On March 11th at 5pm, 92.3 K-Rock NY (WXRK) died. It switched formats and there is no true rock radio station anymore in NY. RXP’s way too indie and Q104 is just way too old. K-Rock was a big part of my life growing up. I’ve been to so many of their “Low Dough” 92 cent shows, their DFP (Dysfunctional Family Picnic) concerts, and had grown to love the only true modern/classic rock station in the area. Sure, it sucked a little bit after Howard Stern left. Then it changed into talk radio which sucked even more. Then we got it back in May of 2007 but it was the diet coke version of K-Rock. It wasn’t the same.. like that friend you have who moves away but comes back. You’re glad to have them back but you can tell that they’ve changed. I even had the opportunity to be part of a focus group last year for the station and emailed the PD at the time all my thoughts on how to improve the station and some of them were actually used!
Anyways, this post is a tribute to K-Rock. Thanks to everyone who was there from Booker to Will Pendarvis, Cane and Cabbie, Howard Stern, Tom Chiusano, Razz, Julie Slater, Danni, Altar Boy, Dead Air Dave, Ian Camfield, Schwenker, Nik Carter and everyone else who helped shape the soundtrack to my life (wow, that kinda sounded lame, sorry).
