EMI Music recently announced the launch of Electrospective, an impressive multi-platform campaign celebrating the development of electronic music since 1958. Electrospective is a global collaboration between artists, labels, commercial, technological, digital and media partners.

Electrospective brings together the EMI Music, Mute, and Virgin catalogues, chronicling the key works of visionaries like Kraftwerk and Brian Eno as well as the ground breaking success of Depeche Mode and The Human League, the explosion of electronic dance music in the late 80s, and the rise of global stars like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers. The campaign features big name artist participation (David Guetta, Carl Cox, Midge Ure, Martyn Ware, Daniel Miller etc), live events, newly created merchandise, magazine / tech brand partnerships and promotion via branded online and social media platforms. There will be a host of opportunities to discover and rediscover electronic music in the coming months including exclusive key artist, DJ and producer interviews, app launches, merchandise, social and print media activities.

EMI Music will also launch an Electrospective radio series hosted by KCRW Music Director and host of “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” Jason Bentley, chronicling the rich electronic catalogs of EMI Music, Mute, Virgin, and Astralwerks, featuring in-depth interviews with electronic dance music visionaries. The Electrospective radio series will debut nationally in October.

Both a compilation and remix album for Electrospective was released on October 9th, 2012. The compilation album, Electrospective: Electronic Music Since 1958, ranges from the earliest days of technological innovation at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop through to the rise of current dance music superstars including David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia. Simultaneously, Electrospective: The Remixes – A Collection of Rare Electronic Mixes, reinvigorates dance staples from the likes of Daft Punk and OMD with new twists by artists like SBTRKT.

Coming this fall, a series of 4 exclusive EPs will be globally available via Beatport.
David Rowe, EMI Music’s Vice President of Global Campaigns, said: “EMI has enjoyed more than 50 years of success with electronic music artists and labels, as demonstrated by the depth and breadth of the albums featured in the campaign. With Electrospective we have a unique chance to work with the genre’s biggest names in order to share this inspiring story with fans on a global level.” As the third most popular music genre in the world, according to EMI Music’s consumer research, dance/electronic music has a truly universal reach.

Electrospective will encourage electronic music fans to engage with and delve deeper into the genre as well as appeal to a whole new audience of music fans.

21 years since the release of their debut album Leisure in 1991 and due to popular demand, Blur’s body of work has been personally compiled by the band and gathered together in one box released last month on Parlophone.

All seven studio albums are collected with over 5½ hours of unreleased material including 65 previously unreleased tracks and more than twice as many rarities, 3 DVDs, a collector’s edition book featuring rare and unseen photos and a new and exclusive interview with the band, and a special limited edition 7-inch vinyl featuring a track recorded under the band’s original name, Seymour. The box also includes a digital download code for the albums and all bonus material.

The collection – which sees the first 5 albums re-mastered by Frank Arkwright in Abbey Road Studios – has been fully overseen by Graham Coxon and producer Stephen Street.

Highlights of the box include early versions of tracks recorded for Leisure, bare bones early demos of the classic singles ‘For Tomorrow’ and ‘Beetlebum’, previously unheard songs ‘Saturday Morning’ and ‘Hope You Find Your Suburbs’ and never released sessions with Bill Laswell and the legendary session with XTC’s Andy Partridge. Other rarities are ‘Don’t Bomb When You’re The Bomb’, ‘The Wassailling Song’ and ‘Fools Day’ which appear on CD for the first time. DVD material includes Live at Alexandra Palace 1994 and Live at Wembley ‘The Singles Night’ 1999.

In addition to the 21-disc Deluxe Box Set, all 7 studio albums will be available individually, each with a second disc of b-sides, previously hard-to-find tracks and exclusive bonus material.

A vinyl box set will also be available, with six of the seven albums on double-vinyl, highlighting iconic artwork and visuals from Banksy, David Shrigley and Graham Coxon among others. The vinyl box set will include a download code to access all of the bonus material digitally. Each of the 7 LPs will also be available separately on heavyweight vinyl.

Blur’s 7 studio albums are: Leisure (1991), Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993), Parklife (1994), The Great Escape (1995), Blur (1997), 13 (1999) and Think Tank (2003). (THIS IS WHAT WE’RE GIVING AWAY!)
