Friday night I went to go see Scott Weiland perform at Irving Plaza in NYC (screw “Fillmore NY”, you’ll always be Irving to me!). Man.. the show SUCKED. I expected Scott to go on late. He was scheduled for 11pm. I got there at 11:30. Scott came on at 11:45 after fans were booing and starting annoying JETS chants. Scott was messed up as usual but I think more high than drunk. The band didn’t sound together at all. I wasn’t impressed with Doug Green’s guitar playing and Scott was just flat for most of the night. Songs from Scott’s first solo album sounded much better live than the second one. If these solo shows prove one thing more than anything, it’s that Scott sounds his best when only singing Stone Temple Pilots songs. At least he made time for a crack on Axl Rose. There’s a review by the Atlantic City Press of the show the next night here.

T.I. took a few minutes out of his christmas shopping schedule to play a show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City the other night. As usual, T.I. was solid and we have video evidence for you below. We also have a brief review for you via All That’s Fab (Videos below review)

Thanks to Power 105.1 FM I got a chance to work and attend the TI concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom last night. The show was amazing and extremely entertaining…This was truly TI at his best..

TI is a very good performer. He performed hit after hit..To top it off he is really a nice guy behind the scenes. But once he gets on that stage he becomes a totally different person. I guess he becomes TIP on stage. He comes off so hood fab..Slim was actually the opening act, I heard he wasn’t that great, but since I didn’t see it I won’t judge him. But the man isn’t that “slim” anymore from what I saw(lol)…

While TI was performing with his army of men on stage, he brought out Jamie Foxx. I was hype to see the Academy Award winner, but once he opened his mouth I was no longer excited. His vocals were not on point at all. He just didn’t have it together. Then he started beat boxing and tried to spit 16 bars lol..It was cool that he came out, but he didn’t make the show better or anything..

TI gave it his all during the entire show..He made you want to go home and listen to all his albums (which I did lol)..It’s just sad that he is on his way to prison. This concert was one of his last for a pretty long time. The money people spent to see him did not go to waste. I found out later that this was a sold out concert. All the TI fans from the tri-sate area came to see him..This concert was not on you wanted to miss. The best performance hands down was Live Ya life, I was sad Rihanna didn’t come out, but TIP made up for it.

So apparently Chris Cornell is not limiting his setlist to only songs off his new album “Scream” (which won’t be released till February btw). Cornell played Kool Haus in Toronto on Friday night (he actually sold the place out!) and he played a lot of his older more excellent stuff. Jane Stevenson from The Toronto Sun can tell you more about the show while I show you some videos. If you went to the show, tell us more about it here.

AC/DC played the Izod Center last night in East Rutherford, NJ. Yet another sold out show on this massive tour. I would’ve gone if tickets weren’t 100 dollars.. face value. Thanks to a bunch of cool people on message boards and youtube, we have the setlist, some videos and a link to an audio bootleg of the show. You can pull down the show here. Enjoy.

The biggest rock tour this fall across the country has been the “Macho Rock Your ****” tour (that’s the unofficial name) with Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown and Saving Abel. Sure, Staind/Seether/Papa Roach are touring together but this lineup is just slightly better. Kate Darby from the Courier Press was in attendance for the Roberts Stadium show in Evansville, Indiana. From what the review tells us, it was a kick ass time. Check out the videos below and read the rest of the review here.

A wave of nostalgia crashes over me as I listen to the first track “Underneath The Stars”. The instrumental build-up and the sweeping crescendo of other legendary album openers. It reminds you why you love The Cure. This would be a great song for them to open a show with (Checking The Cure’s setlists from their tour this year, it turns out that they have been opening with this song).

Although I was merely a baby when The Cure were at their peak, I became a fan thanks to the influence of my sister, who loved Robert Smith, the lead singer of The Cure. Robert Smith’s aching, emotionally wrought voice is still there. It carries the first half of the CD. The second track “The Only One” brings back memories of older Cure songs like “Friday I’m In Love”. A surprising standout track is “The Real Snow White” which wasn’t released as one of the album’s four singles. It’s a bit of an attempt at modern emo/pop rock which somehow carries. It feels like All American Rejects if they were more mature. Otherwise, the first half of the album hits the same emotional chord and seem to blend together except for “Freakshow” which has a bit too much cowbell. Unfortunately, the second half of the disc is mostly filler where the band seems to have grown bored with the whole dream theme. It sorta just drags on without any real direction.

It’s hard to listen to a Cure album and do anything else because the music does dominate and commands your attention. I had to drive around for an hour twice to fully accept the album. This record is The Cure formula at work trying to go somewhere new. It almost seems as if Robert Smith is happy. We like that.

B+ for nostalgia
C+ for creativity
B- for overall enjoyment

Recommendation: Borrow your friend’s copy or buy it cheap.

AC/DC took a break from being old to play back to back sold out nights at Madison Square Garden in New York City this past week. Errol’s Weekly was there and gave a great review of the show where you feel like you were there. And if you weren’t, you can watch the videos below to get a better idea. Enjoy.

One of the better rock tours coming around the area has been with Staind, Seether and Papa Roach this fall. Stephanie Caltagirone from the Reading Eagle was att one of their most recent stops at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Check out the review and videos below. Enjoy

MGMT played Nottingham Rock City last week and contactmusic was there. I gotta be honest, I tried to make it through the review but it seemed more about the band making it than about the show. It’s really useless except for the 9/10 score. Anyways, here are some videos from the show.

Jack’s Mannequin is the brainchild of Andrew McMahon from Something Corporate. Andrew is a cancer survivor and The Audio Perv gives him big props for that because we know someone close to us that’s also a cancer survivor but also because Jack’s Mannequin’s music doesn’t suck. Anyways, the band has been touring with fun. (Nate from The Format. Btw, we were one of the first sites to cover fun. about three months ago) and Treaty of Paris (cool band that The Audio Perv has worked with before) and they’ve been selling out most of these shows. On Monday night, they stopped by The Grog Shop in Cleveland and The Cleveland Leader was in attendance to tell everyone about it. We have videos for you below the setlist:
