Roadrunner Records is pleased to announce the signing of New Zealand’s Avalanche City in North America. Avalanche City is the brainchild of Dave Baxter, a singer songwriter who wrote, produced, recorded and played every instrument on his debut album Our New Life Above The Ground, which was released July 8, 2011 in New Zealand. Baxter recorded the now platinum album in just one week. Avalanche City is the fastest selling debut artist in New Zealand history.

Roadrunner Records will release the four-track Love Love Love EP on April 3, 2012 (see track listing below). The first single “Love Love Love” will go to radio in May 2012 with a full length album to be released later this year. “Love Love Love’” debuted at #1 on the New Zealand singles charts.

“Love Love Love” Video

The story of Avalanche City begins with David Baxter in a house, alone, for hours and hours each day for months, slowly learning how to sing by process of scales, recording, and self critique. Six months after taking the first steps towards singing, Baxter played his first solo show as Avalanche City. Six months after the first show, one year after beginning the process of teaching himself how to sing, the first tracks were laid for Avalanche City’s debut album Our New Life Above The Ground. Armed with a sack full of vegetarian single serve curries, Dave Baxter headed into the countryside and moved into a little community hall just north of Auckland. There he spent the week alone recording and playing everything himself with only the cows and the milk trucks as company. Once completed, the album was available free to download for four months – it received over 11,000 downloads. When it was commercially released shortly after, it rocketed up the charts.

Avalanche City’s live show will feature various musicians and instruments from mandolin, ukulele, and glockenspiel to accordion. See Avalanche City at SXSW and on tour with Fun. at the end of March. Tour dates are listed below.

In anticipation of their upcoming headlining North American tour, Caveman are sharing an exclusive live performance of “Vampirer/Old Friend” that they shot in Los Angeles last year on their first visit to the West Coast. You can see the video, shot by John O’Hara in Silver Lake on YouTube HERE and Vimeo HERE. Their debut CoCo Beware will get a wide release on March 27th via Fat Possum Records after the self-release on the band’s Magic Man! label in the fall.

Now the band sets out on a Spring tour through North America starting in Chapel Hill on March 6th and including stops in Georgia, Florida, Austin’s SXSW, Toronto, the Midwest, and Los Angeles, where they’ll return to the Echo — home to their first-ever LA show, a sold-out one last December. Caveman is made up of five proud New York natives: lead singer/songwriter Matt Iwanusa, who also adds percussion and drums to the band on record and live on stage. Guitarist Jimmy “Cobra” Carbonetti, who designs his hand-made Cobra Guitars from scratch, drummer and native Manhattanite Stefan Marolachakis, bassist Jeff Berrall, and Sam Hopkins on synths. Caveman’s 10 song debut CoCo Beware is produced by Nick Stumpf (French Kicks) and shows front man Matt Iwanusa’s ability to craft melodies and lyrics which tackle topics of life and love, reflections on hope and joy, and moody observations, all sung in grandiose four-part harmonies, wrapped in timeless melodies.

The three-day event will take place July 13-15, 2012 at Louisville’s scenic, award-winning Waterfront Park. The final Forecastle lineup will total more than 70 bands on five stages. As previously announced, Saturday headliners My Morning Jacket are collaborating with the producers on the sights, sounds and experiences of the entire festival weekend.

The 2012 event marks the 10th year of the festival, which began in 2002 as a small, free outdoor neighborhood event celebrating the Louisville music community. Since then, it has evolved into the one of the country’s premier multi-day summer festival destinations focusing on music, art and environmental activism.

This year’s lineup serves as a testament to the festival’s tremendous growth.
