Today, Matt and Kim release “Let’s Go” (iTunes), the first track off Lightning, their upcoming album out this fall on FADER Label. Recorded and self-produced in Brooklyn, “Let’s Go” is the band’s first original music to be issued in 2012. Following the track’s release, the band will play select summer events across the US, including the Catalpa Festival on July 29th at Randall’s Island in NY.
Matt and Kim were last seen closing out 2011 at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on New Year’s Eve. The show was the grand finale to a wildly successful 16 months, during which the band toured the world and released their third full-length, Sidewalks. The album soared immediately to #1 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and to #3 on the Top 200 Chart. Sidewalks received accolades from SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, and Billboard as Matt and Kim garnered appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Last Call with Carson Daly.
In January of 2012, Matt and Kim disappeared into their home studio where they’ve been hard at work capturing the music for Lightning and building a new stage show.
“We spent the winter here in NY locked in our place on Grand Street,” said Matt Johnson of Matt and Kim. “When not watching Game of Thrones or Downton Abbey, we were self-producing and recording our new album Lightning. We are SO proud of each and every one of these songs that we are going to roll out a few of them over the course of the summer. So here it is, the first song from Lightning, titled “Let’s Go”. Just for us, put this on your iPod, get in the car, roll your windows down, and turn your stereo up!”
Take a listen to “Let’s Go” on Soundcloud or in the “official first listen video” (no, it’s not one of those lame lyric videos, we promise) on YouTube (or watch it below)
Following last week’s release of their 5th studio album Synthetica, Metric will take over the Jimmy Kimmel Live! outdoor stage tonight to perform a few songs from the album which made an impressive #12 debut on the charts. Set your DVR’s – Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on ABC at 12/11c.
Filmed during overlooking The Gorge at the Sasquatch Music Festival, NPR has presented a stunning acoustic version of the album’s title track for their “Field Recordings” series. NPR says “Stripped of an electric guitar and moody reverb, Metric singer Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw perform a version of “Synthetica” pretty enough to challenge the sweeping sunset behind them.” Check it out here: http://n.pr/L5lJfo
