Upon first listen, Katie Costello’s incredible upcoming release Lamplight (Tiny Tiny Records, February 22) is all soulful melody and tapping feet. Exceptionally sultry and soaring vocals weave their way into currents of piano, each tune brimming over with a sound you might expect from times past – but don’t get us wrong, everything about Katie Costello is oh-so-today and immediately exciting. On second listen the lyrics start to jump out at you, swishing swiftly through your ear drums, into your brain and flowing through your blood until they plant themselves firmly into your heart. Upon third and fourth and fifth listen, the record comes together in the same way every great album does, in the moments when you find yourself on an empty street, iPod blasting as you dance recklessly along in the rain doing bell kicks over puddles, happily sheltered under a big black umbrella or when you find yourself on the subway, alone, singing along, out loud.

At the young age of fifteen Katie began to pursue her passion for melody and started work on her debut. She self-released Kaleidoscope Machine at just seventeen to critical acclaim and found immediate champions in the likes of KCRW’s Nic Harcourt who added her songs to regular rotation and music licensors who loved her original sound and old-timey vibe and snagged her tracks for shows like 90210, One Tree Hill and Private Practice. A Christmas baby, she celebrated the holidays that same year with her family and the day after her eighteenth birthday left her Los Angeles home for good and travelled solo to New York City where the young songstress set up shop and began to weave the magic that is Lamplight.

Often compared to A Fine Frenzy, Adele, Regina Spektor and Sixpence’s Leigh Nash, Katie is breaking every mold and proving herself to be a leader for the next generation of songwriters and a serious triple threat – incredibly talented, absolutely stunning, and smart as a whip. A dangerously thrilling combo indeed!

Track listing for Lamplight:

1. Cassette Tape

2. Ashes Ashes

3. After Dark

4. No Shelter

5. Despite Times

6. Out Of Our Minds

7. Fading Lately

8. Dig A Hole

9. Old Owl

10. People: A Theory

11. The Weirds

12. Stranger

Dirty Wrecked is the debut album by Esteban. A collection of 13 songs drenched in addictive pop hooks, Latin and African beats and rock guitars celebrates a lifestyle of music, art, brotherhood, parties and touring. The groove is infectious, the sweeping melodies and soaring harmonies irresistible.

Early supporters include Alex Lester at BBC R2 and Tom Robinson at BBC 6 Music. Total Guitar, recognizing guitarist Liam’s unique fingerpicking style, featured Esteban as ‘Ones To Watch’. The band’s music is featured in the forthcoming Hollywood political comedy Below The Beltway.

With touring firmly in their blood, Esteban have appeared alongside Dizzee Rascal, The Zutons, Friendly Fires, The Cuban Brothers, Gomez and the Young Knives. With festival appearances and sell out club dates, Esteban have earned their reputation as an amazing, exciting live act. It is on the road live where you will be captivated by Esteban’s search for “the last party on the last beach… out there… somewhere…”

The four friends all come from Burton-On-Trent, a small town in the East Midlands. While backpacking in Bali they got caught up in the terrorist attacks of 2002, decided that life’s too short… and formed a band. Esteban started gigging locally, things grew and in 2010 they played 200 shows. Going on holiday to Miami, singer Steve recalls that it was great being able to put down “musician” as his profession on the landing card.

Esteban are true artists. Dirty Wrecked is an amazing collection of songs. The road trip continues.

“There’s no one else like them out there.”

“I Don’t Know How To Act Here” MP3

Teletextile is the creation of multi-instrumentalist (Harp, Piano, Violin, Guitar) and vocalist Pamela Martinez. A follow up to a previous release Care Package, the Reflector EP was recorded with her primary band members Caitlin Gray (Bass, Guitar, Vocals) and Luke Scheiders (Drums, Bells), as well as friends Brian Hamilton (Cymbals Eat Guitars), Aynsley Powel (Tigercity, St. Vincent), Elliot Krimsky (Glass Ghost), and Dave Sheinkopf (The Subjects). Producer Al Carlson (Games, Oneohtrix Point Never, St. Vincent) helped work the boards as they recorded through most of the first half of 2010. The dreamy soundscapes alternate between delicate plucking of the harp strings to a adorned voluptuous sound, all making the bed for Martinez’ boundless vocals.

