Miley Cyrus will appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”tonight (Feb. 15), performing “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go,” her contribution to Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International. The collection is available as a 76-song digital edition, a 73-track 4-CD set and a 31-song Starbucks edition in the United States, where combined first week sales made it the nation’s No. 7 bestseller. It debuted at No. 4 in Canada and has charted in the Top 20 in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Austria, Norway and the Netherlands.

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” will continue its tribute to the work of Amnesty International with a series of performances by artists from Chimes of Freedom. Natasha Bedingfield will perform “Ring Them Bells” next Wed., Feb. 22, and Dierks Bentley and the Punch Brothers will perform “Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)” on an upcoming show (date to be announced soon). Mariachi El Bronx will debut their version of Dylan’s “Love Sick” on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Mon., Feb. 27.

On Fri., Feb. 17, Rise Against will premiere a video for “Ballad of Hollis Brown,” the band’s contribution to Chimes of Freedom, on YouTube, VEVO, MTV.com, VH1.com and fuse.tv.

“The ‘Ballad of Hollis Brown’ was about one farmer who falls on hard times,” says Rise Against’s lead singer, Tim McIlrath, “but I don’t think anyone from that time period could imagine how our entire agricultural system would fall on hard times. We wanted to make a video that would let the audience know that these problems aren’t exclusive to the time period Bob Dylan was singing about, and in fact they’ve grown exponentially. A farmer’s enemies aren’t just drought or floods anymore, they are now everything from over-powerful corporations to short-sighted immigration policies.”

NPR’s Ann Powers commented: “What I love about this set is the musical variety, and one strain is definitely punk bands picking up Dylan’s political fervor and one of my favorite examples is the band Rise Against (covering ‘Hollis Brown’).” “Dylan’s ‘Chimes’ still resonates across the decades,” observed USA Today. “Sinéad O’Connor recasts 1981′s born-again ‘Property of Jesus’ as a fiery church-reform anthem,” said Entertainment Weekly. “And Carly Simon smartly plays ‘Just Like a Woman’ as a feminist ballad.”

In the United Kingdom, Chimes of Freedom received four stars from both The Observer and Rolling Stone, with the latter noting: “despite the breadth of material, interpretation and interpreters, the standard of these tributes is almost entirely worthy of the occasion, with many artists stepping up and out of their comfort zone to find what they need.” The Sunday Times praised Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Morello and the Gaslight Anthem for their reinventions of “Outlaw Blues,” “Blind Willie McTell” and “Changing of the Guards” respectively while The Daily Mirror observed that Chimes of Freedom shows “both the richness of Dylan’s songwriting and how far and wide his influence has stretched.”

“The response to this collection is beyond anything we could have imagined – people around the world are abuzz with excitement,” said Helen Garrett, Amnesty International USA director of special projects and one of the album’s executive producers. “From the bottom of our hearts, we thank the musicians for their inspired contributions to this album, and their enduring commitment to human rights. The injustices and brutality in this world can seem overwhelming, but if individuals around the world band together – like the musicians on this album – we have a chance to turn the tide, and create a better world with human rights and justice for all.”

Don DeVito, a GRAMMY Award winning record producer whose 40 year career was astonishingly spent at the same label, Columbia Records, died in New York City on November 25th at the age of 72 after a 16 year battle with prostate cancer.

Don DeVito was born September 6, 1939 in Brooklyn and was ushered into the music industry at an early age. He was spotted on the street with guitar in hand by legendary rock musician Al Kooper of The Royal Teens, who had earlier found pop music success with the song “Short Shorts”, a #3 hit single in 1958. Kooper asked a very simple question of young Don, “Can you play that thing?” Days later DeVito found himself on the road as a touring musician. After a year with The Royal Teens, DeVito returned to school, earned a degree in English from Brooklyn College, and formed his own band, The Sabres. While on a cross-country tour, the band broke up, leaving DeVito stranded in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The break up proved to be quite serendipitous, as DeVito would meet Johnny Cash at the St. Joseph’s Orphanage. The coincidental meeting with The Man in Black would lead to a lifelong friendship between the two. It was not long before Cash introduced DeVito to Bob Dylan.

In 1967, DeVito entered the CBS Executive Training Program. His initial placement was in the sports division, but was soon transferred to CBS Records. DeVito was named the Local Promotion and Artist Relations representative for Miami. By 1971, CBS Records had become Columbia Records, part of Sony Music, and DeVito was transferred to New York City to head a new marketing department at the Columbia label. As part of his transition to this new role, Columbia Records president Clive Davis encouraged DeVito to spend more time in the recording studio with artists and producers. DeVito took the advice to heart and spent countless hours in the studio studying such artists as Bob Johnston, James Guercio, Jimmy Ienner, and Phil Ramone. DeVito’s knowledge of music and his studio experience grew rapidly and led to his increasing involvement and eventual move to the Artist & Repertoire (A&R) department at Columbia.

While in the A&R department DeVito worked with scores of musicians, including Bob Dylan. Among his many achievements with Columbia, perhaps the most noteworthy was luring Dylan back to Columbia from Asylum Records. Shortly thereafter, DeVito produced the iconic Dylan albums Blood on the Tracks and Desire, both which reached #1 on the Billboard charts. 1975 did not stop there for DeVito and Dylan. DeVito joined Dylan on tour, produced the music for his TV special, and subsequently was the producer of the albums Hard Rain, Street Legal and At Budokan.

