclaims that lead singer Chad Elliot “…[makes] a good case for being the best male vocalist in local rock right now.”

Soon after signing with RCA Records, Funeral Party, whose name was inspired by a Cure song of the same title, finished recording tracks for their full-length debut, Golden Age of Knowhere. The album was produced by Lars Stalfors (Matt & Kim, The Mars Volta) and mixed by Dave Sardy (Band of Horses, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis).

The first three songs on Golden Age of Knowhere – “New York City Moves to the Sound of L.A.,” “Carwars,” and first U.S. single, “Finale” – establish Funeral Party’s up-tempo onslaught. The recently released video for their UK hit “Just Because,” directed by Mike Relm, was praised by BBC’s Chart Blog, calling it “one hell of a pop song.”

Funeral Party’s energetic live act led to opening slots alongside the likes of Yelle, Trail of Dead, and Julian Casablancas, as well as appearances at South By Southwest and Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. This fall, the band will take their danceable art punk on the road again, this time with Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club (US) and Jared Leto-led Thirty Seconds To Mars (UK).

“In Brazil, forró literally means party,” says Forró in the Dark’s Mauro Refosco, a member of Thom Yorke’s super-group Atoms for Peace and percussionist for David Byrne. “It’s a gathering, a good time. The objective is to make people dance.” That’s exactly what Forró In The Dark have been doing since 2005 at their weekly residence at East Village nightspot Nublu. Their signature blend of down home forró and urban cool have made them one of the city’s most creative World acts. They have also toured extensively in the US, Canada and Europe and will be supporting Gogol Bordello’s North American Tour in October/November 2010.

Forró (pronounced fo-ho) is the hip-swiveling, dance floor-filling, rural party music of Brazil’s northeastern states. And Forró in the Dark is the collective of four New York based Brazilian ex-pats — Mauro Refosco, Davi Vieira, Guilherme Monteiro, and Jorge Continentino who are updating this traditional sound for the 21st century. Their most recent album, Light a Candle, was released on Nat Geo Music late last year and they will follow up this tour with a performance with Stewart Copeland in the Netherlands.

“Lock up your auto tune. Hide your American Idol dolls. Burn your dream journal. Alain Johannes is releasing his musical Kraken, Spark. It will destroy all manufactured, contrived, 2% music in the land. Spark is undeniable.”
-Joshua Homme

Alain Johannes’ gorgeous, unflinchingly raw album Spark hits stores this Tuesday, October 5th on Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures frontman Joshua Homme’s label, Rekords Rekords (co-released by Ipecac Recordings). However, as an early treat Alain is giving his fans not one but two new tracks for free. If you haven’t already caught it when it premiered over at SPIN.com, click HERE to stream/download “Return To You.” Though it’s anchored by deceptively sunny melodies, the track carries an immense emotional weight as Alain sings “Take me away / make me forget this is real.” The other song is a non-album bonus track called “Fall To Grace.” Click HERE to stream it, or download it for free by entering an email address or sharing it with friends through social networking sites. Starting @ 10am tomorrow you can also listen to Spark in its entirety on www.alainjohannes.com and www.rekordsrekords.com.

LISTEN/DOWNLOAD RETURN TO YOU

Having collaborated with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Brody Dalle’s Spinnerette, and Mark Lanegan to name a few, Alain already has a reputation as an inventive and highly expressive guitarist. With Spark he proves himself to be a soulful vocalist and skillful songwriter as well. The album also reveals flamenco, classical, and Indian music as a major influence on his playing and one of the reasons why his style is so unique.

STREAM/DOWNLOAD FALL TO GRACE

After the passing of Natasha Schneider, Alain’s late wife and creative partner, he began writing solo material both as an homage to her, and as a means of wrestling with the complex emotions he was experiencing. The resulting songs that make up Spark take listeners on a breathtaking journey they will want to experience over and over again.

Lady Gaga made it to #44 on the New Statesman’s list of “People Who Matter in 2010,” which recognizes individuals “with global influence and the power to change our world.”

Gaga is the only singer selected for the list, where she sits alongside political leaders, business magnates and visionaries. The publication commends Gaga not only for her record breaking sales and digital achievements, but above all, her role as “champion and heroine” to millions of Little Monsters who consider her “the ultimate self-professed freak.”

The article notes, “While she is mainstream enough to sell huge quantities of records and duet with Beyoncé (on the nine-minute song ‘Telephone,’ whose video features prison bondage and lesbian kisses), she has established herself as an ambassador for the marginalised, the lonely, the misunderstood.”
