Let’s get our Friday really going with a new song from Majestico. The brainchild of singer/guitarist Graham Fitzpenn, Majestico, released their new 7″ EP Love Is God last month on Jeffery Drag Records. We’re extremely excited to premiere the track “Bright White Lady” from the EP. A mix of Rolling Stones and the Kings of Leon, “Bright White Lady” will have you swinging your legs around all day long.

Here’s what Fitzpenn had to say about the song “Bright White Lady is about an alien/angel encounter I had after a show. I had just gotten off the stage and a “lady” approached me and took my hand. I looked into her eyes, time slowed, and softness formed around. We talked with our hands still clasped, but it was of relatively little importance because the sounds we made were as if we were under water. Our real communication was telepathic and was about love. Mainly about how much we loved each other. She was the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. She hasn’t come back yet, but I’ll keep waiting. “

We hope that all of our friends and readers who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy are safe. Aside from some heavy winds and a bit of debris, we’re A-OK.

Back to the music! If you were with us at CMJ, you surely caught The Dead Ships’s excellent late night set. We’re thrilled today to premiere their rendition of the late Levon Helm’s “When I Go Away.”

The Dead Ships played An L.A. Ramble for Levon benefit last May. The band had such an awesome time at the show that they decided to respectfully put the Dead Spins stamp on a few of Levon’s songs.

Take a listen to “When I Go Away” below (as well as the original later)

Tegan and Sara premiered “Closer,” the lead single off their forthcoming studio album set for a January 2013 release.

“Sara calls CLOSER my ‘let’s get it on’ track” Tegan explains to Rolling Stone. “And although I do imagine that this would be an okay song to make out to, all I intended was to write something sweet that reminded the listener of a time before sex, complicated relationships, drama and heart break. In short, I was writing about my youth. A time when we got CLOSER by linking arms and walking down our school hallway or talked all night on the telephone about every thought or experience we’d ever had. It wasn’t necessarily even about hooking up or admitting your feelings back then. In fact THAT rarely happened. It was the anticipation of something MAYBE happening that was truly exciting and satisfying. We were perpetually getting CLOSER, yet we rarely got physical with one another, if ever. These relationships existed in a state of sexual and physical ambiguity. Is there anything more romantic than that?”

On their new album, Tegan and Sara worked in the studio with Greg Kurstin (The Shins, Lily Allen, Sia), Mike Elizondo (Regina Spektor, Mastodon, Rilo Kiley), and Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Neon Trees, M83, Moving Units). During the new album’s creation, Tegan and Sara brought their fans along for the ride by offering an inside look at the process of recording through Tegan and Sara’s Carpool Confessional, a weekly video show filmed from the back of their car and featuring a wide variety of guests and collaborators.

In addition to a handful of headlining shows and a performance at Austin City Limits, Tegan and Sara have some massive tours coming up with the likes of The Black Keys and The Killers. A full list of tour dates is below.

Titus Andronicus is comprised of: Patrick Stickles (singer/songwriter/guitarist), Eric Harm (drums), Julian Veronesi (bass), Liam Betson (guitar) and Adam Reich (guitar). Austin punks …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have announced the follow-up to last year’s Tao of the Dead. Titled Lost Songs, the band’s eighth full-length is out October 23 via Richter Scale/Superball Music. Check out a cut, “Up to Infinity”, which the band has dedicated to Pussy Riot. Frontman Conrad Keely said:

“The music was inspired by the apathy to real world events that has plagued the independent music scene now for over a decade. “Up to Infinity” is about the Syrian civil war. We believe that tyranny and despotism suffered by any people, anywhere, is intolerable and should not be treated as an internal matter, but completely justifies intervention by the international community.”
