Chicago’s Joan of Arc begin their US tour with Brooklyn, NY’s Air Waves today in Lawrence, KS at Jackpot Saloon. The tour will snake its way down the West Coast, hitting cities such as Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and others before wrapping up in Fayetteville, AR at JR’s Lightblub Club on 5/21. This West Coast leg of shows will be the first time since 2008 that Joan of Arc will be playing these select cities.
Joan of Arc are touring in support of their upcoming album, Life Like, which will be released on May 10th in multiple formats – 180 gram cyan vinyl + MP3, T-shirt + MP3, deluxe CD, and various digital formats.
After recording October’s two-song Meaningful Work 7″ as a trio, frontman Tim Kinsella, drummer Theo Katsaounis, and bassist Bobby Burg welcomed guitarist Victor Villarreal (Owls, Cap’n Jazz, Ghosts and Vodka) into the fold shortly before leaving on a month-and-a-half long tour of the U.S. and Europe.
After playing 20 concerts in 20 days on European soil, the band returned home on a Tuesday night and then on Thursday morning – before the jet lag could even wear off – and entered Chicago’s Electrical Audio with Steve Albini (who has previously engineered records for two other Kinsella projects: Owls and Make Believe).
Five days later they emerged with Life Like – an album that proves, even when they’re working solely with the basics (guitar, bass, and drums), Joan of Arc still has the power to wring new sounds from the same old rock band machinery.
