Deftones’ “Diamond Eyes” has been named “Rock Album of the Year” by the iTunes Store. One of the most influential forces in modern rock, Deftones released “Diamond Eyes” on May 4th, 2010. Bowing at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, the sixth full-length studio effort by the Grammy-winning group was produced and mixed by Nick Raskulinecz (Alice in Chains, Coheed & Cambria, Foo Fighters). The band recorded the album after their best friend and bassist Chi Cheng sustained a debilitating brain injury from a car accident in November of 2008. “After Chi’s accident, it would have been easy for us to make a sad record,” says singer and guitarist Chino Moreno. “But really, this is an optimistic record.”
Check out what the press has been saying about “Diamond Eyes”:
“Blissed-out and surreal… brutal beauty abounds.” – SPIN Magazine
“On their sixth and best effort, Deftones deftly flows from visceral alt-metal brutality to serene melodic beauty, displaying a raw intensity that’s purely cathartic.” – USA Today
“It’s easily Deftones’ most uplifting album to date… Deftones have created a ‘more optimistic’ record — and maybe the Album of the Year….” – Revolver Magazine
“‘Diamond Eyes’ belongs in the pantheon of amazing albums born from tragedy. Unlike their alleged ‘peers’ (do they really have any?), Deftones learned years ago that a whisper can be more terrifying than a scream and power isn’t always about BPMs and downstrokes per minute. And Godspeed, Mr. Cheng: Your brothers made great record in your honor.” – Alternative Press
