2011

Young Man, the project of singer-songwriter and producer Colin Caulfield, is set to tour the southeast with Givers in January fresh off of tours with the Cold War Kids and Grouplove. See below for a list of dates.
Young Man’s second full-length album, part two of a trilogy on Frenchkiss Records that began with Caulfield’s recent debut LP Ideas of Distance, will be released in May 2012. The forthcoming album was produced by John McEntire (Broken Social Scene, Tortoise, The Sea and Cake); Young Man recently premiered an alternate take of the Ideas of Distance track “Then & Now,” recorded with McEntire during the new album’s sessions at Tortoise’s Chicago-based Soma Electronic Music Studios, via IFC.com: http://www.ifc.com/news/2011/10/young-mans-then-now.php.
The follow-up to Young Man’s 2010 EP Boy, Ideas of Distance has been hailed by NYLON for its “impressive tracks…[that] have a sort of cinematic quality to them” while AOL Spinner notes that “it is…evident that this young man is, as the saying goes, wise beyond his years.” Ideas of Distance was written, recorded and mixed by Caulfield. Building on Boy’s decidedly lo-fi approach, the eight tracks on the full-length are meticulously produced, layering Caulfield’s vocal harmonies with atmospheric guitars, keyboards and percussion.
Caulfield gained widespread recognition through a series of YouTube videos performing covers of artists including Ariel Pink, Bon Iver and Beach House. His cover of Deerhunter’s “Rainwater Cassette Exchange” caught the attention of Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox, who called it “fantastically superior to the original” instantly garnering the attention of their active online community.
