KRISTEENYOUNG To Join Morrissey On Tour This November

Following her residencies in Los Angeles, New York and London this past spring and summer, KRISTEENYOUNG will join Morrissey on his first national U.S. tour in two years. The 11-city trek, with stops in Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles, runs from November 10- December 1. On each date, the New York-based one-of-a-kind singer, songwriter and performer–who has a thrilling four-octave vocal range, captivates with a dramatic performance style and designs her own eye-popping stage wear– will play material from her most recent EP, V THE VOLCANIC (released in April 2011). This marks over the 130th time YOUNG has been personally invited by Morrissey to open for him, most recently this past summer for his shows in the U.K.

For the seven-song collection, YOUNG worked again with legendary producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Morrissey), who contributed bass and guitar and who also produced 2009’s thunderous Music for Strippers, Hookers, and the Odd On-Looker. This time, YOUNG drew upon the cinema, writing originals inspired by supporting characters—some of them quite unexpected: Violet Bick in Frank Capra’s 1946 favorite It’s A Wonderful Life (“V The Volcanic”); the Angry Apple Tree of 1939’s The Wizard of Oz (“I’ll Get You Back”); Lucy Westenra in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula (“Why Can’t It Be Me?”); Old Lodge Skins in 1970’s Little Big Man (“Now I’m Invisible”); the android Pris from 1982’s Blade Runner (“The Devil Made Me”); Sarah Jane Johnson in Douglas Sirk’s 1959 melodrama Imitation of Life (“Imitation of Life”); and Cleopatra in the 1963 Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton adaptation of Cleopatra (“Fantastic Failure”)….the exception to the supporting character rule. “Grabbing me more,” wrote Jonathan Takiff of the Philadelphia Daily News, “…the hot-blooded smartypants rock of Kristeen Young with V The Volcanic”

KRISTEENYOUNG’s one-woman show caused quite a stir when it made its debut at her Hotel Café residencies this past April. Wrote Falling James Moreland of the LA WEEKLY (May 19, 2011):

“The St. Louis singer-provocateur Kristeen Young put on quite the fascinating one-woman show at the Hotel Café, defying the boundaries of technology, the laws of gravity and the mood swings of a fussy soundman. She was decked out in a style that was truly all her own…Young alternated between dancing to programmed backing tracks and playing her keyboards, aggressively hammering down dark and foreboding chords with her left hand while tapping out a weirdly demented nursery-rhyme-like counterpoint with her right, as she grinned mischievously at the unholy racket she was conjuring. Sometimes her keyboards tinkled like a music box, and at other times they groaned and shuddered with the onrushing momentum of a crashing airplane.”

Look for KRISTEEN to release “I’ll Get You Back,” the follow-up to her first single “Fantastic Failure” leading up to the Morrissey tour. She shot its first video for “Fantastic Failure” amid the landmarks of her hometown, St. Louis. The video was directed by LA video director Seaton Lin. It’s now posted on FUSE:
