Acony Records is excited to announce a string of spring tour dates for Gillian Welch. The duo of Welch and David Rawlings will hit major US cities, including San Diego, Austin, and Dallas, on their two-week run. Welch and Rawlings will be performing songs from The Harrow & The Harvest, Welch’s 2011 GRAMMY-nominated record that Rolling Stone deemed “as haunting and beautiful as ever.” The complete list of tour dates is below, and more information can be found at www.gillianwelch.com.

The Harrow & The Harvest has been met with wide critical acclaim, receiving nods in Paste, American Songwriter, Uncut, Mojo, and Q in their Best of 2011 lists. The Los Angeles Times admired the record’s “lilting voices, vivid lyrical twists and crisp acoustic flourishes,” while the Associated Press was enthralled by the album’s “10 songs that suspend time and reduce the entire world to a bare, slat-floored room.” American Songwriter praised the new songs as “defiantly spare and spectral, featuring the dueling guitars and voices of Welch and longtime partner Dave Rawlings. Their playing sounds tighter and more intuitive than ever,” and The New Yorker was won over by the “splendid record, full of intricacies and deep feeling and subtle associations and turns of mind.”

Alabama Shakes will extend their U.S. tour with a headline run that kicks off July 29 at the Paper Mill in Syracuse, NY and includes a show at Los Angeles’ Music Box on August 14. A ticket pre-sale for the newly added dates is currently underway at AlabamaShakes.com.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday, April 27. The band heads out with Jack White on May 15 for a series of sold-out dates. Alabama Shakes will play a free show in New York City’s Central Park on June 24 as part of the 2012 SummerStage concert series and perform at the Hangout, Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, Newport Folk, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands music festivals. See below for dates.

Available a week early on the iTunes Store, Alabama Shakes’ debut album, Boys & Girls (ATO Records), bowed in the Top 20 on The Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on the Independent Label chart. Last week, following its wide release, the album jumped to No. 8 on The Billboard 200. Released in Europe by Rough Trade, Boys & Girls debuted at No. 3 on the U.K. album chart.

“Compared to computer-tuned radio pop, or even the big-time pop-soul of a genuine singer like Adele, the Alabama Shakes sound raw-boned and proudly unprocessed,” said The New York Times’ Jon Pareles in a Sunday “Arts & Leisure” cover story. Entertainment Weekly put Boys & Girls on its ”Must List,”
the Los Angeles Times said it’s “as combustible as it is nuanced — and destined to be one of the albums of the summer” and Rolling Stone noted: “a White Stripes-ian sense of what-the-fuck discovery imbues a debut where even subtle things like ‘Heartbreaker’ swing like wrecking balls.”

“If [lead singer] Brittany Howard ever bugs you to be her baby (as she does repeatedly on Be Mine), you will give in,” said USA Today while the New York Daily News awarded Boys & Girls four stars, observing: “Howard sings a musical phrase like a track and field star throws a shot put. She’ll lean far back in a note, pausing to amass lung power and heft. Then, in a burst, she’ll hurl the phrase to the sky, hitting her target with the aim of an Olympian.” “Shakes numbers such as ‘Hold On’ and ‘You Ain’t Alone’ might be younger than Siri, but they have the consoling authority of standards,” said The Washington Post.

Alabama Shakes – comprising vocalist/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, drummer Steve Johnson, and bassist Zac Cockrell – are based in Athens, AL and began playing together when they were in high school. Ben Tanner assists on keyboards. Boys & Girls – produced and mixed by the band – was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN.

On July 24th, Columbia Records will release Gossamer, the highly anticipated follow-up to Passion Pit’s critically acclaimed 2009 debut album Manners. The album will be comprised of 12 new tracks that showcase Michael Angelakos’ ever-expanding lyrical talents and bring to life his trademark irresistible beats. “On Gossamer there is more of a dichotomy between the lyrics and the music. You hear my lyrics more precisely which is something I was ready for. The lyrics on this album have a lot to say about what the last two years of my life have been troubled with,” explains Angelakos. Gossamer was made throughout 2011 in Los Angeles and New York City, and again finds Angelakos working with Manners producer Chris Zane.

Acclaimed for their unabashedly danceable live performances, Passion Pit is celebrating the upcoming release of Gossamer with a series of warm-up shows this month. They will debut tracks from this new album as well as perform fan favorites from both Manners and Chunk Of Change EP. Passion Pit will then hit the summer festival circuit, beginning with SunFest and Meltdown in May and going on to play coveted slots at New York City’s Governors Ball Music Festival in June, Firefly in July and Lollapalooza, Osheaga and Outside Lands in August. Additionally, Passion Pit has announced two special co-headlining performances at world-renowned venues this summer; Red Rocks on August 7th and the Hollywood Bowl on September 9th (see dates below).

