2011
Grace Potter & the Nocturnals are in the initial stages of work on their new album and recently spent time in a Los Angeles studio. “I’m really excited about how things are progressing,” says Grace of the percolating creative process that’s fueling the project. “We’re all chomping at the bit to make a KILLER record.”
GPN have also been handpicked to be part of a stadium tour next summer with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, and that massive exposure will no doubt deepen the impression made by Grace in her duet with Chesney on their CMA Award-winning single and video “You and Tequila.”
“It’s gonna be a hoot,” Grace promises. “I never thought that this is where we’d be right now—especially in this capacity, with country music being such a great new platform for us, and one we’d never considered before as a possibility. I mean, Giants Stadium, Foxboro—these are places I’ve always thought of in terms of massive concerts and sporting events, and in a few months we’re going to be playing there. It’s surreal, but at the same time there’s a real sense of accomplishment for me and the band.”
Fans can also look forward to seeing GPN spotlighted on DIRECTV’s Guitar Center Sessions. The performance and interview with host Nic Harcourt, filmed live in front of a studio audience in the Vintage Room of Guitar Center Hollywood premieres Saturday, December 3., at 9 p.m. ET in on DIRECTV’s Audience Network (channel 239) and in 3D on the satellite service’s n3D.
Additionally, Grace and the band recently recorded a live iTunes Session, which will be available at the iTunes Store starting December 6th. Flushed with the afterglow of their summer tour—and tighter than ever as the result of months of nightly performances—Potter and company tore through their ever-growing song book while also delivering a rendition of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” as convincing as it is unexpected, along with the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” a track the band played often in their early days of touring.
Each one of the above events represents another stepping stone in the gradual but ever-upward career arc of this exceptional band and its gifted, charismatic frontwoman. During ABC’s highly rated telecast of the CMA Awards on Nov. 9, Potter joined Chesney for an intimate acoustic performance of “You and Tequila,” inspiring Entertainment Weekly’s Ken Tucker to write, “It’s beginning to seem bafflingly impossible that Potter isn’t a bigger star, isn’t it?” Given what is happening now, and what is on deck for the coming months, Grace Potter’s moment is right around the corner.

Hey, it looks like Grace isn’t wearing pants, but that’s nothing new. :)
