Pocket Vinyl is an aspiring piano-based rock band coming out of western New York. Centered around the unique piano slamming of Eric Stevenson, Pocket Vinyl has had a rotating cast of members over the years. Eric has been playing piano since he was a small child, curiously exploring the instrument from a young age. Starting in 2004, he found Pocket Vinyl and has spent hours upon hours in the studio with friends recording many hours worth of material. His craft has been fine tuned and continues to grow in fascinating directions. He’s been gathering influences from all over the place, taking hints from Ben Folds Five to Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes to Tom Waits. Whether Pocket Vinyl is a full band or a solo act, the stage is always filled with passionate yelps, miles of energy, and a man pressing his fingers down on a piano much harder than he probably should. Another very intriguing characteristic about Pocket Vinyl is their 2010 live show, which features a live on-stage artist, Elizabeth Jancewicz, creating a painting while the music is being played. The anticipated sophomore release “Protagonist” was released on June 15, 2010, and is sure to open the eyes of many to a fresh and unique sound in the musical landscape.

Legendary rock icons The Steve Miller Band have released have released a brand new studio album. A true return to Miller’s roots, BINGO! echoes his early years in the Chicago music scene and features carefully chosen and crafted tracks performed in distinctive Steve Miller Band fashion.

Co-produced by Steve Miller and engineer Andy Johns (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix), BINGO! is the first of two albums recorded at George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch. The sessions introduced new band member Sonny Charles, a veteran vocalist of the Checkmates, who will also be on the road this summer with Miller. These were the final sessions by harmonica player and vocalist Norton Buffalo, Miller’s “partner in harmony” for 33 years, who died of cancer in October 2009.

BINGO! is now available in 2 formats from both Amazon
and iTunes: a 10-track digipack CD and a special edition with 4 bonus tracks and expanded artwork. The album’s artwork is a creation of Storm Thorgerson whose album packages for Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd are the gold standard in artistic design. BINGO! is a fully realized mature work of a master craftsman, and in a sense, the album Steve Miller has been waiting to make all his life.

Rolling Stone – “Steve Miller returns to his blues roots and gives BINGO! the slick party-pop vibe of classic Miller like The Joker and Fly Like An Eagle.

In support of the band’s release, Steve Miller will be the featured guest on the nationally syndicated radio show ROCKLINE with host Bob Coburn on Wednesday June 16 at 8:30pm PT / 11:30pm ET. Want to get in on the action? Be sure to call to speak with Steve toll free at 1-800-344-ROCK (7625). The broadcast will be available for two weeks on the Rockline website beginning the evening of the 17th.

We’re just starting a new feature over here on The Audio Perv called Unsigned Spotlight where we’ll try to let you know about an up and coming band or artist who’s ready to explode or they just make some really cool music. Today, we focus on Scarlet Grey. Learn about Scarlet Grey below:

Pieced together from the states of California, New York and Washington, pop-rockers Scarlet Grey now collectively hail from Los Angeles. Members Benjamin Grey (lead vocals/guitar), Keith Cooper (drums/vocals/production), Pete Emperador (bass/vocals), and Cole Martin (lead guitar/vocals) released their debut album “Black” in US and Japan in 2008, but are now gearing up for the release of their newest product, “Fancy Blood.” Boasting the same signature classic songwriting, larger-than-life melodies and pop resonance as its predecessor, “Fancy Blood” embodies all that has made Scarlet Grey a southern California powerhouse, and an online global commodity. Not only does the new record feature guest appearances by AFI’s Davey Havok and production work by Jade Puget, but the four-piece have been supporting AFI on tour in preparation for the summer release of “Fancy Blood.” Having previously played with the likes of Saosin, Yellowcard, Rooney, After Midnight Project and others, Scarlet Grey are no strangers to the stage, and are poised to win over all who lend them an ear.

Pick up Fancy Blood on iTunes, Amazon MP3, or buy the CD at any Scarlet Grey show or at their merch store

Jason Castro’s self-titled debut is out today via Atlantic Records! Head over to his official site to watch a special release day video blog straight from the season 7 American Idol alum. Jason will be supporting the album on the road when he embarks on his first major, headlining tour which kicks off April 17th in his hometown of Dallas.

Be sure to tune in to The Ellen DeGeneres show on April 22 to catch a performance of Jason’s single “That’s What I’m Here For” and check out some album reviews below.

Entertainment Weekly:
The American Idol season 7 finalist’s debut album comes on like an early spring day. You can feel the sun shining through hummable tracks like “closer,” but hints of a harsher season remain on “It Matters to Me” and the heartbreaking “You Can Always Come Home.” (FYI: The deluxe version, with six extra tracks, is well worth springing for.)

