Following what can only be described as the Rock’n'Roll comeback story of 2011, Anthrax will kick off 2012 with round two of a U.S. co-headline tour with fellow thrash titans, Testament. The dozen-plus dates that come on the heels of the bands’ five-week Fall trek that packed venues from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, will kick off in Las Vegas on Sunday, January 22 and will take in some fifteen cities over a three-week period (dates listed below). Anthrax will close all shows and Death Angel will again be main support on all dates.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10 at 10AM local time. For all details or to purchase tickets, log onto http://anthrax.comhttp://www.testamentlegions.com/ or http://deathangel.us/ Can’t wait until this weekend to grab tickets? These bundles are available for a limited time only. Additional details online.

“The first leg of the tour with Testament and Death Angel was an amazing way to end a great year for Anthrax,” said Anthrax’s Scott Ian, “and it went above and beyond my expectations! Sold out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances! So we figured what better way to start 2012 than to continue this thrash-fest into the new year!!! Thank you all for giving us this privilege to come and play for you. See you soon!”

The first leg of the Anthrax-Testament co-headline jaunt marked the first time the two bands had toured together in more than a decade, and proved to be a rousing success with reviews such as, “This line-up of thrash metal masters is what most metal heads’ wet dreams are made of.” Minneapolis’ City Pages summed the show up this way: “Metal…is alive and well and will continue to be as long as Anthrax has anything to say about it.”

Twenty-eleven proved to be a watershed year for Anthrax – Charlie Benante/drums, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano/guitars, Frank Bello/bass, Joey Belladonna/vocals. On September 13, the band released its long-awaited Worship Music, Anthrax’s first new album in eight years and first studio album since 2003′s We’ve Come For You All. Worship Music features the return of “classic era” vocalist Belladonna making his first Anthrax album in twenty years. The album debuted at #12 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, has received stellar reviews and been called “the metal album of the year” by numerous critics and music tastemakers, including VH-1/That Metal Show’s Eddie Trunk, and Alexander Milas, editor of the UK’s Metal Hammer. Worship Music has also landed on copious amounts of “year-end-bests” lists, and the editors of Loudwire named it their #1 Metal Album of the Year, with the track “The Devil You Know” claiming the #1 Metal Song of the Year honors.

The return of Belladonna and Anthrax’s remarkable renewal began in 2009 in a Cleveland hotel bar with Anthrax’s Benante and Ian, and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich when he first brought up the idea of The Big Four – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, the four bands that served as the original architects for the “thrash/speed-metal” scene,” yet had never shared the same stage before. The first of (so far) fourteen Big Four events took place on June 16, 2010, culminating in what was Anthrax’s New York homecoming concert – The Big Four at Yankee Stadium on September 14, 2011, the day after Worship Music hit stores. “We came into The Big Four as the underdog,” said Benante. “We were the band that had the most to prove, and we’ve worked really, really hard to do that.”

There are a handful of epic concerts. The Beatles’ US arrival at Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965, just one year after the METS’ former home base first opened. There’s Queen’s momentous “Live at Wembley Stadium” on July 12, 1986. Billy Joel was the first artist to perform at Yankee Stadium in the nearly 70-year existence of the Bronx, NY ballpark on June 22, 1990. (U2, Pink Floyd would follow suit in the latter ’90s.) Today, September 14, 2011, has likely earned its place in the concert history books as the biggest night of hard rock at the New York stadium. Fans flooded in the standing room field and sealed in the terrace, grandstand, bleachers and beyond to witness the first-ever heavy metal concert at Yankee Stadium when the mostly Bronx-born Anthrax along with Megadeth, Slayer and headliners Metallica practically blew the roofs off the new house that Ruth originally built last night.

Appropriately fit for such an historic event, each band pulled out nearly 10 classics with the headliners heaving even more in their nearly two-hour set. Promptly opening the night, Anthrax started it all just after 4pm flipping through nine classics, including “Got the Time,” “Caught in a Mosh” and “I Am the Law.” Earlier in the day another historic event took place when Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz named September 14 Anthrax Day—for the band, who have three members, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Rob Caggiano, that hail from the outer borough. Like clockwork, Megadeth continued to shake the stadium discharging some old and new with “Symphony of Destruction,” “Peace Sells,” closer “Holy Wars” and a track from their 12th studio album, Endgame, “Head Crusher.” Singer Dave Mustaine, who recently had neck surgery and wasn’t supposed to perform, still managed to shriek out lyrics in his unique way. In as top a form as they could be with Mustaine’s other physical therapy (arm) over the past few years, the band pleased thousands even if the stadium hadn’t yet reached its full capacity for the night. Despite more injuries via Slayer (singer Tom Araya’s back surgery last spring) and a flesh-eating disease (necrotizing fasciitis), which put the band’s long-time guitarist Jeff Hanneman out of commission this tour, their show went on with Exodus’ Gary Holt filling in the slot. Deafeningly pounding through 14 songs, anyone without ear plugs during Slayer’s set may have experienced some early ear ringing, or bleeding, with chanters like “Raining Blood,” “Hate Worldwide” and closer “Angel of Death.”

