Ben Kenney, bass player from the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum rock band Incubus, and former guitarist of Grammy-winning hip hop group, The Roots, will release his fourth solo album, Burn The Tapes, October, 1, 2010.

Burn The Tapes was recorded in Kenney’s home studio in Ventura County for the past year and will be available on iTunes and his own label, Ghetto Crush Industries. The album was produced and engineered solely by Kenney with the versatile musician playing every instrument on the album. The album includes 10 original songs including the single, “Worlds Collide,” now available as a free download on www.benkenney.com.

Kenney implements experiences from his previous bands into his solo albums to give him his distinct sound. Thrashing guitars are remnants of his Philadelphia-based punk rock band, Supergrub, which was strongly influenced by Bad Brains. The heaviness of some songs is counterbalanced with funky grooves perfected from his stint with The Roots. Kenney’s vocal cadence is similar to fellow Incubus bandmate, Brandon Boyd, with added falsetto notes to his chiefly tenor vocals.

The album title comes from an ill-fated guy’s night out in South America with Incubus bandmate, Chris Kilmore. At the end of the night, their cab driver suggested they, “burn the tapes and hide the evidence.” Kenney kept that advice in mind while recording his album. “I feel like this album puts a lot of things to bed for me, musically speaking. Whatever I do next as a solo artist has to be a different process.”

A DVD will accompany the album featuring skits by Kenney and friends, questions from fans and performances with Ben Kenney and his touring band members, Ashley Mendel and Sekou Lumumba. Ghetto Crush Industries will have 500 limited edition CD/DVD combos signed by Ben Kenney. Track listing is below.