Passion Pit is the dynamic musical mission of Michael Angelakos, the electronic wunderkind best known for his complex and multi-layered pop songs. Angelakos, who debuted with his notoriously charming Chunk Of Change EP in 2008, released Passion Pit’s debut full length Manners in 2009.

Pitchfork joined Angelakos in the studio in March to listen to a handful of new tracks and discuss the making of Gossamer. Check out more from that interview here

Thirty Seconds To Mars have announced that they are currently working on their 4th studio album, the follow-up to 2009’s global hit This Is War. The new album is a “dramatic departure from the past”, says singer and songwriter Jared Leto, describing it as being “very orchestral, narrative, interactive and even more electronic than previous projects”. Leto is once again producing the album along with several other talented producers including the return of Steve Lillywhite (U2, THE KILLERS). The trio are working out of their studio in the Hollywood Hills dubbed ‘ICAASS’ (International Center for the Advancement of the Arts and Sciences of Sound) or ‘The Lab’ for short, as well as incorporating site specific recording in locations as far reaching as India, Africa, Yosemite, the California desert and Europe. Jared spoke with Rollingstone.com about recording the upcoming album and new technology venture VyRT, the feature can be read here.

The band plans to re-launch their successful event dubbed The Summit and plans to launch The Summit 2.0 as an app which will allow fans to be a part of live recording for the album through Facebook, Twitter and a new technology platform called VyRT.

The band is also using VyRT for a live performance and sneak peek into the workings of Mars, inviting fans directly into The Lab studio on April 27th for a live digital experience which will include an intimate live performance, preview of their live tour film, sneak peek of their documentary film ARTIFACT, and a discussion with the band. Digital tickets are available at VyRT.net/Mars For the first time ever, VyRT gives artists the opportunity to sell digital tickets to live events that are broadcast worldwide in an online social theater. This isn’t your grandmother’s live stream. VyRT is a high quality, high production value event that’s centered around the idea of creativity and community. VyRT gives artists the ability to share their work without having to rely on the current prevailing sponsor based model. By avoiding that system VyRT helps to create meaningful content that customers truly value. It is a one of a kind digital experience.

In December, Thirty Seconds To Mars celebrated their final shows in support of This Is War with a week-long celebration in NYC dubbed “MARS300” to commemorate their 300th tour date. They were honored by the Guinness World Records® for performing more concerts than any other band in a single album cycle. Fans around the world were able to experience the big Guinness World Record-breaking MARS300 show by purchasing a digital golden ticket through VyRT.net, allowing them access to a live and interactive broadcast. A first of its kind, ticket buyers got to watch the show live and connect socially with friends and other global fans simultaneously.

Signed to their first record deal in 1998, Thirty Seconds To Mars consists of brothers Jared and Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic.

Ume today announced a run of co-headlining dates with Life and Times. The trek will begin in the band’s hometown on June 8th and wind down in Denver, Colorado on June 19th.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Ume is Lauren Larson (Vocals, Guitar), Eric Larson (Bass), and Rachel Fuhrer (drums). The trio’s music is one of beautiful juxtapositions: the loud and soft, the aggressive and eerie, buoyant melodies bursting through wall-of-noise dissonance. Ume explores the artier, heavier side of indie rock, post-punk, and alternative rock. The band merges soaring fretwork with indelible pop hooks, radiant choruses, and front-woman Lauren Larson’s ethereal vocals.

“Distortion-heavy jams invite comparisons to Sonic Youth, but Ume do more headbanging and wailing,” Rolling Stone exclaimed while declaring them one of the 16 best, unsigned acts in the country prior to their signing last year. While critics will inevitably clamor for comparisons, Ume is ultimately a beast unto itself.

With Phantoms, their full-length album released in August of 2011 by Modern Outsider Records, Ume harnessed their carefully crafted chaos into ten tracks, capturing the unhinged passion and raw catharsis of their live shows while pushing their ever-evolving sound to impressive new heights. Like a bridge between Black Sabbath and Bat For Lashes, the LP is heavy, anthemic, beautiful and mesmerizing.

Ume has already garnered impressive reviews in the media. Nylon declared, “this band is ready to break out in a whole new way…A little like fuzzy shoegaze, raw garage rock and irresistible pop all rolled into one fiery package,” while Relix proclaimed the music as “heavy rock and ethereal indie pop with deft precision, finding new ground somewhere in between Warpaint, Metric and Mogwai.” Ume recently caught the attention of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain who attended and taped one of the band’s many packed shows at SXSW for an upcoming episode of his TV show No Reservations. To quote Bourdain, it was “… a shitload of rawk in a tiny little room.”

Kimbra’s about to head out on the road at the end of next month with Foster The People in support of her upcoming album Vows but last Monday, the New Zealand singer/songwriter stopped by Los Angeles’s Bardot for a performance at the venue’s free School Night! residency.
