Walking past the line that stretched out of Terminal 5 on March 17th, one could have easily gotten mixed up about what kind of event was taking place inside that night. Nearly everyone in line was wearing some sort of cross on their shirt, some had even taken to painting them on their faces, but this crowd was far to liquored up to be attending a church service. Almost the entire line had some form of green on them, perhaps there was to be a weird St. Patrick’s Day celebration inside the venue? No, in fact what was taking place that night was a concert put on by Justice, the French electronic duo who put on legendary performances that are rivaled only by their countrymen Daft Punk.

As typical for Terminal 5, the show was oversold and space on the floor was a valuable commodity – the balconies were notably spacious and comfortable and people jammed as close as possible downstairs to be close to the duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. Shortly after their scheduled start time, their signature cross light up on their stage set up and the duet walked behind their light filled booth (at least I think they did right away – their setup was so massive that it hid them from all the photographers in the photo pit) and began their own rendition of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ (featuring a vodka based drink that someone tossed towards the stage splashing the front row and me) before kicking off what can only be described as a 90 minute nonstop rave.

After retreating into the balcony to try to get some decent photos of Justice hard at work, it hit me just how massive and passionate this crowd was. Everyone from the very front to the very back was dancing along to the music. It’d be impossible to even attempt to list what was played as the duo as masters at working three of their songs together at the same time. Predictably, the song that got the biggest reaction from the crowd was hit single D.A.N.C.E. which featured Xavier de Rosnay walking to the front of the stage to play keyboards as Gaspard kept mixing from behind the booth.

To be honest, it’s a struggle even attempting to transcribe this night. Justice are masters of their craft and know how to grab their audience by the throat and refuse to let go for the entire show. When the band walked off stage for their encore, not a single person moved from their spots until they returned to play a few more songs. When the band was then finished, the crowd stood still wanting even more, but alas the night was over. As clichéd as it sounds, this was truly a show that just had to be seen.

Fresh off a run of tour dates that began in Santa Ana, CA on March 14, 2012 at The Observatory, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros announced that they would release a second album by year’s end in addition to their next studio album, Here, which will be released by Community Music on May 29, 2012.

“In the middle of the recording process we realized we were essentially making a double album. Being four years since our last album, the writing explored a wide variety of subject and sound, as it turned out we had a lot to say,” said the band’s Alex Ebert. “Instead of putting it out all at once, we found that two different albums seemed to be forming. Alone these albums are albums. Together these albums express a varying and so relatively living portrait of our lives.”

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros today posted the final tracklisting for Here this morning on their website www.edwardsharpeandthemagneticzeros.com, and recently unveiled the artwork for the album, consisting of a photograph shot by Alex Ebert in Mozambique on the fan website http://themagneticzeros.com.

“The hard division created by the horizon of sea and sky represents the appearance of a dualistic world of dark and light, us and them, here and there. The circle that breaks the dividing line between the sea and the sky represents what feels to be the underlying truth: that creation lives not by the laws of duality or division, but emanates from everything at once, swirling all falsely-held boundaries in a wonder of every spectrum of experience,” said Ebert.

Following the screening, the groups performed an acoustic set followed by an encore screening of the film and performances at the LBJ Lawn at the University of Texas. The Emmett Malloy directed film covered the bands’ journey as they traveled in vintage railcars across the American Southwest over the course of a week, playing concerts at six unique outdoor locations along the route.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will launch a nationwide tour starting in Oakland, CA at the Fox Theatre on May 2nd. The band will be headlining the iconic Greek Theatre and kick off its 2012 Season on May 4th. The following night the band will headline Santa Barbara’s Santa Barbara Bowl for the first time. EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution has announced that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Martha’s Music to release the highly anticipated album from THE SMASHING PUMPKINS entitled OCEANIA on June 19th, 2012. The agreement covers the world excluding Canada, Brazil and Australia.

Produced by THE SMASHING PUMPKINS’ frontman Billy Corgan, OCEANIA is an intense and dynamic offering that will appeal to new and existing fans of THE SMASHING PUMPKINS alike. OCEANIA, the band’s 7th studio record, is “an album within an album,” part of their 44-song work-in-progress TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE.

Peter Katsis, manager of SMASHING PUMPKINS for Prospect Park, added: “The Smashing Pumpkins created Oceania as an album experience, and it is intended for the process of the release to follow a path of inclusion, so that best efforts are made for all the fans hear it at the same time as press or radio. We were excited to find partners in EMI Label Services that were equally passionate about the plan for the album release as well as being huge fans of the Pumpkins.”

EMI’s relationship with THE SMASHING PUMPKINS dates back more than 20 years, to the release of Gish in 1991. That album was reissued this past November along with 1993’s Siamese Dream. Mike Harris EVP/GM EMI Label Services / Caroline distribution said: “We are thrilled to extend the long-term partnership between The Smashing Pumpkins and EMI with the release of Oceania. Everybody at EMI Label Services is looking forward to working closely with Billy and the band to help them deliver their vision and their music to fans around the world.”

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS have created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in musical history having sold more than 30 million albums, and won multiple Grammy awards in the process. Formed in Chicago in 1988, they released Gish, their influential and platinum debut in 1991, which was followed by albums including the nine-time platinum Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and the four-time platinum Siamese Dream, as well as the platinum certified 1998 album Adore. The pivotal group’s many hits defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation. The PUMPKINS returned in 2007 with their acclaimed sixth album Zeitgeist. They have since remained on the cutting edge of music and technology with various online releases.
