With the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ latest single, “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” claiming the top spot on Billboard’s Alternative chart this week, the Los Angeles quartet have surpassed their own record for the artist with the most Number One singles in Modern Rock radio chart history with 12. The track is also No. 1 on both the BDS and Mediabase charts.

The band’s previous Number One Modern Rock tracks are 1991′s “Give It Away,” 1993′s “Soul to Squeeze,” 1995′s “My Friends,” 1999′s “Scar Tissue”, 2000′s “Otherside” and “Californication,” 2002′s “By the Way” and “Can’t Stop,” and 2006′s “Dani California,” (which spent 14 weeks at No. 1 and is one of three songs in the history of Billboard’s Alternative Chart to debut in the top spot), “Tell Me Baby,” and “Snow (Hey Oh).”

“The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” is the first single from the band’s upcoming tenth studio album I’m With You, which will be released in the U.S and Canada on August 30th and varying dates internationally through Warner Bros. Records.

Recorded at East West In Los Angeles and Shangri-la in Malibu, CA, I’m With You was produced by Rick Rubin, who produced the band’s previous five albums, “Stadium Arcadium” (2006), “By The Way” (2002), “Californication” (1999), “One Hot Minute” (1995), and “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” (1991). The album was mixed by Andrew Scheps and Greg Fidelman.

They will also perform at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on August 24th before traveling to South America in September for several shows, including a headlining stint at the Rock in Rio Festival in Brazil on the 24th. International music sensation Pitbull just off an unprecedented national television launch including The Voice Finals and the biggest crowd yet for this Summer’s Today Show Concert Series continues to dominate the charts this week as “Give Me Everything,” the second single from his critically acclaimed album Planet Pit, climbs to #1 on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream and Rhythm charts. A global phenomenon, the smash hit went #1 in the UK and reached the Top 10 in over 15 countries.

The growing success of “Give Me Everything,” which features Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer, builds on the momentum started by the album’s first single, “Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor),” a Top 10 smash at Rhythm and Top 40 last fall. The massive popularity of these singles has fueled anticipation for the arrival of his sixth studio album Planet Pit, which was named “Best Party Album” by Entertainment Weekly. The New York Times said “Pitbull, now more important than ever, and more popular, thanks to his irrepressible new album” and The Washington Post said “Planet Pit is its own future Greatest Hits package.”

Tailor-made for summer’s sunny days and endless nights, the album pulses with relentless rhythms and rapid-fire rhymes, featuring contributions by pop music luminaries such as Planet Pit’s next single with Latin Megastar Marc Anthony in “Rain Over Me”, others include Jamie Foxx (“Where Do We Go), Chris Brown (“International Love”), and Kelly Rowland (“Castles Made of Sand”). Planet Pit also includes appearances by some of today’s hottest artists, including T-Pain and Sean Paul, plus top producers like Dr. Luke, David Guetta, Max Martin and Afrojack.

In just two years, Pitbull has compiled an impressive record by notching four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Hey Baby,” “Give Me Everything,” “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “Hotel Room Service.” Pitbull has also demonstrated his massive crossover appeal with “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “Hotel Room Service.”

In addition to the highly anticipated release of Planet Pit, Pitbull just released his first application for the iPad. Produced by Roba Interactive, the app will provide fans with interactive liner notes that include high-end audio and video, interviews, text, photos and more. Later this year, Pitbull and his live band will tour U.S. arenas with Enrique Iglesias and special guest Prince Royce. The tour begins September 22 in Boston and will visit nearly 20 cities before ending October 22 in Miami for what promises to be a triumphant homecoming show for Pitbull.

Canadian band My Darkest Days had a dream, that their debut single on Mercury Records, “Porn Star Dancing,” would be played in stripper clubs across North America and go to #1. The dream comes true this week, as “Porn Star Dancing” rises to #1 on the Active Rock chart with a radio audience of 8 million and digital sales topping 200,000 copies.

“Porn Star Dancing” is the lead track from MY DARKEST DAYS, the self-titled debut album from the Ontario-based band. Next week, they head out on a month of shows opening for Oklahoma City’s Hinder. Dates begin November 18th at Austin’s Saloon in Liberty ville, Illinois, and wrap up December 18th at the Diamond Ballroom in Hinder’s hometown. (Please see complete itinerary below.) This is the first major tour for MDD since their August-September U.S. dates with Sick Puppies (and later Hinder and Godsmack) in support of the September 21st release of MY DARKEST DAYS.

