LA public radio station KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) will celebrate the holiday season by bringing together some of our favorite artists for two nights of music at the intimate Orpheum Theatre, a newly-restored Downtown landmark celebrating it’s 85th anniversary this year.

The “Are Friends Eclectic?” concerts will take place on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 with different lineups each night and special guests. Proceeds will go towards supporting the station’s programming.

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff will headline on December 2, joined by the joyful pop sounds of Brett Dennen, LA’s favorite world fusion band Fool’s Gold, the slightly psychedelic, occasionally funky White Denim, the epic chamber pop of Oklahoma’s Other Lives – who just last week opened for Bon Iver – and the sensual and spiritual stylings of Mia Doi Todd.

The December 3 lineup features folk-rock renaissance man Sam Beam with his band Iron & Wine, along with the ear-pleasing harmonies of local favorites The Belle Brigade, jaw-dropping guitar and vocals from UK blues diva Anna Calvi, darling Malaysian pop crooner Zee Avi, and the homespun retro-country sound of The Secret Sisters, who have opened for Paul Simon and count T Bone Burnett and Jack White amongst their fans.

“When envisioning a holiday concert to celebrate KCRW, I wanted to bring it back to basics and create an event that resonated with the spirit of the season. It’s simply a stellar lineup of artists we’re really excited about, capturing an intimacy to stir the soul,“ said KCRW Music Director and Host of Morning Becomes Eclectic Jason Bentley.

Tickets go on sale to KCRW members first on Tuesday, October 4 at 10am on KCRW.com. Tickets become available to the general public beginning Tuesday, October 11 at 10am. Ticket prices vary based on seating, from $55 to $200. It’s an all ages show.

Bob Dylan, Wilco, Brett Dennen and others are featured on the soundtrack of the fall – “Parenthood” – set to rock into online retailers on Aug. 31 (to coincide with season one’s DVD release on Universal Studios Home Entertainment) and in stores on Oct. 5 by Arrival Records/Scion Music Group (distributed by Fontana Distribution a subsidiary of Universal Music Group).

The album features 12 tracks all of which are featured or will be featured on the show, including the much talked about theme song – Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young. ” The physical CD also includes an exclusive version of that song sung by the iconic John Doe and rising star Lucy Schwartz as well as Schwartz’s “When We Were Young,” which is the international theme song for the show.

The talented artists who contributed to the soundtrack include: Bob Dylan, Brett Dennen, Amos Lee, The Avett Brothers, Corrine Bailey Rae, The Eels, Josh Ritter, Lucy Schwartz, The Swell Season, Wilco, Ray LaMontagne and John Doe & Lucy Schwartz. Liza Richardson is the show’s music supervisor and soundtrack co-producer and music supervisor for the series along with Jonathan Platt, Jonathan Miller and Jonathan McHugh. The soundtrack is licensed through NBC Universal television, DVD, music and consumer products group.

Commenting on the album, Liza Richardson says: “Working on “Parenthood” is a music supervisor’s dream. I’m working with extremely creative pros. These are people who love music and understand how to put the right song in the right scene and effectively help tell a story. The editors, the writers, the execs all make a huge contribution to the way the show sounds.”

Adds Jason Katims: “I am tremendously proud of the caliber of artists who’ve lent their voices to “Parenthood,” and to this amazing soundtrack.”

Season two of “Parenthood” premiered on NBC on Tues., Sept. 14. The show, which was number one in its time slot last season, is produced by Oscar-winning producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (“A Beautiful Mind,” “Frost”/”Nixon”) and show runner Jason Katims (“Friday Night Lights”). A comedic yet heartfelt and thought-provoking series, “Parenthood” follows four grown siblings of the far-from-perfect Braverman clan as they try to balance kids and careers, dreams and commitments and romance…or a total lack thereof.

Bay-Area native Brett Dennen has partnered with Livestream to broadcast an exclusive New Year’s Eve performance at the Fox Theater in Oakland presented by Life is good and Another Planet Entertainment. “Starting December 31st at 8:30PM PST, fans can tune in to Brett’s Facebook page, website, or Livestream to view the broadcast.” Joining Brett are Brushfire Recording artist and neighbors ALO, plus several local musicians at a party destined to be the Bay-Area kick-off to 2010.

To kickoff this special New Years Eve performance, Brett will also interact with his fans on Livestream, with a special Q+A session from his rehearsals on December 30th at 3PM PST. The performance at the newly renovated theater marks Brett’s first local headline since selling out two nights at the legendary Fillmore. He also recently engaged thousands at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park and supported Jason Mraz for a sold out show at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre.

This show completes a highly successful year for Brett supporting his most recent release Hope For The Hopeless, which appropriately begins with Bay-Area homage “San Francisco”. Closing the year with a broadcast presented by Life is good makes perfect sense. Brett’s 54-city winter-spring tour was featured Life is good as a partner, and both Brett and ALO played for tens of thousands at Life is good Festivals in Boston, St. Louis and San Francisco in the summer and fall. Their vocal support for the Life is good Kids Foundation throughout the year helped this nonprofit raise over $900,000 in 2009 for children facing life-threatening conditions.

With Livestream as the exclusive streaming provider, the player for the webcast can be embedded anywhere. Integration with Facebook and Twitter allows viewers to engage in an online conversation with other fans and the band. The performance will also be encoded for the iPhone, making the broadcast accessible to over a million iPhone users with a 3G wireless connection at http://iphone.livestream.com/brettdennenalolive.