US Weekly:
Dreadlocked Jason Castro gently strummed his way to fame as the third runner-up on American Idol’s 2008 season. The singer and guitarist’s debut album offers more samples of his light, Jason Mraz-esque pop sound, and includes his lauded Idol version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” And Castro, who just wed longtime girlfriend Mandy Mayhall in January, fills much of the CD with tender lyrics about love.

Jason Castro Deluxe Track List
1. Let’s Just Fall In Love Again
2. This Heart Of Mine
3. That’s What I’m Here For
4. Heart Of Stone
5. If I Were You
6. You Can Always Come Home (feat. Serena Ryder)
7. Love Uncompromised
8. Closer
9. All Wrapped Up
10. It Matters To Me
11. Hallelujah
12. Let’s Just Fall In Love Again (Acoustic Version)
13. Sweet Medicine
14. Over The Rainbow

New York-based band THE VANGUARD have just released their second EP – aptly titled PLAYTIME! – on April 13th. PLAYTIME! continues to build on the foursome’s unique brand of fun-inducing indie-pop. Eloquent lyrics, big hooks, sing-along choruses and memorable melodies are VANGUARD standards, and PLAYTIME! does not disappoint.

To celebrate the release of PLAYTIME!, The Vanguard will be performing a special CD release show tonight at Piano’s in New York City. Also catch the band performing an intimate in-store performance at the Best Buy in Union Square (NYC) on Thursday April 15th!

Though THE VANGUARD has established itself firmly as a New York City band, the odds were not in the Big Apple’s favor. Perhaps the most unique characteristic of the band is its varied ethnicities. Aaron Lloyd Barr (vocals) is from Damascus, Virginia. He is joined by David Zawadzki (guitar/keys) of Przemysl, Poland, Rasko Ristic (bass) of Belgrade, Serbia and Luciano Rovner (drums) of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Together they form THE VANGUARD, a band that has truly been able to meld their individual influences and experiences from different corners of the earth into an art form.

Internationally, people have begun to take notice. THE VANGUARD played six noteworthy SXSW 09 showcases and topped it off with an overseas journey to the Exit Festival in Serbia as well as a UK tour. Stateside, their video for the first single, “Both Sides,” has been in rotation on mtvU. Even SPIN.com calls the band buzz worthy due to its “bubbling melting pot of sounds, influences, and ethnic backgrounds.”

Pick up PLAYTIME! on iTunes or buy the CD at http://www.thevanguardband.com/

After months of pinching pennies and milking overtime pay, The Press
pulled together some cash and hunkered down at The Fort in Bushwick to
document their most recent batch of songs in what will be their fifth
release with Goodnight Records since 2005. It was only after the final
mixes were agreed upon however, that the band realized that the album
later to be titled INTEOTWIJTEOAE (pronounced in-tee-aught-whit-e-ay) is,
above all, an album of transitions. There are songs of events smoothly
overlapping, the old fading casually into the new, while other songs
capture the violent, sparking convergence of profound, uninvited change.
There are stripmalls and subways, security gates and jackhammers,
termites and Entenmann’s snacks, volcanoes, jellyfish and thimbles. There
are no lectures here, however; there is sympathy and reverence for every
subject addressed, and every assertion has a qualifying foil, often penned
by an alternate band member. The Press’ commitment to collective
improvement is suggested in the band’s self-described genre “Co-Op
Rock.”

Buy INTEOTWIJTEOAE here or on iTunes. Take a listen to the album here.

Check out some reviews below as well as videos for the singles “Master” and “Jellyfish Wrangler.”

Knocks from the Underground(10 out of 11 score) INTEOTWIJTEOAE, is a
true gem in the muddy swamp of Brooklyn music…It is impossible and
unfair to label this group as just one thing…This band has far surpassed
boundaries other bands shy away from, meshing seemingly unconnected
sounds in surprising and supremely satisfying ways.

The Deli (INTEOTWIJTEOAE review) - a real artistic statement … Combining
flamboyant pop exuberance, punk melodies and the occasional moment
of delicate beauty, they step out from the crowd of recent baroque pop
bands …..giving every track a distinctly Press-like feel. Take the album’s
single ‘Master’. ..it’s outrageously busy for a pop song, but still incites manic
arm-waving and fist-clenching joy on every listen

Fader/Tripwire“Bless this Mess” – one perfect song you’ll want to kick
most days off with from this day forward

Charleston Post & Courier (review of NSB EP)- …so [The Press] created one
of the most innovative and provocative records of the year. Standing
somewhere on the edge of genius and insanity, The Press spits out an
explosively disruptive sound that is peacefulness and unease, but catchy
singles remain intact.

NOW Magazine Toronto (NXNE Preview)Their chances for success are
high and their up-tempo, unpretentious and fun, fun, fun pop melodies
are catchy enough to spark and spread like wildfire…
