This spring, DEFTONES will embark on their first official headlining tour since the release of their sixth studio album, DIAMOND EYES, last May. The tour will begin on April 14th in Seattle, WA, and will finish up on June 13th in San Francisco, CA. Confirmed dates are listed below. The Dillinger Escape Plan will support on all dates.

The tour follows on the heels of a very successful 2010, which included numerous highlights: October’s BLACKDIAMONDSKYE trek, in which the band shared the stage with Alice In Chains and Mastodon; incendiary headline shows and festival appearances across Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand on Big Day Out; and cinematically striking video clips for “Rocket Skates,” “Diamond Eyes,” “Sextape,” and “You’ve Seen the Butcher” that visually complement each song. DIAMOND EYES graced several critics/readers “Best Of”/”Top 10 of 2010″ lists including MySpace, AOL Noisecreep, Alternative Press, MOG, and Drowned In Sound, among others. DIAMOND EYES was also named iTunes’ “Rock Album of the Year,” as well as KERRANG!’s 2010 Album of the Year. It’s no surprise the critics continue to pay their respects:

“Hard rock thrives on conflict and chaos, and no band has found more beauty and soaring aggression within those ingredients than Deftones.” — Los Angeles Times

“‘Diamond Eyes’ is its own maniacal animal…this is the loudest, most metallic Deftones release to date.” — AOL/Noisecreep

“The Deftones are pioneers for their slant on heavy-meets-euphoric-meets-slow-meets-beautiful, and they’ve been successful in the ability to surprise. Diamond Eyes doesn’t disappoint when it comes to strong, powerful and unexpected material.” — Filter

“They drive melodies into their songs with stunning efficiency…hooks that don’t shake easily. And Chino Moreno still manages to remain one of the most original and compelling vocalists of the last couple decades.” — Decibel

When trying to come up with one word that describes the indie-pop rock Nashville trio, Heypenny, the one that keeps coming to mind is PERSISTANT. The bandʼs new full length, A Jillion Kicks, is an album 3 years in the making. It has seen a handful of producers attached and was originally recorded at the legendary House of David studio in Nashville, TN as well as a studio in London… but something was just not right. The essence of Heypenny just did not come across in the recordings. Ultimately the band went with their gut and scrapped it all.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, where the bandʼs fans actually funded the new record, Heypenny re-tracked everything with close friend/musician/producer Charles Allison (who tracked Heypennyʼs first full length Use These Spoons) at his studio in Chattanooga, TN. It was a barnstormer session, redoing what had taken 2 years to track in a matter of 5 days. The band then enlisted the talented mixing engineer Craig Alvin (Colourmusic, The Features, Hanson) to put the finishing touches on the record.

13 blistering indie-pop tunes later A Jillion Kicks was born. The album also features guest performances from 15 other Nashville based musicians including Byron House (Nickel Creek, Robert Plant), Kevin Teal (Cerys Matthews), Natalie Prass, Mikky Ekko and many more. The band is slated to release A Jillion Kicks on February 22nd, 2011 with subsequent tours to follow. “Purple Street” is the first track on the album, which you can find at Some Kind of Awesome Bloghttp://www.somekindofawesome.com/journal/2011/1/24/skoa-presents-premiere-heypenny-purple-street.html

Cat’s Eyes are a duo formed by Rachel Zeffira, a Canadian opera soprano and classical multi-instrumentalist based in London, and Faris Badwan, the singer from British psychedelic-rockers The Horrors. In the collision of their two very separate worlds, something magical has come into being. Cat’s Eyes eponymous debut album (May 3rd; Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records) is a romantic pop masterpiece fit to dine at the same table as mid-’60s productions by Phil Spector, Joe Meek or Shadow Morton, but with a fiercely modern, experimental premise, which constantly leaves you wondering just what you’re listening to, and how on earth it was created.

Cat’s Eyes first live appearance took place in December, amid some secrecy, at St Peter’s in the Vatican, where they performed a reworked version of their song “I Knew It Was Over” during an afternoon mass attended by several high-ranking cardinals. If you didn’t catch it over at Pitchfork, footage from the Vatican can be viewed at www.catseyesmusic.com. The band’s site also has a free download of the Cat’s Eyes track “Not A Friend,” which just premiered at RCRDLBL (or click HERE to stream the track.)

The duo’s album was recorded at RealWorld studios near Bath with producer Steve Osborne. All Cat’s Eyes artwork is designed and photographed by Chris Cunningham, director of iconic videos for Aphex Twin (“Windowlicker”; “Come to Daddy”) and Bjork (“All is Full of Love.”)
