For those of who were born before the 1990s, one fond memory many of us shared was taking a Polaroid picture with a Polaroid camera, pulling it out and shaking it so it would dry. Polaroid pictures were the only photos that instantly came out from the camera without the need to go to a film developing center. Newer Polaroid cameras still have the same great quality and distinctive border that Polaroid pictures are known for but don’t require “shaking” as it can actually cause damage.

A few weekends ago at the Pitchfork Music Festival, crowds swooned to sets by Pavement, Big Boi, LCD Soundsystem, Neon Indian, Robyn, Modest Mouse, and many more. A photography crew from Polaroid were on the scene to document the performances as well as gather a series of intimate, candid shots of festival attendees enjoying the events. Check out this collage of Neon Indian by Brad Klemmer from the festival. To see collages of Beach House and Big Boi (both also by Brad Klemmer) and more, be sure to go to Facebook.com/Polaroid.

Now onto the giveaway. One lucky reader can win a Polaroid 300 camera with a roll of Polaroid instant film! The Polaroid 300 camera is pretty sweet and frankly, we might ask to borrow it from you. If you wanna win, just email us at theaudioperv@gmail.com (with the subject: GIMME MY CAMERA!) with your name, and we’ll email you back asking for your mailing address if you win! (US only!)

It’s not required but you might increase your chances if you:

1. Click to “Like” Polaroid on Facebook
2. Click to “Like” The Audio Perv on Facebook
3. Follow Polaroid on Twitter @Polaroid
4. Follow us on Twitter @theaudioperv

Oh yeah, also tell us your Twitter/Facebook handle so we can check. Good luck!

We love to give away cool music all the time on our site. We especially love giving away vinyl! Today, we launch a giveaway where one lucky reader will win Mean Creek‘s The Comedian 7-inch (Old Flame Records). One even LUCKIER reader will not only win The Comedian but also a 10″ white vinyl copy of Active Child‘s Curtis Lane EP (FILTER US Recordings)! Read below about both bands and how you can win these awesome records!

Active Child is the new project from choirboy-turned-indie pop musician Pat Grossi. The influence of chorale singing, along with the sensibility of non-secular music, is as apparent in Active Child’s work as the influence of cherished pop bands like New Order, Joy Division and Tears for Fears. Active Child’s debut collection of songs features the skilled use of various ’80s-tinged synths to create ethereal, soaring soundscapes punctuated by crisp electronic drum samples and handclaps. All of this lays the groundwork for Grossi’s exquisite vocals which, with their unearthly sound and evocative lyrics, take on an enchanting, hymnal quality that would not be out of place amongst the richly colored sunlight of a church’s stained-glass interior. Active Child’s songs are an intriguing study in contrast. The organic elements of Grossi’s angelic vocals and the occasional delicate strumming of a harp cast light on the eerie darkness created by the haunting synths and cavernous reverberating of percussion.

Active Child - She Was a Vision

an ideal soundtrack to icy winter nights and stumbling around messy warehouse parties, Grossi’s new wave synths and dreamy vocals soar above lo-fi detailing to produce echoey pop anthems.” – NME

… all very glacial and gloomy in the best possible sense.” – THE GUARDIAN

These songs feel climactic, durable, far greater than the sum of their parts. If this guy can almost get you to dance to harp songs, just imagine what he might be capable of creating.” – PITCHFORK

Old Flame Records (Cloud Nothings, Twin Tigers, Dead Confederate) recently released the new two-song 7-inch titled The Comedian from Boston’s Mean Creek. Produced by the famed John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady, etc.), The Comedian is a raw and powerful display of the popular epic rock band’s repertoire. After releasing two full-length albums and touring the US and UK with numerous national and international artists, the band decided it was time to take some time off to work on new material this past winter, material that is now being showcased on The Comedian.

Featuring everything from hushed dynamics to hard-driving rhythms with singer/guitarist Chris Keene’s vocals that resonate like a pleading holler keeping everything together, Mean Creek is a band that uses both current touchstones and their throwback tendencies to create music that is familiar yet fresh. Voted “Best Band In Boston” by the readers of The Boston Phoenix in their 2010 Best Music Poll and deemed a “melodic tour de force” by The Boston Herald, Mean Creek has been turning heads on the local and national level recently with their sound that SPIN Magazine online has described as “a sharp blend of country-core.”

On Tuesday, July 20th, The Young Veins will perform songs from their recently released album Take a Vacation! on the rooftop of Atlas New York, at 66 West 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The Young Veins are part of Gotham’s fourth annual OpenA.I.R: Artist In Residence concert series, which kicks off next week. Gotham has infused new meaning into the phrase ‘Artist In Residence’ by offering Atlas New York’s 48th floor Sky Terrace as an alternative and original music venue for up-and-coming and major label artists, with the Empire State Building as the perfect backdrop. Last year’s series included a performance by Lady Gaga.

Primarily the musical project of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker from Panic! At The Disco, The Young Veins recently released their acclaimed debut album Take A Vacation!. Produced by Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet) and Rob Mathes (Panic!, Carly Simon, Lou Reed), this collection of songs brilliantly re-imagines some of the most enduring musical styles of the ‘60s, including surf rock, psychedelia and brit-pop. Laced in a dreamy California spirit, Take A Vacation! exudes warmth and joyful energy, but it is Ryan and Jon’s undeniable knack for songcraft that makes these songs irresistible. This exclusive live event comes at the end of a wildly successful summer U.S. tour with Rooney.

For this event, The Young Veins are teaming up with Oxfam America, a non-profit organization that is known for collaborating with musicians and bands like Coldplay, WILCO, and Arcade Fire to create a global movement to overcome poverty and injustice.

The press raves:
“…equal parts salty and sweet, heavily indebted to the past, unbelievably catchy… In other words, it’s pretty much everything I could ask for in a rock record, and then some.” MTV

“The Young Veins has legs of its own to stand on. And arteries that are chock-full with the blood of past masters.” – SPIN Magazine