In addition to his work with Dylan, DeVito was instrumental to the careers and success of Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Janis Joplin, The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, Aerosmith and Blue Öyster Cult. He was appointed Vice President of A&R for Columbia in 1976, and was named National Vice President of A&R in 1981. A five-time Grammy Award nominee, he won the award in 1989 in the category of Best Traditional Folk Recording for his work on the all-star tribute “Folkways – A Vision Shared: A Tribute to Woody Guthrie & Leadbelly.”

DeVito’s contribution to the music world extended far beyond the stage and the recording studio. He served on committees and was a board member of various organizations dedicated to the preservation and promotion of music including the New York Chapter of the Recording Academy, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee, and the Advisory Board of Folkways Music at the Smithsonian Institution.

One of DeVito’s proudest moments came in 2001 when, following the attacks of September 11, he played an integral part in organizing and producing The Concert for New York City, a globally televised concert event and a DVD and gold-certified CD release which raised over a million dollars for the Robin Hood Relief Fund. The concert featured performances by David Bowie, The Who, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Jay-Z and many more.

DeVito was known throughout the music business for his musical knowledge, generosity, and his skill in diplomacy, which may account for his longevity as an A&R man, a position not known for its job security. He retired from Sony Music in 2007. When asked what he would want to be remembered for, DeVito said without hesitation, “For devotion to the music.” Besides music, DeVito was an avid football and baseball fan, but above all was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on his boat, “Mama Tried.”

Although DeVito is no longer with us, his love of life and passion for music are carried on by his wife Carolyn and his two children, Marissa and James. DeVito has requested in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made in his honor to the Save The Music Foundation.

Highway 61 Entertainment and MVD Visual announce the release of Bob Dylan “Revealed” for worldwide DVD distribution (and VOD) on May 1, 2011 in conjunction with Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday.

When Bob Dylan turns 70 in May, his iconic career will have spanned five decades. Yet, a true portrait of the reclusive “voice of the generation” has eluded Dylan fans. Through exclusive insider interviews, and never-before-seen photos and footage spanning Dylan’s 50-year career, Bob Dylan Revealed offers an intimate biography of who Bob Dylan was, and who he is today.

Producer Jerry Wexler and award-winning songwriter Al Kasha provide an untold account of Dylan’s early days at Columbia Records in 1962. Drummer Mickey Jones chronicles the 1966 Bob Dylan and the Band electric world tour that changed Rock n’ Roll forever, while soon after, Dylan used the cover of a motorcycle accident to enter drug rehab. Dylan’s 1974 comeback tour is illustrated by tour photographer Barry Feinstein through his finest photos and behind-the-scenes accounts. In 1975, Bob Dylan hit the road with a rag-tag band of folk troubadours, culminating in “The Night of the Hurricane”. Folk legend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, violinist Scarlet Rivera, bassist Rob Stoner, and Rubin “Hurricane” Carter reveal the inside story of Dylan’s Desire album and Rolling Thunder Revue tour.

Following a stint as The Entertainer in 1978, Bob Dylan fell into the arms of the Lord through the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, producing three Gospel albums. Derided as “God-Awful Gospel,” Dylan’s radical new direction alienated fans and enraged critics. Pastor Bill Dwyer, journalist Joel Selvin, singer Regina McCrary, keyboardist Spooner Oldham, and Dylanologist AJ Weberman share intimate accounts of Bob Dylan’s “born-again” transformation – and his return to Judaism! Bob Dylan Revealed culminates with Dylan’s Never Ending Tour that began in 1992 and continues to this day, as drummer Winston Watson recounts his personal journey as a warrior in Bob Dylan’s “Never Ending Band”.

The album is currently streaming on MySpace at www.myspace.com/nevershoutnever, and Never Shout Never will also be performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Friday, September 3rd on NBC.

“Harmony” is the follow-up to Never Shout Never’s critically heralded debut “What Is Love?,” which bowed at No. 24 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, No. 2 on both the Alternative and Rock charts, No. 6 on the Digital Album chart, and No. 11 on the Internet album chart upon its release in January.

Also on the bill are special guests I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business and Carter Hulsey. Tickets are now on sale.

Check out www.nevershoutnever.com for details about all upcoming tour dates.

Never Shout Never’s Chris Ingle might have a love of the acoustic guitar in common with Bob Dylan, but Ingle feels most at home in a genre that even Dylan isn’t known for: acoustic pop. For this week’s Mashup Monday, a Ramones t-shirt clad Ingle has decided to apply his emo-friendly pop sound to Dylan’s classic, “It Ain’t Me Babe.”

“It’s really awesome that I got to play it today,” Ingle says of Dylan’s tune, which appeared on the 1964 album “Another Side Of Bob Dylan.” “It’s just a beautiful song. I feel like [it] set the standard for a lot of break up songs.”

CBS Records will release the second volume of a specially produced soundtrack for the hit television series NCIS on Tuesday, November 3. To coincide with the album’s release date, the November 3 episode of NCIS will prominently feature Bob Dylan’s “California” – a never-before-released track that originally dates from the Bringing It All Back Home sessions and has remained locked in the vaults until now. “California” has been newly mixed and mastered and is a true gem from one of music’s greatest artists. The remaining tracks will be placed in NCIS episodes throughout the current season, which ends in May 2010.

As they did with the highly successful first volume, NCIS: The Official TV Soundtrack, NCIS show producers listened to dozens of submitted tracks before choosing the ones best suited for upcoming shows. As NCIS Executive Producer Shane Brennan explains, “It was really gratifying to see the incredible response to our first soundtrack, and we want fans to know that we’ve put the same care and attention into assembling this new volume as we did with the first. So many great artists have contributed fresh material to this soundtrack, and the result is truly special.”