Araya spoke intermittently thanking the crowd for their presence and to recognize Anthrax’s earlier anointment in the Bronx before reminding the audience that Metallica were about to “lay waste to the area.”

No strangers to fantastical stage settings, even the excitement of Yankee Stadium took Metallica by surprise. Singer James Hetfield repeatedly told the audience he couldn’t believe he was there. Slightly humbled, the band’s excitement spilled into a lengthy, 18-song set. Metallica had a special night in store.

Opening with scenes from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” with Ennio Morricone’s score “The Ecstasy of Gold” playing loud, the band walked right into a set list of classics, including 1984’s “Creeping Death” from second album Ride the Lightning. Three more Lightning tracks would pop up, slit between some Master of the Puppets, …And Justice for All, Metallica, even Reload’s “Fuel” and two tracks from 2008’s Death Magnetic. Metallica work like a well-oiled machine. After all, when you have four bands that have been around 30 years on average (with the exception of Megadeth two years shy), no one should expect anything less. Appropriately reaching into the past, Metallica paid homage to late bassist Cliff Burton with Puppets instrumental “Orion.” “In our hearts, a spirit remains to Cliff Burton,” said Hetfield before moving into “One.”

An all-star metal cast came out in the end for an encore of a 1979 metal classic, Motörhead’s “Overkill,” with Hetfield incorporating his best Lemmy vocals with help from Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna fronting the rest of his band along with Holt and Megadeth’s Dave Ellefson. All mimicked a super group moment earlier in the week when members of Anthrax, Down’s Phil Anselmo (Pantera), Ellefson, drummer Mike Portnoy and others joined forces at the Best Buy Theater for a joint jam out during the Metal Masters Clinic. Following the ensemble up with Puppets’ “Battery,” Hetfield asked “New York do you need another song” as the band throttled into their only track from debut Kill ’Em All, “Seek & Destroy.”

Thrash titans Anthrax and Testament, who haven’t toured together in more than a decade, are set to co-headline a U.S. tour beginning Friday, October 14 in Grand Rapids, MI (itinerary below). Anthrax will close all shows, and Death Angel will be main support for the entire tour. The coast-to-coast trek will figure to decimate more than two dozen cities over a five-week period, with both Anthrax and Death Angel debuting brand new material from their new albums, both set for summer/fall release; Testament’s new album is set to be released in 2012. Buy tickets now at www.anthraxarmy.com, or http://anthrax.com, http://www.testamentlegions.com/, or http://deathangel.us/

“We’ve been tight with the guys in Testament for a long, long time,” said Anthrax’s Charlie Benante. “so we’re really looking forward to hanging out with them on the road. And all of us in Anthrax are big Death Angel fans, so this is going to be a monster of a good time – for all of us and for the fans. Plus, with the incredible success of The Big Four shows over the last year, we wanted to tour with some of the ‘second wave’ of thrash bands.”

The tour will follow Anthrax’s Big Four “hometown” appearance at Yankee Stadium on September 14, with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth.

“We’re excited to do this tour because Anthrax was actually the first band we ever toured with,” adds Testament vocalist Chuck Billy. “It’s an accomplishment 20 odd years later that we’re going to do it again. The tour kick-off date is actually about five days difference from the kick off date of the first tour 20 years ago. The first time we performed with Anthrax, we only had a total of ten songs, so obviously now we have many songs to pick from so it will be very different. It’s good to see that a lot of the faces in the bands are the same as back when we first did this original tour 20 years ago.”

Worship Music, the long-awaited new studio album from Anthrax, one of the four original architects of speed and thrash-metal, has been confirmed for a September 13 release date on Megaforce Records, it is announced today. Appropriately, Worship Music will street the day before the band’s triumphant return to their native New York to play at Yankee Stadium as part of The Big Four concert extravaganza.

Not only is Worship Music Anthrax’s first studio release in eight years, but the album marks the return of vocalist Joey Belladonna, whose last studio work with the band was 1990’s Persistence of Time. Belladonna is now firmly back in the Anthrax line up with drummer Charlie Benante, guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano, and bassist Frank Bello.

“Getting Joey back in as our full-time, permanent singer solidified us as a unit like we hadn’t been in years,” said Ian. “All of us were on the same page creatively, working together, writing together, and becoming a band again.”

“I get goosebumps listening to the new music,” Benante admitted. “Scott and Rob’s guitars are absolutely on fire, Frankie kicks butt on bass, and hearing Joey sing, well, the band sounds like Anthrax – Joey’s back and it’s great.”

Added Ian, “This record is filled with not just four years of our lives, but with our lifetime in the band. It encompasses it all, and when I listen to the record, I can hear all the energy and love and hate and pain and laughter that went into this.”