A San Antonio, TX native, Martinez began her love affair with the musical arts at a young age. Family sing alongs alternated between her mother and grandmother’s love of Ettta James, and her father’s affection for George Harrison. When her punk rock aunt would baby sit, the two would watch The Labyrinth and Hairspray on repeat, fostering her affection for the stranger more festooned side of life, art, and music. After attending University in Boston, in 2007 she moved to New York where she worked with the group So Percussion. Through that experience she met the likes of Matmos, Paul Lansky, Tristen Perich, Zeena Parkins, Lesley Flanigan and others. All composers that used both electronics and acoustic instruments in their music, the relationships she formed in those early days in the city remain an influence in the present.

Reflector represents the latest step in Teletextile’s unfolding journey towards self-discovery, and the listener is encouraged to come along for the ride. Martinez’ sites one of her main motivations of creating and playing music as finding a way to replicate the experience of dreaming. “You should want to close your eyes when listening to music,” she says, “it should be your own story, your own vision.”

LA rockers The Darlings have come a long way since their inception in 2005. After beating out hundreds of bands to win this year’s Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, the Darlings had their song “What Lies Below” picked up by the Anaheim Ducks, who used the track for their 09/10 season promo spots on Prime Ticket. The band’s song “Let’s Roll” has also been in steady rotation on influential LA modern rock station KROQ’s Locals Only show for months. In addition to taking part in the Vans Warped Tour for the third time last summer and securing endorsements from Ernie Ball and Hart & Huntington, they hit the road on tours with Pennywise, Strung Out and Guttermouth. On November 11th, the band will open for punk rock legends Face to Face at Anaheim, CA’s House of Blues.

The Darlings latest release, The New Escape melds the individual members’ classic rock and punk influences into a hearty dose of honest and pure, rock and roll that steers clear of trends and posturing. Stand out songs include “Let’s Roll” “Hypnotize” “Untitled” and “Broken Heart Still Beating.”

The New Escape was recorded by at Z Studios and Tao Creations in Los Angeles and was produced/recorded/mixed by Ed Faris. Guest musician’s include Donnie Nemarnik of Tiger Army who plays pedal steel guitar on “Head Hunter” and Jayson Cruz of Strung Out who provides back up vocals on “Where Do We Go.”

Tiny Engines is pleased to announce that it will release Here We Are Tomorrow, the newest 7″ EP from Kent, Ohio’s Annabel.

Slated for an “official” release of December 14th (actual release = whenever copies of the record show up on my doorstep), the EP is now available for pre-order from the label.

Produced, recorded and mixed by Annabel front man Ben Hendricks and mastered by Tim Gerak (of Six Parts Seven), Here We Are Tomorrow contains four brand new songs – plus a 5th bonus digital-only track – and will be pressed on blue (300) and maroon (200) vinyl. Packaging will feature printed polybags, hand-screened / numbered inserts and each copy of the 7″ will come with a free mp3 download code. To secure one for yourself, go here.

Annabel is currently streaming the first track from the 7-inch, “The Forgetting Of Names And Faces,” on its myspace page. The song is also available for download as part of Punknews.org’s recent The Fest 9: A Free Compilation (Volume 1).

Ratcheting up the the immediacy quotient tenfold and tapping into an even more aggressive, urgent punk spirit, Annabel’s newest five-song offering provides a seemingly endless supply of exclamation point moments. Here We Are Tomorrow is a potent mix of the band’s most sweetly innate qualities, as well as the formidable talents it has developed along the way: engrossing melodies, a kinetic pulse and an underlying warmth and honesty that simply can’t be faked. It’s clear that the Annabel has blossomed into a singular songwriting force and fully intends on making a definitive statement with this magnetic EP … and that statement resonates longer and more emphatically than ever before.
