Tonight: El-P at the Echoplex

By Farhaad Esfandiary

If you can make a connection between “Linda Tripp” and “Madden 2004” that doesn’t have anything to do with blowjobs and football, then you need to be at The Echoplex in Los Angeles on June 28th. Underground Hip-Hop icon El-P, and Dungeon Family all-star Killer Mike have teamed up to bring us a union of abstract thuggery dubbed the Into the Wild Tour, which also features newcomers Mr. Muthafuckin Exquire, and Despot.

No doubt this tour was born from the critical acclaim garnered from El-P’s Cancer for Cure (Fat Possum Records), and Killer Mike & El-P’s collaborative effort R.A.P. Music (Williams Street Records). El-P’s surrealist raps and out-of-this world bangers, combined with Killer Mike’s sociopolitical commentary, and southern influenced, 808 heavy contributions from El-P are going to make for, if nothing else, an interesting time. I’m coming out of rap show retirement for this one. Don’t miss it, y’all.