The 11-track Worship Music was produced by Anthrax, Rob Caggiano and Jay Ruston and recorded over a four-year period at studios in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Belladonna’s return to the band prompted some of the songs originally recorded to be re-crafted with fresh lyrics or tweaked to better suit his overall vibe and energy. Some of the songs were completely replaced with brand-new songs and, of course, all have Belladonna’s inimitable vocal stamp on them.

“We had the unusual luxury of hindsight with this album,” Ian explained. “We were able to live with the songs we originally recorded, look back on them and see what we really loved about them and what we could make better.”

“I’m very happy with the record, it sounds like Anthrax,” said Belladonna. “There are some interesting twists and turns on it, and plenty of tunes for fans to get their fingers on. I felt very comfortable working with Jay Ruston, and I think everyone brought to the table what they needed to. Now it’s time for the fans to listen and get what they’ve been waiting for. I’ll tell you, I’m really excited.”

Worship Music is loaded with stand-out tracks. While “Judas Priest” is a nod to the huge influence that band has had on the members of Anthrax and metal heads everywhere. “I’m Alive” is beautiful and grand with a build that demands audience participation. “Crawl” is dark and moody, and filled with a lot of the emotion and stress the band was feeling when it was written. “Fight ‘em ‘til You Can’t” is a song about killing zombies, and who doesn’t love a good zombie song? It’s the one new track that Anthrax has played live since they started touring with Belladonna a year ago, and has been getting tremendous audience response. The song “Earth on Hell” is classic Anthrax thrash. “The Devil You Know” is best-described as “an AC/DC groove filtered through an Anthrax lens,” while “In The End” is epic-sounding and Anthrax’s way of remembering the late Ronnie James Dio and Darryl “Dimebag” Darryl.

“’In The End’ does have a melancholy feel,” confessed Benante, “and when we play it live, Ronnie and Dimebag will be right there with us on stage.”

And just where did the title Worship Music come from? “One night, many years ago, I fell asleep with the TV on,” explained Benante. About four or five in the morning, I woke up, picked up the remote and pulled up the digital program guide. There was a show on called ‘Worship Music,’ and I thought ‘what a great title for an album.’ Most heavy metal fans worship their favorite bands, metal heads are so loyal to metal, going to a concert is like going to a house of worship. ‘Worship Music’ said it all.”

When Anthrax first started Worship Music, they had no idea if the music would ever see the light of day, but they carried on because making music is what they do, it’s in their blood. According to Ian, “It took everything in us as people to make this record and it shows. We went back to square one and did it for the same reason we did it back then, because we worshipped music and we still do. Music is something worth worshipping.”

Anthrax will support Worship Music with a massive world tour. Dates will be announced shortly. Check out Anthrax’s social pages to stay totally up to date with the band:

For the second consecutive year The ONE LOVE FOR CHI Organization along with the Slidebar of Downtown Fullerton will host a two-night benefit event coinciding with the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Convention Weekend in Southern California.

Since November 2008, bassist of modern rock pioneers DEFTONES, Chi Cheng, has remained hospitalized in what doctors have called a “minimally conscious” state. Since the accident, the One Love for Chi organization has banded together to help raise funds to meet the growing costs of Cheng’s medical bills. Rooted in a network of musicians all closely connected with Chi throughout his prolific career, this second annual benefit pulls together some of music’s biggest names, all to perform ‘reach-out-and-touch-em’ intimate performances, all in Cheng’s name.

In 2010, One Love for Chi held the first benefit at Slidebar during NAMM weekend and created a truly memorable event. Members of Korn, Suicide Silence, Dream Theater, Guns N’ Roses, Megadeth, Atreyu, and Cypress Hill were just some of the star-studded attendees who all participated in impromptu performances in a truly intimate venue. Part industry event, part concert, all celebration, the event proved a sweeping success and has become the catalyst for an annual event dedicated to the ongoing recovery of Chi Cheng.

Gearing up for the 2011 installment of the benefit, the bigger and better two-night engagement will feature performances from P.O.D., Dredg, Brian “HEAD’ Welch, Imani of The Pharcyde, Philm (featuring Dave Lombardo of SLAYER), The Accident Experiment, Southtown Generals, Eyes Set To Kill, Anew Revolution, and will be capped off by an all-star jam session featuring members of Anthrax, Atreyu, Papa Roach, Lit, Shinedown, and many more in attendance. The organic collaboration remains rooted in a sincere love for Chi Cheng and a genuine desire to do something to aid in his recovery.

A night of friends connected through music – everyone, both public and industry are invited to join in the festivities. To gain access into the venue to see the performances however, ONELOVEFORCHI.com is hosting an online auction via EBAY, with ALL proceeds going directly to Chi’s recovery. Packages of two (2) and four (4) tickets will be available.
