We all know that every year the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame votes in five nominees from their eligible list. While it is a good idea to keep the club exclusive, they’re clearly neglected some of the biggest artists/bands out there. Jeff Miers of The Buffalo News recently wrote an excellent piece on those artists that have been snubbed. Looking at his list, I’m puzzled as to why Depeche Mode, Kiss and Iron Maiden haven’t been inducted. Now, I don’t love Iron Maiden or Kiss but I respect them and their place in rock history. Seriously, what the fuck is going on Jann Wenner (founder of the HOF and Rolling Stone Magazine) and the other music critics. Hell, even rock critic Joel Selvin refused to vote because of the lack of quality candidates. F you Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. You need more relevant people on your “nominating committee”. Each one of you is over the age of 55 and probably wouldn’t even know a good band if it slept with your daughter or even better granddaughter.

Everyday there’s someone out there butchering a Journey song whether it’s a karaoke bar or in their car or a high school. Most likely they’re singing “Don’t Stop Believin”, the ultra mega hit that was revived when it was played on the closing moments of the tv show The Sopranos. To think, the chance to sing that song in front of a huge crowd and get paid for it, get paid to be Steve Perry, would be one of the best jobs in the world. Do not tell that to Arnel Pineda, the current lead singer for Journey. Pineda used to sing for a cover band called The Zoo in the Philippines until Neal Schon (Journey’s guitarist) found some of The Zoo’s covers on Youtube. Pineda joined the band after an audition and went on to record an album with the band (new songs and rerecording previous hits). After being on the road and away from home for so long, Pineda wants out. He misses his girlfriend and his kid (and realizes that he’s in an 80s tribute band jk). Pick up the new Rolling Stone for more on the story or go here. We all know that this is Steve Perry’s revenge. The Perv is still waiting for the day that Mr. Perry comes back and reclaims his throne as “Rock-God”. Check out some videos of Pineda singing with his old band The Zoo and with Journey.

With the news that MTV’s TRL will be airing its last episode in November, The Perv has decided to start a tribute to TRL by picking the top 5 rock videos from every year of TRL’s existence (1998-2008). Each week we’ll put up 5 clips, let us know if you agree or disagree. To the best of our knowledge, these videos were all out in 1998. Enjoy.

Foo Fighters – Everlong

Smashing Pumpkins – Perfect

Lenny Kravitz – Fly Away

Blink 182 – Dammit

Shirley Halperin over at EW.com recently spoke with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington about the band’s future, the VMA’s and Chester solo album. Chester blasted MTV for being too young and pop-oriented

  • “Where were Foo Fighters and Nickelback?”
  • “Or even a band like Three Days Grace, who had a pretty big year? There was no Vampire Weekend or Daughtry. It was very one-sided.”
  • “I think the VMAs have completely lost touch with a broad scope of music. It was very bubble gum and Disney, which is why bands like Foo Fighters, and everybody else in my group weren’t there. Honestly I didn’t think we were going to win, because we literally felt like we were too old.”

This is nothing new to the rest of the world. There was no post from us about the VMAs because frankly, we were watching paint dry (far more satisfying than the VMAs) until Entourage came on. This might be the year the VMAs officially died. Britney Spears is back and no one cares. There was no interest from the rock community. I’d say go watch Fuse but even they show a lot of crap and old movies that have nothing to do with music. If you wanna watch music videos, you go to youtube. If you wanna listen to music, you download it or listen to internet radio like 1.FM or XRM or one of them music choice channels (unless you pay for satellite radio, hehe.. suckas). Anyways, if you want to read more, check it out here.

This dude who writes for The Delco Times in Philly is complaining about how Rage Against The Machine fans are young, angry violent white boys who ruin everyone’s time. He points out how chicks were raped during Woodstock ’99 while RATM, Korn and Limp Bizkit played. I think it’s a bit unfair to Rage fans. I mean, they’re not really Rage fans but stupid white kids who drive Audis and spend mommy and daddy’s money on rims, cranberry vodkas, and their “hoe” of the week. These people still exist but they listen to even shittier music than Rage. So don’t blame Rage fans, blame White America. Btw, I am not black but I hate white trash and those spoiled brats, especially the ones who listen to the band’s CD in the parking lot before the band goes onstage.
