Multi-platinum recording artist Gotye announces his biggest ever tour of North America today, including stops at the some of the nation’s most iconic venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, LA’s The Greek and NYC’s Radio City Music Hall. He’ll also appear at Bumbershoot and Austin City Limits; full list of dates below! Tickets go on-sale to the public on June 8. Fans who have “Liked” Gotye on Facebook or signed up for his mailing list by midnight EST on June 4 will get advance access to purchase tickets for all shows. Go to www.gotye.com for more details.

Special guests on the tour include acclaimed Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins, Brooklyn buzzband Chairlift and indie pop outfit Givers. South African born multi-instrumentalist Jonti will open most dates with cult hero Zammuto (ex-The Books) playing first at some shows. Kimbra – who featured on Gotye’s chart topping song “Somebody That I Used To Know” – will make a one off appearance on the Dallas date.

It was also announced today that Gotye will finally release his cult album Like Drawing Blood on CD and vinyl for the first time in the US through Fairfax/Universal Republic Records this July; it is available digitally now. Like Drawing Blood, originally released in Australia in 2006, is the album that first put Gotye on the map. In his homeland it was the ultimate indie ‘word of mouth’ project; eventually going platinum without ever making the top 40. It eventually earned Gotye the Australian equivalent of a Grammy and went on to top numerous critics polls in Europe before being named iTunes “Album of the Year” for 2007 in the UK. The album features his cult classic “Hearts A Mess” with its unforgettable video; watch HERE.

Next month, fans will get another bonus release from Gotye – ten remixes of the song that changed everything for him – “Somebody That I Used To Know” [Featuring Kimbra] – from his most recent album Making Mirrors (Fairfax/Universal Republic Records). The bundle, available June 8th via iTunes, will feature remixes by Tiesto, Adrock, 4FRNT, Gang Colours, M-Phazes, and many more; full track list below! There are over 1,000 unapproved remixes of this song scattered across the internet so this release collects most of Gotye’s favorite versions in one place.

“Somebody That I Used To Know” [Feat. Kimbra] has been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the last seven weeks. It also recently reached #1 at Top 40 and #1 at Hot AC and thus sits on top at four radio formats – an historic accomplishment. The music video recently crossed the 200 million mark on YouTube, making it one of the most-viewed clips ever; watch HERE.

Gotye’s most recent offering Making Mirrors has already sold nearly two millions copies globally. The recordings were created over the duration of more than two and a half years. To write and record its dozen intricate songs, Gotye moved from Melbourne to a barn on his parents’ remote land in Australia’s Mornington Peninsula. Making Mirrors, is pop at its most precise, but also electronic music at its most emotional. The record delves into dub, Detroit-era Motown soul, stadium-size politi-pop, synth-folk and world music on glorious, sprawling, huge-hearted songs.

Willamette Week is thrilled to announce the lineup for MusicfestNW 2012, now in its 12th year of showcasing the finest in national and regional music in one of the most compelling urban areas in the country.

MusicfestNW is once again returning to the historic Pioneer Courthouse Square—Portland’s civic living room—for three picturesque outdoor headlining performances at Levi’s Pioneer Stage headlined by shoegazing alternative rockers Silversun Pickups (Sunday, Sept. 9), mashup superstar Girl Talk (Saturday, Sept. 8), and the world music-tinged indie folk of Beirut (Friday, Sept. 7).

Beyond the Square, MusicfestNW will once again take over the city of Portland for five days, with 150 bands playing at 16 clubs all over the city. On Wednesday, Sept. 5, electropop upstarts Passion Pit headline the Crystal Ballroom (the band also plays the next night) and reunited post-hardcore titans Hot Snakes play the Roseland Theater. Critics’ darlings Ceremony, Julia Holter, Lightning Bolt, The Men, Trust, and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart will all be performing special sets of over the September weekend. The festival also features alt-country act Old 97’s playing their seminal record Too Far to Care front-to-back, the beautiful folk tunes of The Tallest Man on Earth, local atmospheric rockers The Helio Sequence, rising hip-hop phenoms Danny Brown and Yelawolf, A-Trak DJing on the Nike Sportswear stage, and the debut of the Red Bull Common Thread series featuring guitar heroes Dinosaur Jr. with sets from the bands’ two offshoots, Sebadoh and J. Mascis.

Willamette Week is also proud to announce the debut of its very own tech conference to coincide with MusicfestNW. Portland has a rich and underrated tech scene, and in its first year, Portland Digital eXperience (PDX) will extend the MusicfestNW beyond music to embrace the technology and startup community by featuring conversations with leading thinkers, both local and from outside Portland. The event, held September 6-8, will focus on individuals who exemplify an “attention to detail, creativity, and the craft of building compelling experiences.” Among the confirmed speakers are Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co., Evan Doll of Flipboard, James Keller of Walmart Labs, and Chris Teso of Chirpify.

Previous MFNW performances include: The National, The Decemberists, Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, Vampire Weekend, TV on the Radio, Explosions in the Sky, Sunny Day Real Estate, Spoon, Iron & Wine, M. Ward, Built to Spill, Arctic Monkeys, Cat Power, Panda Bear, Black Lips, Band of Horses and The Silver Jews.

Festival wristbands and tickets for shows at Pioneer Courthouse Square, Crystal Ballroom, Roseland Theater, and Aladdin Theater go on sale on Friday, June 1 via Cascade Tickets. Festival wristbands are on sale at two price points:

- $125 for an all-inclusive wristband that gets you into all three outdoor shows and the rest of the five-day festival.

M83 has released the official video for “Reunion” the second single from
Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.

Directed by Fleur & Manu and Produced by DIVISION, “Reunion” is part two of the story that commenced with “Midnight City.” Together, these two tracks are the soundtrack for a pack of gifted kids with telekinetic powers who escape from an institution and run wild through a desolate cityscape. In the first video we witness their liberation, with “Reunion” we experience their defiance.

Having recently relocated to Los Angeles, the video reflects Anthony’s ongoing love affair with the magical escapism of film and the city itself.

“Reunion” is now available in a remix package of six re-works of the track, by Mylo, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Sei A, The Naked And Famous, Polly Scattergood, and White Sea.

Reunion EP tracklisting:
1. Reunion (Album Version)
2. Reunion (The Naked And Famous Remix)
3. Reunion (Sei A Remix)

Cardiff, Wales-based septet, Los Campesinos! have posted a brand new song – their first since the release of last year’s album Hello Sadness (Arts & Crafts) – on their website for free. The song, entitled “Tiptoe Through The True Bits,” is available to download free by clicking HERE. “Tiptoe Through The True Bits” was a song recorded at the same time as Hello Sadness, but never found a home on the album. Says the band, “’Tiptoe Through The True Bits’ acts as an appropriate bookend to what happens within Hello Sadness, both musically and personally.”

As previously announced, Los Campesinos! will return to the U.S. this June in support of Hello Sadness. Tickets for these shows are on sale now. Yellow Ostrich will support the band on all of their U.S. dates.

Live, Los Campesinos! are revelatory. The seven-piece is simply larger-than-life when they take the stage, oozing punk rock energy and encouraging cathartic sing-alongs. The songs from Hello Sadness sound bigger and bolder than their recorded counterparts; indeed, when at a Los Campesinos! show, sadness has never sounded so damn good.
