On November 13th, !K7 Records will release Mudhoney: Live In Berlin, 1988 on DVD. The footage, filmed by a professional camera crew at 1988′s Berlin Independent Days festival and only recently rediscovered, captures the Seattle Grunge pioneers’ first ever performance on foreign soil. Playing as representatives of Sub Pop Records to a crowd of curious punters, critics and members of Europe’s independent music community, the show was also the first Grunge gig in Europe, laying essential groundwork for the genre’s subsequent global domination.

The official trailer (Watch on Vimeo) for Mudhoney: Live In Berlin, 1988 provides a sneak preview of the over 40 minutes of concert footage from the history making show. Featuring one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll groups of all time at their very best, a glorious mess of flailed hair, acidic caterwaul, gnarly riffage and fried guitar skronk as Mudhoney tear through material from their epochal (but then unreleased) Superfuzz Bigmuff EP and eponymous debut album.

The DVD also features an exclusive bonus interview with Mudhoney front man Mark Arm, recorded especially for the release of the DVD this summer in Seattle. Liner notes for the DVD were written by renowned journalist Stevie Chick.

How To Destroy Angels is a collective from Los Angeles composed of Mariqueen Maandig, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Rob Sheridan. An Omen EP will be their debut release on Columbia Records, available November 13th digitally and on 12″ vinyl.

Today, How To Destroy Angels shares a letter on Facebook explaining the band’s plans for the future:

“Sorry for the radio silence lately… I’ve been busy! There’s a number of things to be revealed over the coming months. Some you may expect, others you may not. Patience, my friends.

Today’s news is about my band How To Destroy Angels. I’m happy to announce we’ve formally partnered with Columbia Records for our next series of releases. The first of these will be available in November and it’s called An Omen EP. As you may have guessed, it’s an EP. It contains six songs, some of which are from our full-length LP which is coming early next year.
We are making some videos, we are going to be performing live, and that’s all the details I have for now on those matters.

Regarding our decision to sign with Columbia, we’ve really spent a long time thinking about things and it makes sense for a lot of reasons, including a chance to work with our old friend Mark Williams. There’s a much more granular and rambling answer I could give (and likely will in an interview someplace) but it really comes down to us experimenting and trying new things to see what best serves our needs. Complete independent releasing has its great points but also comes with shortcomings.

We are all very excited about you checking out the new stuff. Wish I could tell you more, but you know how this works… it would take all the fun out of it!

Stay tuned! —”

Seattle’s Soundgarden will release King Animal, the band’s first new studio album in over 15 years via Tom Whalley’s new record label, a partnership between his Seven Four Entertainment and Republic Records, on November 13th, 2012. The album’s first single, “Been Away Too Long” will be available via digital retailers on September 27th. The band co-produced their sixth studio album with longtime Soundgarden friend and producer Adam Kasper (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam) and recorded at Studio X in Seattle. King Animal was mixed by Joe Barresi (The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer) in Pasadena, California.

With two GRAMMY ® award wins, seven overall nominations and over 21 million records sold worldwide, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. At the dawn of 2010, the band, Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, announced a new beginning. In the last three years since Soundgarden has reunited, they released their first retrospective, Telephantasm, which was certified platinum, their first live album, Live on I-5, penned the end title song, “Live to Rise,” for the feature film The Avengers which went to No.1 on Modern and Active Rock radio, and headlined sold-out shows and festivals around the world. Now, comes the band’s first collection of new songs since the 1990′s.

The writing and recording of the album was a true collaborative effort. Riotous album opener and first single “Been Away Too Long” finds Soundgarden back at it with a double-edged blast of homecoming celebration and urban angst. King Animal can be explosive, as in “Blood On The Valley Floor,” nightmarish (“Worse Dreams”) or wistful (“Halfway There”), leading us through changing sonic landscapes that can embrace both the jazz inflections of “Black Saturday” and the feral rocker “Attrition,” with compelling lyrics by bassist Ben Shepherd. The subject matter is broad – Kim Thayil’s lyrics for “Non-State Actor” are a sharp and cynical take on the powers behind political thrones, while Cornell’s bruised and introspective “Bones of Birds” explores the terrors and vulnerabilities of parenthood.

Soundgarden remain a truly ‘alternative’ band as they embark on the next chapter of their journey, steadfast in their roots with 15 years of growth behind them. King Animal follows the musical evolution of one of the world’s most groundbreaking bands. As the BBC put it, they are “a band beyond lazy labels and genre limits.” This is a long awaited return for both the band and fans alike.

Schools, a Bowling Green, Ky.-based rock quartet led by songwriter Jeremi Simon, is preparing for the release of its eponymous debut album. Bred from the thriving music scene that birthed crowd-pleasers Cage the Elephant and Sleeper Agent, Schools is the latest Bowling Green band to perk the ears of Grammy-winning producer Jay Joyce.

Simon was a solo act prior to forming Schools with Russell Brooks (guitar, keys and vocals), Joey Bennett (bass) and Daniel Marlowe (drums), and made fast fans of Cage the Elephant, who personally suggested his music to Joyce.

“The first time I heard Jeremi sing, I was drawn to the honesty of his lyrics,” Joyce says. “The delivery was sad, but had an underlying sense of humor that I think is missing in a lot of today’s songwriters.”

Schools recorded the album, featuring 10 original songs, in Joyce’s Tragedy/Tragedy Studios in Nashville, Tenn. Like his songwriting hero, Neil Young, Simon’s songs demonstrate a broad range of musical ability and a strong sense of lyrical honesty.

Whether it’s the energetic punk vibe of “Think I Might Be an Alien,” or the haunting feel of the ballad “Beautiful Disaster,” Simon always wears his heart on his sleeve when writing songs.

“They’re very personal,” Simon says. “It’s describing what I was feeling or dealing with in a way that’s not really straightforward. I put my own spin on it. It’s a glimpse of what’s in my head.”

In the time leading up to the album‘s release, Schools has been playing its biggest shows yet, including a stop at the 2012 SXSW Festival.

While the band is excited to see what waits on the horizon, Simon is just as eager to sit down and write his next song.

“I can tell when I’m about to start writing a lot of songs,” Simon says. “It’s this weird feeling I get, and all of sudden I start coming up with all these ideas. I love it. It’s like having a baby or something.”

Schools Track List:
1. All The Time
2. Bones for Meat
3. The War
4. Paper Hearts
5. Think I Might Be an Alien
6. Beautiful Disaster
7. Engineer
8. If I Wake Up
9. Say What You Wanted To Say
10. Big Dumb Head