A tribute to hard-working strippers everywhere, “Porn Star Dancing” was co-produced in Vancouver by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, who signed My Darkest Days to his production company, Mountainview Records. Adding to the excitement, “Porn Star Dancing” is making the rounds in two different versions, both featuring cameo appearances by Kroeger: a rock version with guitarist Zakk Wylde, and a hip-hop rap mix featuring Def Jam labelmate Ludacris. “Luda totally killed it,” says MDD guitarist and lead singer Matt Walst. “We sent the song to him, he dug the track, and his rhymes are just awesome.”

My Darkest Days – Matt Walst (vocals, rhythm guitars), Brendan McMillan (bass, backing vocals), Doug Oliver (drums, backing vocals), Sal Coz Costa (lead guitar, backing vocals) – built a strong Canadian after tours with Theory Of A Deadman, Papa Roach and Three Days Grace, whose bassist Brad Walst (Matt’s older brother) has always been a staunch supporter. In addition to “Porn Star Dancing,” other album highlights include “Come Undone” (country twang with sassy vocals from another labelmate, Jessie James); the autobiographical tales “Every Lie” and “Like Nobody Else”; “Fucked Up Situation” (adding some small town S&M adultery to the mix); the X Files-inspired “World Belongs to Me”; and the album’s closing, flick-your-cell phone arena-rock anthem, “Without You.”

The song was produced by Danger Mouse and the winning video was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. The video can be seen at the band’s web site,
Aside from “Tighten Up” and a cover of the Jerry Butler classic “Never Gonna Give You Up,” the songs on Brothers are written, performed, and produced by The Black Keys. The Black Keys’ iTunes Session is currently available exclusively on the iTunes Store. Recorded live in studio in August, the 10-song digital album includes songs from Brothers as well as “Your Touch” from 2006’s Magic Potion and “Chop and Change,” which was featured on the soundtrack of this year’s blockbuster film Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

After becoming the fastest-rising single at pop radio in more than four years, Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” has shattered another record by scoring more than 13,000 spins in one week for the second consecutive week on both the BDS and Mediabase charts. “California Gurls” has become the all-time Mediabase Top 40 airplay record holder with 13,167 spins in one week — an average of 92 spins per week at a pace exceeding 13 times per day.

“Katy has set records and turned radio upside down,” says Greg Thompson, executive vice-president for promotion at Capitol Records. “This track has broken all-time spins records, and achieved massive Hot 100 audience numbers of historic proportion.”

“California Gurls,” the first single from the two-time Grammy-nominated pop sensation’s upcoming album Teenage Dream, has indisputably become the summer anthem of 2010. An irresistible, hook-filled clarion call to throw on Daisy Dukes and a bikini top, the track has spent 3 weeks at No. 1 at pop radio (setting the record for the quickest ascent to the top spot since Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” in May 2005) and made the biggest leap to No. 1 since Mariah Carey’s “Shake It Off” in September 2005. It has also spent 8 weeks at No. 1 on the iTunes Singles chart. “California Gurls,” which features Snoop Dogg, has also set records for Perry’s label Capitol Records, enjoying the fastest ascension to No. 1 at Hot AC ever for a Capitol artist and the quickest rise to No. 1 for one of the label’s artists’ tracks since Bobbie Gentry’s “Ode to Billie Joe” in 1967. Last week, “California Gurls” reached an audience of 140 million, also the largest ever for a Capitol artist. It is expected to reach an audience of 150 million Hot 100 listeners this week.

“California Gurls” is just a taste of what’s to come when Perry unleashes Teenage Dream, which will be released by Capitol Records on August 24th in the U.S. and Canada; and August 30th in the rest of the world.

Philadelphia trio GOOD OLD WAR has scored a #2 Heatseeker debut this week with their self-titled, sophomore album. Upon release, the album leapt to the #1 slot on Amazon’s overall digital chart, also making its way to #1 on iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.

A devout fan base and online buzz has propelled the release’s momentum. The band has had two successful live performances on Ustream, drawing as many as 20,000 viewers. A fan contest has seen supporters posting tracks on social networks, hanging homemade flyers in student unions and creating awareness on platforms like Twitter. The band also performed several in-stores for retailers, including Best Buy and Portland’s Music Millennium.

The album, which contains “songs filled with tight harmonies, jangly guitars and memorable, country-tinged melodies” (Rolling Stone), is one of a handful that are leading a rock music renaissance in Pennysylvania. Philadelphia Weeklyremarks that Good Old War is “poised for a breakthrough on a national level.”

Much of the band’s success is owed to their intense touring schedule, which now finds them in the middle of a thirty-date headline run. Seattle Weekly notes, “After two albums and a couple hundred shows, Good Old War has turned into an immensely promising effort. In some ways, the trio could be Philadelphia’s answer to Fleet Foxes .”
