Billboard has just posted their “Year in Music 2010″ Feature, which includes the Hot 100 Songs, Artists of the Year, and top songs/albums in a number of different genres, including Rock, Pop, and Country.

“Billboard’s year-end music recaps are based on chart performance during the chart year that began with last year’s Dec. 5 issue and ended with the Nov. 27, 2010, issue. The year-end Top Artists list ranks the best-performing acts of the year derived from activity on two charts: the Billboard 200 albums tally and the Billboard Hot 100 singles list.”

Billboard announced that it is expanding its suite of chart offerings to include a new chart, the Social 50, presented by ZYNC from American Express, which ranks the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites. Rihanna becomes the ‘only girl in the world’ to top the Social 50 chart in its debut week, followed by Justin Bieber, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, respectively, to round out the top five. The full chart is available at

Serving as a complement to Billboard’s existing weekly rankings, the Social 50 chart will tally artists’ popularity using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays on MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and iLike. Data from these sites is gathered and provided to Billboard by social music tracking service Next Big Sound.

The Social 50 emphasizes friends/fans behavior above other activities, followed by artist page views and song plays. The final ranking also includes a unique metric measuring the ratio of page views to fans.

“The Social 50 provides a weekly snapshot of the artists that music fans engage with the most in the social arena, which in today’s world is a significant validation of their investment in an act,” says Billboard Chart Director, Silvio Pietroluongo.

“We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music,” says Billboard Editorial Director, Bill Werde. “The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times.”

“The volume of online activity that top artists now receive is too big to ignore,” says Next Big Sound CEO, Alex White. “We are thrilled that social music activity now receives the same emphasis as the music charts for which Billboard is synonymous.”

The Social 50 will appear alongside other popular charts on and every Thursday, and in Billboard magazine every week.

To celebrate the return of our favorite season, we’ve scoured the Billboard chart archives and compiled this definitive list of the most popular songs about summer ever recorded.

These 30 hot tunes with summer-specific themes are ranked based on each track’s performance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from August 4, 1958 — the inception of the chart — through the chart dated July 3, 2010. Buoyed by the success of standout single “Gold Guns Girls,” Metric’s smash-hit album Fantasies makes a triumphant return to the Billboard Top 200 at #162. This is the first time the album has appeared on the chart since its debut nine months ago.

In continued support of Fantasies, the band announces that they will hit the road for a short run of headlining dates, beginning March 17th in Tempe, AZ and wrapping up March 27th in San Diego, CA. See below for tour dates.

This summer, Metric will tour as a part of the traveling Lilith Fair, which will make stops nationwide. Also participating in the renowned festival are Mary J. Blige, Norah Jones, Tegan & Sara and Sheryl Crow, among many others. Dates to be announced.

The album includes previously unreleased music by artists such as Dave Matthews Band, Weezer, Linkin Park, The All-American Rejects, Alanis Morissette and others. Additionally, Metric is selling an original t-shirt with profits benefiting relief efforts in the country.

After the successful self-release of Fantasies on their own label Metric Music International, the band recently solidified a joint venture with Mom & Pop Music Company/Q Prime. The organization will help support Metric’s burgeoning career in America, while allowing the band to maintain the creative control over the recording and distribution process that they so value.
