Light FM’s fourth full-length album Buzz Kill City has been officially released today, October 4th through Moonboot Records. When asked to describe some inspiration behind the making of this record, lead singer Josiah Mazzaschi replied, “Buzz Kill City is primarily an album about Hollywood. A city of lost dreams, breakups, bad landlords, etc. The album is pretty autobiographical.” Upon relocating from Chicago to Los Angeles in 2005, Mazzaschi found a liking to LA bands such as Earlimart, Silverspun Pickups, The Happy Hollows, and The Movies, to name a few. His experiences in this new city garnered Light FM’s most recent album, which tells the story of lost dreams, homelessness, drug abuse, alcoholism, and the plasticity that is Hollywood from an insider perspective.
Light FM is a four-piece group with Mazzaschi on lead guitars and lead vocals, Nicki Nevlin on bass, Jimmy Lucido on drums and Savannah Wheeler on keyboards and backing vocals. Aside from his frontman talents, Mazzaschi is no stranger to the recording industry, having worked as studio engineer and producer at some of the city’s premier studios. Eventually, he founded his own studio, The Cave, garnering a roster that includes Built to Spill, William Reid (Jesus and Mary Chain), The Spinto Band, Rilo Kiley, Harper Simon, and Money Mark.
The music of Buzz Kill City combines catchy hooks and disarmingly heart-felt lyrics with guitar riffs that are distorted to precision, a sound that grabs you both by the throat and gut while blowing your ears out. Since the self-release of Light FM’s Let There Be Light FM, the group has created enough buzz to be asked to play with The National, Ra Ra Riot, Earlimart, Billy Corgan, Grandaddy, and many more. The band is currently on a national tour opening for the Smashing Pumpkins in promotion of their new album.
