This year’s Honda Civic Tour features My Chemical Romance and Blink 182. To say that kids are excited for the return of Blink 182 would absolutely be an understatement. I was able to catch the Jones Beach tour stop on 8/7/11 with openers Alkaline Trio.

I think it is a bit difficult to open a show like this at 7 pm. The sun is still out, people are still trickling in, the lights aren’t up, it can’t be easy. But Alkaline Trio made the best of it. They had a short set packed with energy and some hits. This was my first time seeing them but I thought they sounded fantastic and did a great job of getting the audience ready for a night of killer music.

Next up were crowd favorites A Chemical Romance. They definitely came to rage. The energy was incredibly high, lazer lights were out, and the audience loved every second of it. The set was filled with hits and everyone sang along to every word. The band sounded tight and singer Gerard Way stalked the stage like he owned it.

Last up were the band that most people came to see. Chants of 1-8-2 rang out before they took the stage. When they came out everyone exploded. Blink 182 played like they were still 20 year olds making snotty punk music, and I mean that in a good way. Mark Hoppus bounced around the whole time and it didn’t look like he aged at all in the last 15 years. Drummer Travis Barker was furious on the kit and Tom Delonge sang like he had something to prove.

Being around as long as Blink has been around, every song was a hit. The band kept the banter going in between songs and it felt like 1999 all over again. All in all, it was a pretty great night for music. The rain came early, but no one let that stop them from having a great time.
