Duffy performed a private set (thanks to iHeartRadio) for contest winners, industry and press at the PC Richard & Son Theater in New York City. Our writer Sophia Hepheastou was there. Head to toe in black with a high- pitched, innocently, sweet sounding voice, Duffy took the stage at the PC Richard’s stage last week. Her soulful woozy vocals paired with slinky violinists and a full band created a romantic intimate feeling for the packed 200 person venue. She opened up with “Well Well Well†lightly swaying her hips and snapping to the track. Next up was “Don’t Forsake Me,†a track which she emphasized represents “the story of her life.†There was a timeless quality to the track, bringing back the glam vibe embodied in the 50s—the only thing missing was some backup dancers with coordinated dance moves in matching taffeta dresses. With creeping guitar parts and languid violins she sang, “Endlessly†and then picked up the tempo channeling a 70s groove session with an upbeat cover track of Freda Payne’s “Band of Gold.†Duffy’s performance closed with “Mercy,†a familiar track allowing her to open up, get comfy and actually dance around. Eager fans mouthed lyrics to the chorus and danced along, begging not for mercy, but for more tunes.
