In conjunction with his 17th solo record Ringo 2012, Ringo Starr launches a music video competition with Genero.tv giving filmmakers the opportunity to make the official promo for his new single, “Wings.”

The competition represents an opportunity for filmmakers to put their work directly in front of Ringo, one of the world’s most influential artists, and Universal Music Enterprises, one of the industry’s leading record labels.

After the competition closes on March 7th, finalists will be selected by Ringo, UMe, and Genero. Ringo will then personally choose his favourite, which will be serviced to media as the official promo video for “Wings.”

Ringo’s new album, titled simply Ringo 2012 and produced by Ringo, was recorded in Los Angeles and mixed in England by Ringo and Bruce Sugar. Ringo 2012 is his second release on Hip-O/UMe, and will be released on January 31 in the United States and January 30 Internationally. Of the 9 tracks, two are covers, “Think It Over” and “Rock Island Line,” and two are new versions of his own songs, “Wings” and “Step Lightly.” Ringo 2012 will be released digitally, on CD and vinyl.

Ringo Starr is the latest artist to partner with Genero.tv, who have also run music video competitions for Duran Duran, Moby, David Lynch, Alicia Keys, Royksopp, Bombay Bicycle Club, Band of Skulls, The Temper Trap & Booka Shade amongst many others. Their videos have been screened on TV, at Coachella music festival, before Duran Duran’s live concerts on their current world tour, at the BFI in London and ACMI cinemas in Melbourne, as well as a host of film festivals.

Genero.tv is a platform that gives filmmakers the opportunity to make the official music videos for featured artists and songs. While championing filmmakers from around the world and helping expose them to the international music industry, it also seeks to revolutionise the way artists connect and engage with their fans. They allow the global creative community to make and upload their own music videos for the world to watch, vote on and spread virally.
