Stereogum premiered the enchanting and ethereal video for “Don’t Leave My Mind” last week, the first single from Azure Ray’s critically acclaimed release, Drawing Down The Moon which hit mid-September on Saddle Creek. The transcendent voices of Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor fade in an out of focus as the camera captures the two songstresses in their trademark aesthetic, melding beautiful close-ups with dreamy interludes.

For singer/songwriter/producer HOPE, her name pretty much says it all.

She’s a gifted performer with an angelic voice and a naturally sunny disposition. She’s a lyricist for whom the word “love” comes easily. Armed with a message, her major label debut is set for release this October and features the sparkling first single “LOVE LOVE LOVE.” The island-inflected tune is an ode to the dizzying experience of a new infatuation, but it also describes Hope’s outlook as she nears the release of her album. “It’s about feeling so much excitement and anticipation that you don’t know what to do with yourself. When I listen to my record, I’m so ecstatic to finally be able to share my songs with the world.”

Watch Hope – “Love Love Love” ft. Jason Mraz [Official Video]

Hope’s self-titled debut bravely explores emotional boundaries in bringing this album to life. Each song carries a different message of love and positivity while maintaining a strong sense of social awareness. The American Red Cross utilized “The Rain Don’t Last” in their PSA for hurricane Katrina to help the victims during the aftermath. Her song “Drive” tackles the tribulations of a friend struggling through an unhealthy relationship, while “Mother Earth” serves as a “call” for our generation, urging us to take responsibility on behalf of our environment. Hope has landed her songs in Tyler Perry’s, “Why Did I Get Married”, “P.S. I Love You”, “Step Up 2”, MTV’s “The City” and many more. On popular social networks such as Youtube and MySpace, her songs have accumulated 50 million plus streams.

Hailed by the New York Post as “M.I.A. and Miike Snow’s lovechild”, Hesta Prynn premieres the video for Can We Go Wrong today on Spinner! The video for the title track from her recently released EP was directed by Randy Scott Slavin and filmed in Central Park in stop motion. Hesta Prynn says of the video, “The process of making this video was not that unlike the process of making the song. The intro to the song has almost a stop-motion quality to it- I wanted it to be the sonic equivalent of Max Headroom.”

Formerly of the rap group Northern State, Hesta Prynn has been building buzz with energetic live performances and a sound that combines distorted beats from a late-night dance floor with the frenetic energy of ‘90’s girl-punk.
Her full-length album is in the works with an all-star production cast featuring producer Chuck Brody.

Hesta Prynn will be doing a string of west coast dates with Kenan Bell. Full list is below. She performed at this past summer’s Wireless Festival in the UK with Jay Z, opened for Tegan and Sara, and has an unreleased track “Bury Your Bones” featured in an upcoming Volcom stone and veeco films movie “9191″ which centers around snowboarder Gigi Ruf. The Pepper 7″ is also available including a cover of Butthole Surfers anthem “Pepper” featuring M.Shawn Crahan aka Clown from Slipknot on drums as well as an original “Seven Sisters”. Hesta Prynn recently premiered a free download of “Easy Bear” featuring Tim Harrington of Les Savy Fav.

“Based on the initial single’s death-disco guitar scratch, thumping beat and disembodied, echoing vocals, Prynn’s album is one to look for” – Time Out New York

Frenchkiss quartet Suckers, who have each created their own video for the Wild Smile track “A Mind I Knew,” just premiered the final clip yesterday on IFC.com. This cut, directed by singer/guitarist Austin Fisher, features “found CGI scrapes and tests,” he relayed to IFC. “I like how unnatural and creepy things get when an amateur animator is simply trying to create an animation which depicts human hair swinging naturally or a woman smiling. It’s an innocent gesture but the result seems totally wrong in the end.”

Watch it here: http://www.ifc.com/news/2010/10/exclusive-premiere-suckers—a.php

IFC.com also featured singer/guitarist Quinn Walker’s version, featuring found home video footage, which premiered on Stereogum a couple of weeks ago. Multi-instrumentalist Pan’s video premiered on My Old Kentucky Blog last week, while drummer Brian Aiken’s clip was the first to see the light of day when it debuted last month on Pitchfork TV.

