Chris Cornell is known for his extensive contribution to music encompassing his time with iconic bands Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and Soundgarden. The entirely acoustic album Songbook was recorded live on tour earlier this year and showcases the depth and breadth of Cornell’s talents as both a singer and songwriter. It also features the never-before-released song, “Cleaning My Gun”.

The concept of Songbook arose out of strong fan demand. Cornell wanted to honor fans’ desire to hear his work stripped down, as well as to thank them for their constant support during the ‘Songbook’ tour. He also used fan photography from that tour in the artwork for the album.

“My fans were pretty vocal, Tweeting and posting online, asking me to record the shows and put them out. So this album as a whole came from that, and I think we created something that really captured my tour and what I was putting out there each night,” said Cornell.

Cornell will embark on the second run of his acoustic Songbook tour tomorrow, kicking off in Memphis, TN at Minglewood Hall. He will be playing theatre venues across the country, such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the Orpheum in Los Angeles. Full tour routing is below.

Praise for Chris Cornell’s Songbook shows:
“Cornell…carried the entire show with ease, demonstrating just how capable he is of commanding a stage all by himself. He was an absolute powerhouse, belting out songs with a voice that rocked the rafters.” – Seattle Post-Intelligencer

“Sometimes you don’t recognize the full power of a voice until you strip everything away from it. Such was the case with Chris Cornell’s drop dead great show at Town Hall last night….the approach served to reveal both the full force, and the utter control, of his singing… as well as how rare his timbre remains.” – New York Daily News

“The two-hour, nearly two-dozen-song performance was a master class in the fine art of solo performance… he wove tender folk-tinged ballads, hard-rock torch songs, and soaring anthems into a cohesive whole, telling a few tales in between, ‘Storytellers’-style.” – Boston Globe

“It was a powerful concert, gathering momentum and evoking more emotion as it progressed.” – Boston Herald
