Mumford & Sons Becomes First Independent Artist To Exceed 1 Million Albums Sold Digitally

Glassnote Records is proud to announce that Grammy nominated Mumford & Sons have become the third Artist of all time to sell over 1 million albums digitally in the United States, following only Adele at #1 and Eminem in the #2 spot. This extraordinary news is amplified by the fact that this marks the first time that an independent Artist has sold over 1 million albums digitally. This week also marks the band’s 3rd Top Ten Alternative Rock hit as “Roll Away Your Stone” moves up the charts. The song follows the #1 “Little Lion Man” and #3 “The Cave.”

This incredible achievement comes more than a year and a half after Sigh No More was released, adding another milestone to Mumford & Sons remarkable career. Their debut album, Sigh No More, was released in February 2010 in the United States on Glassnote Records to critical acclaim from publications such as The New York Times, Rolling Stone, SPIN Magazine, The LA Times and countless more. Sigh No More entered the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart at an impressive #2 in its first week and continued to climb the Billboard Top 200 where it peaked at #2 after a breathtaking performance at the 2011 GRAMMY Awards with Bob Dylan. The band was nominated for two GRAMMY Awards for Best Rock Song with “Little Lion Man” and Best New Artist. Shortly after release, Mumford & Sons were handpicked by VH1 for their powerful “You Oughta Know” campaign and Sigh No More has since become a mainstay on the Billboard and iTunes Charts, spawning multi-platinum hits “Little Lion Man”, “The Cave,” and “Roll Away Your Stone”. Mumford & Sons also won the ARIA Music Award for Most Popular International Artist in 2010, and the Brit Award in 2011 for Best British Album.

Mumford & Sons, currently in the studio working on their highly anticipated sophomore album, was seen this Saturday, October 1st, 2011 performing on the season premiere of the award-winning PBS series Austin City Limits, playing songs from Sigh No More and debuting new songs from their upcoming album. Mumford & Sons will return to North America this Fall for a select run of dates in Canada and for Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, CA on October 22-23rd, 2011.