Suckers are currently on the road with Portland trio Menomena.

Oklahoma City psych/prog/experimental pop quartet STARDEATH AND WHITE DWARFS will hit the road in support of the debut album, THE BIRTH for the months of November and December with New Zealand psychedelic-pop rockers, Tame Impala.

Over the past couple years STARDEATH AND WHITE DWARFS have recorded and toured with OKC brethren and label mates, The Flaming Lips. You’ll recall both bands joined forces to record their updated interpretation of Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic album, THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON along with spoken word and vocal assistance from Henry Rollins and Peaches. Appropriately enough, the title of the album is “THE FLAMING LIPS and STARDEATH AND WHITE DWARFS WITH HENRY ROLLINS AND PEACHES DOING THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON.” In addition, SDWD toured the UK sparking a buzz of their own with THE BIRTH, which has turned the heads of the heads:

“‘The Birth’ breaks, swirls, and dives into a vortex of psychedelic sounds. But it’s also poppy enough to make your comedown a smooth landing.” — Nylon Magazine

“Tastefully odd.” — Guitar Edge Magazine

“Stardeath come out strong on their first effort… ‘The Birth,’ is the type of album that has a devout intention to assault listeners equilibriums while under the power of mind-expanding drugs.” — Synthesis Magazine

“These guys stand on their own and impress… A rock-solid debut that deserves to be heard.” — Pittsburgh Daily News

Multi-platinum-selling, Grammy-winning global superstar, actress, philanthropist and recent Canadian “Walk of Fame” inductee, Nelly Furtado, will celebrate her first 10 years of recording with her first greatest hits compilation, The Best Of Nelly Furtado (Geffen Records). The album, to be released November 16th, features #1 Pop smashes, collaborations and three previously unreleased recordings and will be available in standard and double-disc deluxe editions.

Of the previously unreleased recordings, “Night Is Young,” the album’s first single, was co-produced by Salaam Remi (Nas, The Fugees, Amy Winehouse) and Staybent Krunk-A-Delic, and co-written by Nelly Furtado. Producer Remi and Furtado also co-wrote “Girlfriend” while “Stars,” was produced by Lester Mendez who co-wrote the track with Furtado.

The Best Of Nelly Furtado looks back at a simply sensational and genuinely global first decade for the acclaimed Canadian-born singer-songwriter of Portuguese heritage. She has won and/or been nominated for seven Grammy awards, has a BRIT Award win, and has been awarded numerous Junos (Canada’s equivalent of the Grammy), including Album Of The Year for Loose as well as an MTV Europe Music Award. Furthermore, she has been nominated for a handful of Billboard Latin Music Awards and a Grammy for her groundbreaking 2009 album Mi Plan that further solidifies her vibrant and successful career as a dual language superstar. Embracing different cultures, musical styles and even languages, Nelly Furtado has helped define musical diversity for a new generation.

Nelly’s eclectic 2000 double platinum debut Whoa, Nelly! which spawned “I’m Like A Bird” was followed by the gold 2003 Folklore, whose “Forca” became the official anthem of the 2004 European Cup Football Championship. 2006’s double platinum, #1-debuting Loose spotlighted the platinum, Grammy-nominated “Promiscuous” along with the hits “Say It Right” and “Maneater.” Loose has been certified platinum in 32 countries and sold nearly 10 million copies worldwide and won the 2007 Brit Award for the International Female Solo Artist. In 2009, Mi Plan, her first album entirely in Spanish, made history when the single “Manos al Aire” soared to #1 on Billboard’s “Hot Latin Songs” chart, marking it the highest debut of 2009 for Latin Pop album and the first time a North American artist had reached the top spot with a song originally written in Spanish. The album went on to be a #1 hit on Billboard’s “Top Latin Album,” as well as iTunes and Amazon Latin music charts. In 2010, Nelly joined producer Bob Ezrin and Young Artists For Haiti in singing K’NAAN’s “Wavin’ Flag” where all proceeds go to Free The Children, War Child Canada and World Vision Canada.

A video for “Night Is Young” will be available in the near future. Furtado’s highly anticipated fifth original album will be released in early 2011.
