Soundgarden are proudly participating in the exclusive independent record store event, entitled “Back to Black Friday,†taking place on November 26th, 2010. The newly reformed band have announced a new limited edition and numbered single featuring a previously unreleased live performance of “Gun†from the April 2010 reunion show at the Showbox in Seattle, as well as an instrumental recording called “The Telephantasm.†Kim Thayil, guitarist for Soundgarden says, “Soundgarden has received great support during our career especially in our early days when we were recording for indie labels such as C/Z, Sub Pop, and SST. So, for these reasons I’ll always feel at home inside a small indie record store.†To find a list of participating stores that will carry THE TELEPHANTASM/GUN (LIVE) [7â€]- A&M/UMe, check out www.recordstoreday.com.
A recently recovered tape, thought to no longer exist, revealed an instrumental recording thought to have never been documented. Originally from the 1987 Screaming Life sessions recorded by Jack Endino, long time Soundgarden re-mix producer Steve Fisk sampled non-verbal vocalizations and guitar colors from other recordings on the same tape. Soundgarden producer Adam Kasper then had the task of mixing the song in the most sonic fashion possible. When asked what to title the newly completed track, “The Telephantasm†was the obvious choice for the band, as the song evoked the imagery of the album art and meaning of their latest album’s title. We recommend playing this loud and repeatedly. Hurry up and get your copy because quantity is limited to 4,000 copies worldwide!

Additionally, if you haven’t been able to come out to Seattle, Chicago or LA for one of their epic recent shows, Soundgarden will be performing on late night TV for the first time in over 13 years. On November 9th, the band will perform “Black Rain†from their recently released retrospective Telephantasm, at 11pm EST, to help Conan ring in his first week on TBS. This will be the first-ever televised performance of “Black Rain.â€
